Chapter 53: Track Switch Escape
Under the dim night lights, passengers huddled together nervously, listening to the corpse roars outside growing louder layer by layer, and the impacts hitting heavier one after another. Some were already regretting why they boarded this train.
The smell of body odor, the stench of blood, and the rotten odor wafting in after the windows shattered mixed together, brewing a deep abyss of stench.
And those pairs of scarlet eyes were the evil ghosts come to drag them away.
“Buzz…”
The carriage suddenly brightened up.
A group of people walked over from the end, the young man at the front always wearing a faint smile on his face, like Dante walking through hell.
Calmly and indifferently gazing at everything around him.
“Snap!”
Su Huan snapped his fingers and smiled, “I’m the train conductor of the armored train. You can call me Su Huan, or shout ‘that Su guy’ in private. I don’t want to say too many things now. In three days, you’ll find that boarding the armored train is the best decision you’ve ever made in your life.”
“Rest well. The road ahead is still very long.”
Everyone looked at each other. Who dared to sleep in this situation? Who could even fall asleep?
After Su Huan finished speaking, he ignored the passengers’ reactions and walked straight ahead with a few people.
The old passengers quickly made way, and the new passengers, though not knowing what was so fearsome about this young man, still followed the crowd and stepped aside.
The three brothers followed behind, acting as guards.
When the few passed by, the carriage behind them once again fell into darkness.
“Old San, how many firearms and ammunition are there on the train in total?” Su Huan asked.
“Only two Enforcer-S1 tactical handguns, two Hummingbird-9 submachine guns, one Iron Curtain-A3 assault rifle, one Night Owl-X7 sniper rifle. Except for the sniper rifle which uses armor-piercing rounds, they’re all standard bullets. Didn’t count the exact number, total of three crates.”
Old San scratched his head and said.
“You know quite a bit. Retired soldier?”
“Bullshit, which man doesn’t know guns? Especially the enforcer team’s standard equipment—you see it all the time.”
Su Huan chuckled lightly, “Two submachine guns plus one rifle for you brothers. No problem handing the train’s defense over to you, right?”
Old San didn’t answer immediately. Instead, he pulled out a cigarette from his pocket, lit it, and held it in his mouth. By the time he walked past two carriages, the cigarette had burned right to the edge.
He exhaled all the smoke from his lungs in one breath, spat out the cigarette butt, “I want to eat river crab stewed tofu!”
“Good!”
……
Snow white light pillars piercing the night curtain split open the sticky darkness like swords of judgment. The armored train, wrapped in thunderous roars, crushed the zombies blocking the railway track.
The zombie horde surged from all directions like black asphalt, their jagged backs connecting into undulating corpse waves under the headlights, squeezed to both sides of the railway track by the ramming horn.
The steel dragon let out deafening whistle sounds amid the mist of steam and flesh and blood, like the angry roar of a giant beast.
The flashing red lights on the cockpit dashboard dyed Liang Kuan’s pupils blood-red.
Suddenly, a hand rested on his shoulder, and a calm voice sounded from behind, “About to enter South Station, right?”
Hearing this voice, Liang Kuan’s tense nerves relaxed a bit, “Zombies are getting more numerous. There must be a train blocking the platform, but we can’t stop.”
“Why stop?”
“Our train is heavy, but if we collide with another train, we’ll definitely derail. That’s worse than getting stuck directly in the zombie horde.”
Liang Kuan’s hand was already on the throttle.
Su Huan smiled, “Isn’t there still Xiao Ba?”
The youth sat silently in the corner of the driver’s cabin, as if blending into the darkness.
Liang Kuan said gravely, “Xiao Ba’s metal control is very strong, but even an empty carriage weighs at least dozens of tons. Xiao Ba can’t move it at all…”
Su Huan raised an eyebrow, “Who said I want to move the train? If the mountain won’t come to me, I’ll go to the mountain. Simple.”
Seeing his confident look, Liang Kuan gritted his teeth and pushed the speed to maximum!
Feeling the strained tremors of the engine beneath his feet, Su Huan narrowed his eyes and urged his energy to the extreme, evenly infusing it into the front of the train and the engines of the other four hydrogen-powered trains.
The fences on both sides turned into thick buildings.
Dense zombies clogged the railway track, with even more zombies charging down from the platform one after another. In the span of a breath, from the cockpit, the railway track was no longer visible.
The armored train was like sailing into a mass grave!
The ramming horn and steel plow played an excellent role. With the violent power, the train was like a ferry boat on the bridge of helplessness, wading a river of blood through the zombie tide.
Soon, the train parked at the edge of the platform ahead entered their view.
“Xiao Ba, move the railway track ahead for track switching!”
Su Huan stared at the train ahead, a certain light spot flickering in his eyes.
“Clang clang clang!”
The bolts on the railway track flew out one by one. The over-one-ton rail seemed bent by an invisible giant hand, pressed against the empty track beside it.
“Rumble——”
The armored train was like a nimble swimming dragon, instantly weaving past the parked train.
Seeing this scene, Liang Kuan let out a long breath.
“No problem this time, right?”
Su Huan asked faintly.
“Two hours later, we’ll be out of Mo Jiang City!”
Liang Kuan said firmly.
As long as no other train blocked them, nothing could stop a steel giant beast weighing over four thousand tons from breaking free.
Su Huan handed ten general energy crystals to Xiao Ba beside him.
“Absorb them one by one, then use this energy to stimulate your supernatural ability. Once these crystals are absorbed, your skill will promote to level 2. You guys watch over it. I’m going to eat.”
Xiao Ba looked at Su Huan in surprise, then nodded silently.
Although zombies were still continuously smashing into the front of the train, Su Huan had already left.
After a long while, Qi Xiao Ba’s voice suddenly rang out, “Something else should happen tonight.”
Liang Kuan, who was driving, was stunned for a moment, “We’re passing through Mo Jiang City. Who knows how many zombies we’ll go through…”
“No, it should be something more important than the zombie tide.”
“How do you know?”
“The most dangerous things, he only does himself.”
Liang Kuan sighed inwardly. That was because he wouldn’t entrust his life to others.
……
When Su Huan returned to the dining car, the clay pot on the induction cooker was still warm with river crab. The bubbling sounds were drowned out by the continuous muffled thuds on the carriage.
Huang Hai and that young man sat on the ground nearby, while the three brothers sat on chairs.
Seeing Su Huan arrive, several people quickly stood up.
Su Huan’s gaze swept over their faces, and he tsked lightly, “I don’t care about these things. We’re all our own people from now on.”
Wan Xing, looking slightly fatigued, handed over a Tier 1 general energy crystal from the side.
This was the result of an afternoon’s hard work.
“Good.” Su Huan acknowledged, pocketed the crystal, “Let’s eat.”
Yu Yue hurriedly brought over the clay pot from the side.
She filled a heaping bowl of rice and placed it in front of him.
Su Huan aligned the chopsticks in his hand, extended them halfway, and paused in mid-air.
“Aren’t you eating?”
