Armored Train in the Apocalypse – Chapter 16

Crane

Chapter 16: Crane

After speaking, he jumped down along the edge of the train roof.

“Pa”

Su Huan reached out to catch her soles, supported her calves, and smoothly pulled her into his arms.

Shaking his sore and numb wrist, Su Huan asked, “How was the penetration test up there?”

“No problem, even more perfect than welding.”

Yu Jing unscrewed the dye penetrant can, and the purplish-red liquid flowed along the weld seam on the side of the carriage.

Ten minutes later, the developer was sprayed on, with no crack indications.

Su Huan nodded; after all, it was metal control, and the craftsmanship was impeccable.

By now, it was approaching dusk, with the sun about to set.

The most complex front ramming horn was complete, the first five carriages including the front had 1.2cm armor welded, and machine gun positions were reserved on the roof.

Steel plates on both sides of carriages 6 to 9 were welded, most windows were sealed, with only two left on each side for basic lighting.

This way, welding didn’t require Xiao Ba to specially expend ability to cut; whole steel plates could be directly pieced up.

Heavy footsteps came from the carriage, Liang Kuan carrying a corpse wrapped in a plastic bag walked out from inside the carriage, his light gray short sleeve soaked with sweat on the chest.

Jumping down from the carriage, he walked to a spot farther from the front and tossed it.

By now, there were already over a dozen black bags piled there.

“How many is this?” Su Huan asked when he returned.

Liang Kuan scratched his head, “Should be twelve.”

Su Huan nodded, “Get on the train first.”

The three got on the carriage from the sightseeing car position; although the air conditioner was at max, as soon as they entered, they smelled a strong fishy stench.

Mixed with the bursts of cool air from the air conditioner, they all felt like they had entered a morgue.

Su Huan, however, took a deep breath.

‘Familiar smell.’

The carpet on the carriage floor had long been removed, replaced with a large plastic sheet, most of which was empty, with remnants of meat fragments and bloodstains.

Only the middle one had a zombie lying there.

Various tools were placed on several black iron racks around: nail gun, electric drill, electric pickaxe, electric saw…

Just like a murderer’s dismemberment secret room.

Wan Xing moved a small chair to sit beside the zombie, closing her eyes to concentrate on collecting general energy crystals.

After a long time, Wan Xing slowly opened her eyes, just in time to see Su Huan entering, and placed eleven pinky fingernail-sized general energy crystals on the table, her voice slightly hoarse, “Total of twelve general energy crystals collected, energy insufficient, then I used one.”

“But after ten, no matter how sufficient my body’s energy was, the collection speed got slower and slower, and there was always an lingering sense of fatigue on my body.”

Su Huan took a few general energy crystals in hand and instructed, “That’s your mental power consumption reaching the limit, no need to push, a sleep will recover it.”

“You can rest a bit before continuing, but pay attention not to tire yourself to dizziness, stop when it feels about right.”

Wan Xing nodded, then said, “I discovered a pattern: the longer the zombie has been dead, the more general energy lost, the smaller the condensed crystals, but I evened out the ones in your hand.”

Su Huan toyed with the transparent crystal in his hand, looked closely, and didn’t notice any difference.

In his previous life, he really hadn’t noticed this.

It was probably that collectors have a special way to gauge energy.

“Right, no more zombies.” Liang Kuan suddenly said from the side.

“Heh, there’s a pile in the rear carriages.” Su Huan tugged the corner of his mouth.

The reason these zombies weren’t cleared was to keep them as evolution materials.

Otherwise, they’d have to send people to catch them when needed, adding unnecessary trouble.

Leaving Yu Jing to help Yu Yue cook, Su Huan took Liang Kuan off the carriage; Qi Xiao Ba was still outside cooperating with workers welding steel plates.

Just as they got off, they saw Wang He walking over.

Su Huan raised an eyebrow and asked, “What’s up?”

Wang He looked troubled, “It’s that carriage 10, how did it get so many zombies, the brothers don’t dare to work.”

By now, the sunset had fully sunk below the horizon; though there was still light between heaven and earth, it already had the appearance of falling into night.

Su Huan pondered for a moment and said, “That’s it for today, later you all go into carriage 7, I’ll have someone send food over later, clean up things before boarding, lift all steel plates up, not a piece left.”

Hearing the big boss speak, Wang He also breathed a sigh of relief.

Thinking he could eat soon after starving for several days, he couldn’t help swallowing saliva, a look of joy on his face.

He quickly went to call the workers to board.

Su Huan followed along; Qi Xiao Ba sat in the electric wheelchair, the faint night color covering the slight fatigue on the youth’s face.

Su Huan handed over a general energy crystal, “Energy consumption too high?”

Qi Xiao Ba smiled, took the general energy crystal and held it in hand, “It’s okay, just a bit sunburned.”

Su Huan chuckled speechlessly, “My oversight, I’ll get you a parasol tomorrow.”

Liang Kuan silently watched the two joking; even a fool could see Su Huan’s attitude toward Qi Xiao Ba was special.

It wasn’t just importance in value.

But more like… a feeling of friends.

Liang Kuan was very puzzled why he had such thoughts.

Could a guy as cold and inhumane as Su Huan have friendship?

Shaking his head, Liang Kuan shook off these messy thoughts and helped lift Qi Xiao Ba onto the train.

……

The construction team also boarded from behind, along with some passengers returning one after another.

Although transporting steel plates amid zombies was difficult, under Su Huan’s tempering, they already had the determination to complete the task.

Su Huan stood by the window watching.

Until night fell, he finally saw a dark shadow hurrying toward the train; there was a pillar in front of the front, like an armored sea beast extending steel tentacles.

When it got close, the black shadow revealed its form, impressively a red forklift.

And in front of the forklift was a hexagonal multi-section telescopic crane.

When the vehicle drove up close, a young man in a tank top jumped down from the driver’s cabin.

Left leg slightly bent, weight on the right foot.

This strange landing posture had only two situations: one relaxed state, or left leg injured unable to bear weight.

“I brought back the crane, does the three-month free train ticket still count?”

The young man asked in a deep voice.

Su Huan looked at him meaningfully, a smile on his lips, “Of course, this train is very pleased to serve you in the coming days, Mister Gao Zhe.”

Gao Zhe ignored Su Huan and boarded by himself.

Su Huan’s gaze stayed on him until he disappeared into the carriage.

Then he turned and shouted, “Liang Kuan, throw down two steel plates, drive the forklift up, and have Xiao Ba help guide it, this is a big guy.”

From the room behind, Liang Kuan responded and strode out.

A creaking sound came from behind; Su Huan subconsciously glanced over, Yu Yue was pushing a dining car from the train toward carriage 7.

Boxed meals freshly made were piled on top.
