Chapter 28: Setbacks
Yu Yue nodded subtly. “After absorbing that General Energy Crystal yesterday, I slept, and this morning I became an Evolver. My core ability is ‘Sonic Affinity’, which lets me hear many strange sounds.”
“It’s actually a Manipulator.” Su Huan was genuinely surprised.
He had originally thought that the first to evolve would be Liang Kuan or Yu Jing, but unexpectedly, timid Aunt Yu had taken the lead in evolution.
Su Huan walked around the table and chairs to Yu Yue’s side and looked at her ears.
After becoming an Evolver, there would be more or less some changes to the body.
Like the iron color in Qi Xiao Ba’s eyes, the restrained light in Wan Xing’s eyes.
Su Huan’s was even more obvious, either red light or Lightning.
Yu Yue’s ears had become more elongated, lifted upward overall, with clear soft cartilage outlines. Although not as exaggerated as elf ears, they still made people feel very refined.
Thanks to this evolution, the fine wrinkles at the corners of her eyes had completely disappeared, and her skin had become fairer by a degree.
Although these were all minor adjustments brought by evolution, combined they made her look more than ten years younger.
As if sensing Su Huan’s gaze, Yu Yue unnaturally sorted her hair, her ear tips turning red.
“The sound range normal human ears can hear is 20-20000Hz, so you can hear many sounds we can’t, but what these sounds mean, you have to observe yourself.”
“After all, we can’t hear them.” Su Huan explained while squinting his eyes and looking Yu Yue up and down.
Being able to hear special sound waves was just her supplementary ability; her main ability should be to control sound waves.
Otherwise, this type wouldn’t be called a Manipulator.
“Anything else?”
“I seem to be able to gather some of the sounds I hear, and I can also emit some high-pitched and low-frequency sounds myself.”
Su Huan picked up the glass piece on the table, looked again at Aunt Yu’s neck which had become a bit whiter and tenderer, and said with slight surprise.
“Did you do this?”
In his previous life, he had encountered someone who could hear various sound waves, but hearing and using them were still quite different.
“Mm…”
Fine fuzz on Yu Yue’s ears stood up, her pair of thin arched eyebrows furrowed, her fingers twisting together like a child’s.
Facing Su Huan’s gaze, she was always very nervous.
She secretly glanced at her daughter sitting beside her, and her emotions eased somewhat.
Su Huan’s gaze was full of curiosity. “It seems there are quite a few offensive aspects. What level can it reach?”
“Currently the attack power is very weak, at most it can make someone have tinnitus for a moment.”
“Very good.”
Su Huan said satisfied.
A complete team might not be many strong people gathered together, but a group of people with various skills cooperating with each other.
Fire Suppression, Range control, remote Support, perception tracking…
Forming a reasonable squad through different specialties.
It was just that when Su Huan selected people back then, he prioritized the Armored Train, with good control as secondary.
Pairing evolutionary abilities with this was like opening blind boxes, and he hadn’t expected Yu Yue and the others to have particularly suitable abilities.
He hadn’t expected to draw an operator of sound waves, which was already a top draw.
“Really?”
Yu Yue hadn’t expected to hear the words ‘very good’ from the demanding Su Huan. She lifted her rounded chin and mustered courage to ask, “Then what can I do?”
Su Huan looked at Yu Yue’s soft lips and fell into thought.
High frequency, Vibration, perhaps…
“Can be a Sniper?”
“Ah, me?”
Yu Yue’s eyebrows unknitted, her hands happily placed behind her back.
Suddenly remembering her daughter and others were there, she quietly restrained her body’s small movements.
Seeing her own mother become as happy as a little girl after just a couple of compliments, Yu Jing sighed inwardly and asked, “Is it because sound wave abilities are more suitable for remote exertion?”
Su Huan turned his head and said seriously, “Yes, if she can control sound waves, she can easily obtain battlefield information, like battlefield terrain, enemy positions and such. Paired with a Sniper Rifle, she would be an important combat force for the team.”
Yu Jing thought about her mom’s personality; if made to charge into battle with a knife, she would definitely be scared and hide behind her.
Being a remote Sniper was pretty good too.
Important and safe.
“Huh?”
Yu Yue suddenly let out a light exclamation.
The few people looked at her puzzled.
“Mom, what’s wrong?”
Yu Jing came to her mother’s side and held her hand.
Yu Yue tilted her head slightly and said uncertainly, “I heard two explosions, the sound similar to this morning’s.”
Su Huan and Yu Jing exchanged a glance, and he raised an eyebrow to ask, “Which direction.”
Yu Yue stretched out her finger, pointing outside to the left side Carriage.
Su Huan’s gaze instantly turned cold.
That was exactly the direction of the Water Plant; Yu Yue hadn’t known about that before.
Su Huan narrowed his eyes. “Xiao Ba, go to the Driver’s Cabin, have Liang Kuan accelerate, pay attention to the road conditions. Wan Xing, you go to the storage Carriage. Yu Jing, you stay here; tell me if your mom hears anything.”
After speaking, Su Huan headed to the No. 2 Sightseeing Carriage.
Following the stairs to the second floor, he looked outside the window.
Because it was now morning, the water mist outside the window had dissipated quite a bit. Although still overcast, he could see things in the Distance clearly.
Most on both sides of the Railway Track were low buildings under six stories, enclosed by metal fences.
There weren’t many cars on the roads; they looked like they had been cleared by someone.
There were also quite a few punctured Corpse Pupa, which were probably done by those from Prosperity Property Management.
The glass was covered in water mist, somewhat blurry. Su Huan simply went directly from the rear Car Door to the No. 3 Carriage.
The hot, humid, and sultry air surged in, quickly wetting his gray T-shirt, sticking wetly to his body.
Standing here, he could just see the water tower under the gloomy sky in the Distance.
The Train under his feet was still moving. After ten minutes, at 10:22, it finally stopped, and the water tower shifted from the left side of Su Huan’s view to directly ahead.
About one kilometer or so.
It had been 42 minutes since Gao Zhe took four Workers and two bomb-carrying confidants to set off.
It wasn’t that he didn’t want to send his own people.
Liang Kuan was the driver and couldn’t easily get off. Qi Xiao Ba was strategic talent, and with poor mobility, he couldn’t get off even more.
As for Yu Jing, Wan Xing and the like, no need to mention.
Sending them would be like steamed buns beating a dog.
Not to mention there were certain risks, even without risks there would be unexpected complications.
When the Apocalypse tears away civilization’s constraints, women are also an important resource.
So when Gao Zhe repeatedly violated the Rules, Su Huan hadn’t dealt a fatal blow to him.
Because he needed such a powerful enforcer who kept his distance.
Suddenly, a staggering figure running back to the Train reflected in Su Huan’s pupils.
Footsteps also came from behind; Liang Kuan dragged Hu An up.
Su Huan put his arm around Hu An’s Shoulder, pointed at the distant figure, and asked with a faint smile, “What kind of news do you think he brought back?”
Hu An looked at the work uniform on that person, his heart sinking as he swallowed saliva.
“Boss Su, there might be some misunderstanding here…”
That person saw Su Huan on the Train and ran faster, not minding the mud spots on his legs.
Arriving under the Train, he panted heavily and shouted, “Boss Su, they tore up the ticket!”
