Chapter 44: River Crab Tofu Clay Pot
Liang Kuan stopped the train and first carried the two night demons from the carriage down.
After evolution, his strength had increased by a large margin again; picking up these skinny things one in each hand was no problem at all.
Dragging up the headless night demon, he could see a large scorched black mark on its iron gray skin.
No need to think; it must have been struck by Su Huan’s high-voltage electricity.
But when he pulled up the night demon he had slapped to death, unexpectedly he also saw a scorched black mark on it.
Liang Kuan was silent for a moment, then carried the two corpses out.
He happened to see passengers coming down one by one from the rear carriage, while Su Huan stood there holding the roster with a smile, like the King of Hell calling roll.
When passing by, he was called by name, and Liang Kuan couldn’t help but tense his skin.
Su Huan lifted his eyelids slightly, “Later, try to collect those corpses from the front too, let Wan Xing collect them; if there are really too many, discard them according to importance and value.”
“Understood.”
Watching Liang Kuan carry the two night demon corpses onto the train, Su Huan continued checking against the roster.
Now everyone in the team had become evolvers, so they could share some of his burden; at the very least, when he wasn’t around, this group could hold the train.
Glancing at the scorching sunlight, just standing there for over ten minutes had already made his back hurt from the heat.
The passengers in front of him looked listless one by one, but compared to those refugees he had seen on the overpass, they were already much better off.
Su Huan kept calculating the food in their hands, adjusting the ticket price to prevent some people from losing the motivation to search for supplies, leading to eating through their reserves.
The food they had left was limited, and now many people were already starving.
There was still a lot to do today; letting them out quickly to find food was the proper thing.
Su Huan fanned the roster, stirring up waves of heat, “Same old rules: three portions of supplies, special train ticket, new passenger.”
Everyone stirred a bit; a nearby scarface spoke up and asked, “Bringing one new passenger means no need to hand over supplies?”
Su Huan smiled faintly, “Yes, as long as you bring one new passenger, it’s half a portion of supplies; two passengers get a free ticket. Whoever can bring back steel plate also gets a free ticket.”
“But—”
Everyone heard the chill in Su Huan’s words, their complexions tensing slightly as they perked up to listen.
“I only want passengers between sixteen and fifty years old.”
“Wait a bit, I’ll open a gap in the side fence for you; get ready to set off.”
After Su Huan finished speaking, he quickly got back on the carriage.
Just now, while providing cover for Liang Kuan, his energy consumption had bottomed out, and he had even used some general energy crystals as supplement.
Otherwise, he wouldn’t be drenched in sweat from the sun.
In a bit, he still had to personally go out to search for the fire truck; he needed to replenish his energy as soon as possible.
It wasn’t that he didn’t want to send someone, but currently he really lacked manpower.
As for the passengers in the back…
If that group of troublemakers got guns, would they choose to shoot zombies first or him first?
He still had to go himself.
Before reaching the dining car, Su Huan heard a faint hum.
“Life’s scenery wanders by; whenever I’m lonely and look back, your love is always waiting for me not far away…” (voiceover)
It carried a relaxed, soft moistness, like the hot wind wandering outside the train, hitting his body, swirling, then flowing onward.
That sound flew freely and soothingly into the distance, leaving him stunned in place from the impact.
But she seemed to have noticed something and stopped abruptly at the climax.
A rich fresh fragrance wafted from the carriage, like the oily salted duck egg yolk.
Su Huan stepped into the dining car; on the dining table in the center was a plate with something heavy pressing it down. Yu Yue, wearing an apron and standing behind the cabinet, had changed her ginger-yellow shirt to a white T-shirt, with beige ice silk wide-leg pants on her lower body.
She looked cozy and soft.
On the induction cooker, a large clay pot was still boiling; the fresh fragrance was coming from inside it.
When Su Huan walked in, Yu Yue timely set down what was in her hands, took an empty cup filled with ice cubes from the refrigerator, poured in half a bottle of cola, and handed it to him.
Su Huan took it and sipped, “Where did you get the clay pot from?”
He knew very well what was in the kitchen.
“Found it in the luggage carriage, a brand new pot that hasn’t been used; I was thinking of making river crab stewed tofu tonight.”
Yu Yue placed her hands in front of her, her round legs pressed tightly together without a gap, prim and proper, like a maid answering the master’s question.
“Tofu?”
Su Huan glanced at the thing pressed in the basin on the table, his gaze darkening slightly; the little aunt knew quite a few things.
“It’s brine tofu, made this morning; it will be just right to eat tonight.”
“Clothes too?”
“Mm.”
“Any for me?”
Looking at the young man with slender, sharp brows and eyes in front of her, a flash of stunned surprise passed through Yu Yue’s almond eyes.
This person was sometimes coldly cruel like a demon, sometimes like a child wanting candy.
The switch was extremely smooth, making him hard to fathom.
“Collected some; they’re in my room.” As Yu Yue spoke, she secretly lifted her eyelids to observe Su Huan’s expression.
Su Huan’s complexion cooled slightly, “If I don’t ask, you weren’t planning to give them to me, huh?”
“N-no, I’ll deliver them to your room after I finish cooking.”
Yu Yue said weakly.
Daily intimidation 1/1
Seeing her timid appearance, Su Huan felt much more at ease in his heart, gave a light hum, sat on the orange cat sofa with the iced cola, and began silently absorbing general energy crystals to recover energy.
After a while, Su Huan felt something off, frowned, and opened his eyes.
He suspiciously looked toward the woman busy over there.
There was clearly a kitchen knife and cutting board, so why was there not a single sound?
And the bubbling of the boiling clay pot, the humming of the air conditioner—these sounds full of life that reassured him—why had they all vanished?
Soon, Yu Yue was stared at by his chilling gaze until her hands and feet stiffened, and she slowly turned around with a placating smile, “I was afraid the cooking sounds would disturb you…”
Su Huan’s face twitched, “Don’t shield my perception anymore!”
With silence all around, how could he dare close his eyes?
“Mm…”
In an instant, various messy sounds returned, and Su Huan finally breathed a sigh of relief; without these sounds, he lost his sense of position in the space.
This was a rather terrifying thing.
Fortunately, Yu Yue didn’t pull any more tricks afterward.
An hour later, feeling the abundant energy in his body, Su Huan opened his eyes again.
The noonday sun was blindingly white; looking out through the squares cut by the explosion-proof net, on the reflective railway track, Liang Kuan was slowly reversing the hydrogen-powered train.
A group of workers were carrying pipes and metal steel plates.
Each one hot like a steamed shrimp, red and glossy, sweat flying.
He stood up, stretched lazily, drank down the melted ice water in the cup, and walked toward the outside of the train.
