Chapter 14: No Beating Passengers Without Cause
“Then there are various long-shelf-life biscuits, ham, instant noodles, and other food, each…”
“Directly calculate how many days six people can eat.” Su Huan said flatly.
“Excluding canned food and rice, flour, oil, and grains, with two meals a day, it can last about seven months.”
“What about the purified water reserve?”
“120 cases of bottled water with 24 bottles per case, 23 barrels of barreled water, and 842 bottles of various beverages.” Yu Yue said in detail.
Su Huan calculated silently in his heart that just with these supplies, it was enough for the six-person team to live colorfully in the apocalypse.
Moreover, a large amount of non-staple food was not included in the reserves, scattered in the first few carriages.
But these supplies were only for transition.
No one knew how many years the apocalypse would last; relying solely on stored food would definitely deplete the reserves, supplies would become harder to find in the future, and building carriage farms was essential.
At that time, reasonably allocate the various carriages to make resources cycle, and achieving self-sufficiency with the armored train was the way to go.
“Dong dong- dong!”
A rhythmic knocking sound came from the carriage.
Several people simultaneously turned their gazes to Su Huan.
“You all sort things out here first, remember to lock the No. 7 carriage door, forget it, just fuse it into one piece, and open it when needed.”
After Su Huan instructed them, he walked toward the No. 5 carriage.
Several passengers were standing there outside the window, sweating profusely, looking around vigilantly.
Su Huan activated general energy perception, and after sensing no things above his head or under his feet, he pulled open the window.
Hot wind hit his face.
He said calmly, “What’s the matter?”
A man said, “We found steel plates, but there are a lot of them, surrounded by zombies, and without a vehicle, we can’t bring them back.”
Su Huan frowned; indeed, they needed to prepare some tools. This time it was steel plates, next time it might be a small water purifier; relying on people to carry was indeed unreliable.
He needed to think of a way later.
But for now…
Su Huan said coldly, “Finding a vehicle is your business. I don’t care what method you use; I just want the steel plates. If you can’t bring back the steel plates, no one gets on the train.”
He slammed the car window down.
The few people had no choice but to return again to figure out how to transport the steel plates.
Turning back, the storage room was almost sorted; various metal canned food was neatly placed on the black iron racks, like walls, exuding a heavy sense of satisfaction.
Several people looked at him, “What happened?”
Su Huan rubbed his chin, “Perhaps we should make a crane.”
Yu Jing agreed, “It can be installed on the carriage to hoist the steel plates up; otherwise, it’s hard to lift the steel plates to the roof by manpower.”
Liang Kuan, “Are we setting out to find one now?”
Su Huan was stunned, “Set out? What set out?”
Su Huan sighed, “Wasn’t the lesson from that blood hound yesterday enough for you? It’s already so dangerous inside the train; anything could happen outside. Use your brain when making decisions; this is the apocalypse!”
“Yu Jing, go to my room and get a piece of paper, write on it that whoever brings a crane gets three months of free train ticket treatment.”
“Alright, while the people haven’t returned yet, hurry and build the racks in the other carriages.”
Su Huan ignored them and continued working in the No. 5 carriage.
The apocalypse was getting more and more dangerous.
Based on his survival experience from his previous life, the best way to live was to hunker down.
No matter how fast humans evolved, could they be faster than beasts?
Anyway, he had made up his mind: before he evolved to the point where he could roam the apocalypse freely, he wouldn’t go out if he could avoid it. Even if all the passengers behind died, he didn’t want to risk himself for such a small matter as scavenging supplies.
Several people continued working; with the experience from the No. 6 carriage, the later ones went faster.
Moreover, the other carriages didn’t need to be completely dismantled.
Just transform partial areas was enough.
Although Su Huan occupied an entire carriage, the No. 4 carriage had a total of eight soft sleepers; the Yu Jing mother and daughter used one room, and there was plenty of space for the others.
The No. 5 carriage was previously piled with miscellaneous items; now cleared out, it could be converted into a medical carriage.
Before they finished busying, it was already afternoon, and the passengers had started returning one after another.
Su Huan began his pleasant ticket collection time again.
“Tickets.”
A cart of steel plates was pushed in front of the train.
Su Huan looked up; the man in front of him looked as rough as his voice, with a young man standing beside him who had large tattoos on his face, his gaze frivolous, always trying to peek into the carriage behind him.
He had a deep impression of this group; the big family that stole his supplies this morning had left with them.
Now it seemed…
Su Huan glanced sideways, the corners of his mouth couldn’t help but curve up; the lively big family was left with only the old woman’s youngest son, who no longer had his hands in his pockets, standing obsequiously at the back, squeezed in the middle by several old passengers.
After watching the spectacle, his gaze returned to the steel plates.
“Eight steel plates, eight people, that’s correct, but two are newcomers; newcomers need two plates.”
Su Huan pointed at the people behind and said flatly.
The tattooed youth sneered, “Correct, it’s seven people; that one doesn’t count. The extra steel plate is for his wife.”
The kid behind immediately shouted shrilly upon hearing this, “Dog Brother, you said if I got my dad to lure away the zombies, you’d give me a spot. What do you mean now…”
“Bang.”
The passenger standing next to him hit him hard.
The dull thud of flesh hitting flesh made Su Huan’s ears feel hot; he said with a straight face, “No unprovoked beating of passengers, okay.”
The tattooed youth turned his head, grinning, “Didn’t I give the spot to your wife? You, a big man, still want to compete with your wife? Just go find two more steel plates yourself; there’s plenty in that steel factory.”
The beaten kid was held tightly by several people, his mouth covered, his eyes red with anger.
The rough man frowned and scolded, “Little Ghost, Dog Brother is talking to you.”
The tattooed youth quickly turned back, pretending to slap his own mouth, took out a cigarette pack from his pocket, and offered it to Su Huan, “Brother Su, we’re uneducated and ignorant; don’t hold it against me.”
Su Huan looked playfully at the two cigarettes in his hand, then after a moment extended two fingers, directly gripping the other’s wrist, converting general energy into electric current output.
In an instant, the youth called Little Ghost’s complexion changed drastically, his whole body muscles stiffened, clothes crackling.
Dog Brother and the others’ faces changed greatly, but they didn’t dare step forward.
And Su Huan just took the entire cigarette pack from his hand before letting go.
He said flatly that it was a small matter.
Little Ghost fell butt-first to the ground, looking at Su Huan as if he had seen a ghost, eyebrows singed, tongue-tied, unable to say a word for a long time.
Su Huan casually put the cigarettes into the cigarette pack, ticked off their names on the roster, “I don’t smoke, but I like collecting them. Next time remember to bring a whole carton. Alright, those who handed in train tickets can board.”
Dog Brother and the others didn’t dare say anything, hurriedly lifted Little Ghost, and slunk onto the train.
That woman glanced at her fallen husband, gritted her teeth, and followed onto the train.
