Chapter 5: Born To The North
He climbed onto the dining car, luxuriously washed his hands again, Su Huan pulled out a bottle of mineral water, chugged a big gulp, then pulled out two more bottles and tossed them to Liang Kuan and Yu Jing.
“Drink some water, rest for a bit first.”
The two drank water and slowly recovered their strength on the side.
Su Huan slumped on the sofa, drenched in sweat, “Liang Kuan, go turn on the dining car air conditioner, no need for the other carriages.”
After a few minutes, cool air blew out from the air conditioner.
Feeling the refreshing sensation of his pores opening all over his body, Su Huan lazily looked out the window.
Although the explosion-proof net cut the scenery outside the window into small squares, his mood improved instead.
“Ask whatever you want to ask, while I’m in a good mood now.”
Yu Jing considered for a moment and asked, “I want to know what exactly happened to the world.”
Su Huan slightly raised his eyelids, she had really hit the nail on the head.
Indeed quite smart.
“Regarding the apocalypse, I don’t know much either, I’ll just tell you casually.”
“Eight days ago, an unknown energy appeared, let’s call it general energy for now, referring to those unknown energies. This energy fills every corner like air, blocking most of our known communication methods.”
Su Huan looked around left and right, picked up a small radio from the shelf behind him, turned it on and randomly tuned a few channels.
Only static noise.
Seeing Yu Jing’s eyes still eager to try, Su Huan directly tossed the radio to her, letting her debug it herself.
But no matter how she fiddled with it, she never received any meaningful sound.
“There are a few more radios in my room, if you don’t believe it, you can try them yourself later.” Su Huan said indifferently.
Yu Jing wasn’t doubting Su Huan, she just couldn’t accept this result in her heart.
She sighed inwardly and put down the radio.
“Then where are we going?”
“North, the temperature is lower there, there’s survival space, but I sense that this high temperature is just the beginning. Our only chance of survival is the train beneath our feet. If the apocalypse continues, this will be our only shelter we can rely on.”
After this speech, the two looked somber.
“So we need to prepare for long-term survival on the train. Not only do I need to collect supplies and upgrade armor, I also need to build purified water circulation system, air circulation system, carriage farm, defense system, attack system, complete medical supplies…”
Su Huan paused, “Of course, a building isn’t built in a day, and the train won’t be armed in a day. I’m saying this to hope you have the right mental expectation.”
There was another reason why the train had to keep going north that Su Huan didn’t say.
In his previous life, he always had a feeling of being driven, like a big hand driving them to keep evolving, keep going north. Once they stopped, they would face even more terrifying disasters.
As for what was at the farthest north, he had no idea.
But to live better, they had to prepare for the worst, like a hibernating bear that needed to eat fatter and stronger!
Pile the train’s armor thicker, firepower more ferocious.
What he needed to do wasn’t to escape death in crises, but to bite back more ferociously!
Su Huan narrowed his eyes, raised the mineral water bottle in his hand, “So, cheers to us surviving until now, and living even better in the future.”
The two cooperatively raised their hands a bit.
After a moment, seeing neither intended to speak, Su Huan raised an eyebrow, “I thought you would ask about evolvers.”
Liang Kuan seemed not to hear, Yu Jing said calmly, “You’ll naturally let us know when you need us to.”
Su Huan smiled. Right now, the most important thing was to arm the train; as for the evolver team, that could be postponed.
Retracting his thoughts, Su Huan focused his attention in his mind.
【”Energizer” lv1 general energy conversion, lv1 energy compression, lv1 general energy perception】
This wasn’t some system, but information engraved into the genes after evolution. No need to learn; the moment evolution completed, the evolver could drive and understand these abilities by instinct, just like “swallowing” or “raising a hand.”
Like a young lion swiping its claw, it might not know what result it could cause, but it wouldn’t forget the action of “swiping.”
If there was a bracelet produced by Deep Blue Data, one could see some basic data.
Like total energy in the body, recovery speed, etc., but in his previous life Su Huan played with it for two days and sold it.
He didn’t want his data to be secretly researched by a bunch of people. Although it was all fluctuating stuff, it was too dangerous in the apocalypse.
Moreover, losing accurate data didn’t affect anything.
Although evolvers couldn’t know their body data exactly, they could roughly sense their state, like how long a certain skill could last, how long general energy recovery would take.
Whether they could withstand a certain skill, they had an estimate.
And this sensation came faster and more directly than data.
……
“Need to prepare lunch?” The woman’s timid voice interrupted Su Huan’s contemplation.
Looking up, it was Yu Jing’s mother, standing there quietly and nervously.
Her personality was completely opposite to Yu Jing’s.
Yu Jing and the other had already gone to rest.
“What’s your name?”
“Yu Yue.”
“Make the perishable food in the refrigerator first.”
Su Huan indifferently gave the instruction, got up and walked toward the rear carriage.
Outside the fifth carriage stood a somewhat disheveled figure.
The black high-waisted jeans had quite a few abrasions, somehow got a loose black hoodie, laboriously carrying a black backpack, eyes full of flattery.
“Yo, isn’t this our little beauty? Collected six portions of supplies so quickly?”
For quality passengers, Su Huan was never stingy with his smile.
The girl’s complexion was slightly embarrassed, but seeing the smile on Su Huan’s face, hope rose again, and she probed, “Brother Su, the supplies I collected might not be enough, can you see if…”
Su Huan restrained his smile, frowned, “How much short?”
The girl took off the backpack, held it up with both hands and handed it over, face showing anxiety as she awaited Su Huan’s judgment.
Su Huan dumped everything out of the backpack.
Scattered but not insignificant.
“Two breads, four potatoes, ten heads of garlic, tentatively count as one day’s food. Oh hey, potato chips too, but this stuff doesn’t fill you up, four packs count as one meal, plus five packs of instant noodles, one pack of four sausages, all together that’s only two and a half portions of food…”
Su Huan counted, tone unkind.
The girl hurriedly pointed to a few other things, “There’s also that, didn’t you say tools can count as one train ticket?”
Su Huan playfully picked up a screwdriver, “You want to use it to replace one train ticket?”
The girl’s smile stiffened, but she still nodded stubbornly.
The smile on Su Huan’s face remained, but his eyes had turned completely cold, “You mean you want to trade a broken screwdriver for a precious train ticket that lets you sleep safely under apocalyptic crises? Are you stupid, or am I?!”
Yu Yue washing dishes nearby felt a chill, lowered her head and worked silently.
The girl’s face paled, thinking of being kicked off the train, facing those terrifying zombies in an unfamiliar place, her body trembled, big teardrops rolled down.
With a crying tone she pleaded, “But I really have no choice, Brother Su, as long as you let me on the train, I’ll do anything you say.”
