Chapter 62: Which Mystic Sect Is The Strongest
Xuan Xia took out her mobile phone to verify, pulling up the photo that Yang Wanxiu had taken yesterday.
The patterns and degree of wear on the two bells seemed identical, but since they weren’t the same one, there would be differences.
The most obvious differences were the knot where the bell connected to the red cord, the degree of wear, and the tassel below the bell.
Xuan Xia thought to herself, if this still wasn’t ghostly, she’d change her surname to match the book cafe boss!
She studied it carefully for a while longer and also took a photo of the replacement new bell.
Just as she straightened up, two young women squeezed over beside her.
The one squeezed next to her said, “Zhou Shiqing recorded the program here at this book cafe last night. I wonder if he wrote a wish card.”
The one standing outside said, “We’re only coming now. Even if he really wrote one, it’s probably been taken already.”
“Come on, let’s take a look.”
They were actually Zhou Shiqing’s fans.
Xuan Xia couldn’t help glancing at the two, wanting very much to advise them not to waste their effort, since Zhou Shiqing hadn’t written a wish card last night.
The two didn’t notice Xuan Xia standing beside them. The one outside casually checked two rows and said, “I think with Zhou Shiqing’s personality, he wouldn’t write one.”
The other said, “But that drama queen might want to write one. Zhou Shiqing is working, so he can’t refuse, right? After all, they’re playing a couple now.”
Xuan Xia: ???
Who are they calling a drama queen???
Xuan Xia speechlessly gave the one beside her an extra glance.
The other noticed Xuan Xia’s line of sight, turned her head to look at Xuan Xia twice, then turned back to continue searching for wish cards, clearly not recognizing her at all.
Xuan Xia reflected on herself: it was because she wasn’t famous, couldn’t blame others.
Famous people, even if bundled up tightly, could be recognized from just an inch of exposed skin.
Whereas someone like her who wasn’t famous could become another person with just a mask and a pair of framed glasses.
Xuan Xia adjusted the framed glasses on her nose bridge, not disturbing the two as they continued searching for their idol in the vast sea of cards, and turned to go to the bar counter.
Just after she left, the one who had made eye contact with Xuan Xia quietly said to her companion, “Hey, that one, doesn’t she look like that drama queen?”
The companion turned to look, “Really? You sure? I can’t tell.”
“Not sure, she’s wearing a mask, how could I recognize her.” That person said, “But just from one glance, you can tell she’s a beauty.”
The companion turned back to look at her, originally wanting to say something, but on second thought, said nothing.
That Xuan Xia really was good-looking, her beauty was undeniable.
……
The female server inside the bar counter saw Xuan Xia heading straight over and smiled, saying “Welcome,” thinking she was there to order a drink, her hand already poised to input the order.
But Xuan Xia said, “Excuse me, is your boss in?”
The female server was stunned for a moment, quickly put down her hand, kept her smile and said, “Boss isn’t in.”
“Then when will the boss be in?” Xuan Xia asked again.
The female server’s smile didn’t change, “Our boss doesn’t come to the store unless there’s something, I don’t know either.”
As for why Xuan Xia wanted to find the boss, the female server wasn’t curious at all and didn’t ask a single word.
Xuan Xia stared into the other’s eyes for a few seconds and quickly understood that the female server had been tipped off.
And the one who tipped her off was probably the boss here.
Xuan Xia curved her eyes, counting it as a smile, and backed away from the bar counter.
The female server thought she was leaving and quietly breathed a sigh of relief, but then saw her come back, immediately tensing up.
Xuan Xia walked back with curved eyes, “Excuse me, one more question, what’s your boss’s name?”
The female server: “Ah…”
“This should be okay to say, right?”
The female server, who was thinking the exact same thing, gave an awkward smile, was silent for a moment, and said, “Our boss’s surname is Ren, Ren Yaokun.”
“Okay, thanks.”
After asking this question, Xuan Xia really left the book cafe.
Once out of the book cafe, she began editing a message, sending the book cafe, the bell, and the boss’s name, along with the photos, all to Daoist Master Qin.
At this time, the Daoist Temple was still in business operations. Xuan Xia wasn’t in a hurry to wait for Daoist Master Qin’s reply and put away her mobile phone to return to the hotel.
When Daoist Master Qin replied, Xuan Xia had just gotten ready for dinner.
Dinner was a meal that Yang Wanxiu had specially ordered for her. Yang Wanxiu said that next week she was entering an ancient costume film crew, so she had to start consciously maintaining her figure now.
Ancient costume dramas definitely required actors to be slim; only slim could wear the ethereal ancient costumes well and look pretty on camera.
A basic quality of an actor was to slim down when it was time to slim down.
Xuan Xia didn’t want her first time acting in a TV series to fail on image requirements, so she had no complaints about the clear soup and watery meal.
She stuffed a mouthful of broccoli while opening her mobile phone to check the message.
“Daoist Master Qin: Got it. No impression of the name Ren Yaokun, but there is indeed someone surnamed Ren in the Mystic Sect with the generational character ‘Yao’.”
Xuan Xia’s chewing paused. So the book cafe boss really was from the Mystic Sect.
At this moment, Daoist Master Qin sent another message.
Xuan Xia looked down.
“Daoist Master Qin: Be careful, don’t act alone. I’ll go check, wait for my message.”
Staring at this message, Xuan Xia chewed the food in her mouth, swallowed it, then replied: “Okay, then thank you, Daoist Master Qin.”
She originally wanted to ask one more thing, how long it would take him this time, but after thinking, she decided not to ask.
……
But facts proved that this time Daoist Master Qin said he’d check, and again there was no feedback at all.
Fortunately, this time Xuan Xia didn’t have to foolishly pin her hopes on Daoist Master Qin alone.
Besides using online search to fish in the sea for information, she had a second person she could ask about Mystic Sect matters.
That person was Qu Xingxuan.
***
After finishing her final exam, the first thing Xuan Xia did was connect emotions with Qu Xingxuan.
Qu Xingxuan, upon learning that Xuan Xia had finished her exams and started summer vacation, was extremely envious.
He, a second year high school student, no longer had a complete summer vacation; his only current hope was to go out wild for a few days after exams.
After chatting idly with him for a few sentences, Xuan Xia got to the point.
“Give me a rundown on the Mystic Sect.”
“Qu Xingxuan: Rundown on the Mystic Sect? What’s there to rundown.”
Xuan Xia said, “Curious. Tell me, which family is the strongest in the Mystic Sect now?”
Qu Xingxuan saw the question, organized his words for a long time before sending a message to Xuan Xia.
“Qu Xingxuan: Which is strongest? Official answer or unofficial?”
Xuan Xia: “Hm? Why not both?”
“Qu Xingxuan: Official answer, of course Heavenly Master Mansion Zhang Family is the strongest! They’re certified heritage by all walks of society.”
Xuan Xia: “…” No issue.
“Qu Xingxuan: Unofficial answer, hard to say. These past few decades should be Cui Family. They control discourse power tightly, extremely dominant. Before Cui Family it was Zhu Family, unfortunately declined this generation, no capable people, but foundation is there, elders can hold on a few more years.”
“Qu Xingxuan: Also Chen Family and Yun Family.”
No Ren Family…
