Chapter 77: What Price Should You Pay?
A strange expression suddenly appeared on the man’s face, “Then do you know what mode our Convoy operates in?”
“At least it’s freer than On the Train, right?”
“Very free. When danger comes, everyone relies on Instinct to escape. Whoever runs slower gets eaten by Zombies, and the remaining people can run farther.”
“Then you don’t have to be exploited, right?”
“You mean Supplies?”
“Yeah, you don’t have to get off the vehicle every time to collect Supplies, right?”
“If we don’t collect Supplies, where do you think our food and drinks come from? Could it be sent by Zombies?”
The man told a cold joke, but no one could laugh.
“As for exploitation… At the beginning, that man said Mo Jiang people help each other, put the food on his Truck because it has large capacity, and it could be distributed to people without food later, but later only those who listened to him got food, others still had to find it themselves.”
“Damn! None of these leaders are good.”
“Then why do you still follow them? You all have vehicles, why don’t you run on your own?”
The man sneered, the Darkness concealing his expression, “Why don’t you leave the Train?”
A Passenger opened his mouth to speak, but seemed to get stuck.
“……Our situation is different.”
The man tapped the thick floor beneath him with an empty Bottle, the eerie sound echoing in the Carriage, “What’s different? Even the worst-off Passengers On the Train have something to eat and drink, and a safe Place to sleep, but if you leave the Train, none of you are confident you can survive, right?”
“If we leave the Convoy and encounter a Zombie Tide again, or something like the Mutated Wolf Pack, who will be the bait…”
The clanging sound interrupted the discussion in the Carriage.
The man surrounded in the middle felt the Train gradually start moving, looking toward the pitch-black Outside the window, feeling a sense of safety for the first time since the Apocalypse.
This was a completely different feeling from being in a fixed Shelter or a thin-skinned Vehicle.
Staying at home is certainly safe, but watching the gradually collapsing World outside always brings a restless feeling of being abandoned by the World.
Fleeing Inside the vehicle is full of Trepidation, but at least it’s moving.
As long as it’s moving, there’s Hope.
……
In the Dining Car, Yu Yue absentmindedly tidied the Kitchen.
Unknowingly, she had already put the various Kitchenware back in place one by one, wiped away the remaining Bread crumbs on the Counter, closed the Oven lid, hung the Apron on the side hook, and then turned off the Dining Car lights.
Inside the Carriage, there was only the dull sound of the Wheel colliding with the Railway Track, slow and prolonged, driving her heartbeat.
Standing in the Corridor, she glanced at Carriage 3.
The lights were still on inside. Wan Xing usually busied herself until late. Her Daughter should be checking the Water Purifier on the second floor now.
She looked again toward Carriage 1, pitch black, without even a night light.
It was as if some terrifying Thing was waiting for her.
‘He’s so tired today, maybe he’s already asleep…’
Standing in the Darkness for a long time, the Woman twisted her fingers in hesitation.
After hesitating for a moment, she still decided to use her Ability to listen a little. The Room was very quiet, only steady Breathing sound, and what seemed like the slight Fluctuation of Liquid rippling.
Could it be that he fell asleep while taking a bath in the Bathtub?
Thinking of that night’s scene, a hint of hesitation appeared in Yu Yue’s almond eyes.
How about…
Go check first, and if he’s asleep, she’ll quietly slip away?
She picked up a wooden Tray with a Bottle of Whiskey on it, and a Cup filled with Ice Cubes.
This was her second plan.
If it really doesn’t work, get him drunk!
The Woman came to Su Huan’s Room Door, poked her head in from the half-open Room Door, and furtively looked into the Room.
A Desk Lamp was lit on the Table, its cold, dim light illuminating only a small area.
The neatly folded quilt on the Bed hadn’t been unfolded yet, so the only possibility left was the Bathroom.
A hesitant expression appeared on her face.
……
Su Huan set aside the Logbook he had just finished writing when he felt a General Energy Fluctuation sweep through his Room.
Ever since Promoting to Tier 1, the Skill of General Energy Perception’s Consumption was negligible compared to his massive Energy Reserve.
He kept it on whenever he was conscious.
Although the range was only one meter in radius, it was at least a Warning.
He didn’t expect to catch her so quickly.
Su Huan narrowed his eyes. Hadn’t he just warned her a few days ago?
He silently stepped out of the Bathtub, walked naked to the half-open Door, watching a small head poke in under his eyelids, her Hair coiled behind her head, the exposed earlobe red and dripping.
By the faint light, he could see the fine hairs on that ear tip standing up.
“Brother Su, are you asleep?”
The voice was very faint, carrying a barely perceptible tremor.
Su Huan leaned close to her ear and whispered coolly, “Not asleep. Didn’t you hear?”
“I just… just heard.”
Yu Yue swallowed lightly. When she poked her head in, she felt something was off and subconsciously used her Ability to listen to the sounds around her.
When she sensed the man’s powerful heartbeat right behind her, she was almost scared to death.
“Oh, so you did listen.”
Accompanied by the man’s deep voice, Yu Yue felt as if some cold-blooded animal was crawling up her Body from her waist, the chilling sensation lingering around her, but because it hadn’t bitten down yet, it was like fearing the Sword of Damocles, her Body’s Instinct fearing the landing point of the snake’s mouth.
She maintained this eerie posture, not daring to move.
The snake coiled around her Body, as if locking onto the softest area.
Moments later, a sudden pain in her Chest.
The Woman’s Body trembled, but she made no sound.
Su Huan rested his chin in the Woman’s shoulder nook and asked softly, “Why don’t you ever learn?”
“……I was wrong. I won’t dare do it again next time.”
The Woman apologized quickly, her tone sincere and soft.
Because her back was to Su Huan, and she didn’t dare use her Ability, she couldn’t see Su Huan’s expression and couldn’t tell if Su Huan was really angry.
Even though her Chest ached faintly, it couldn’t offset the Fear in her heart.
He casually pulled the Woman inside, one hand around her waist, the other falling into ().
His Arm exerted force, pulling her inward.
Feeling the Fat and Muscle slightly overflowing, even sensing the slender Bone wrapped inside the Body, Su Huan’s mouth curved upward, his teeth biting the Woman’s earlobe, a extremely faint laugh rumbling in his throat.
“Tell me, what price should you pay to earn my forgiveness?”
……
Yu Jing tossed aside the Wrench, glanced at her Wristwatch, her slender brows twitching, “An hour is acceptable…”
She turned and went downstairs. The first floor was filled with the massive wolf corpse, Wan Xing sitting there with eyes closed extracting General Energy Crystals.
Yu Jing didn’t disturb her, turned her head to glance at the Dining Car, pitch black.
Her Mother must have returned to her Room to Rest.
‘Maybe now I should go help the Train Conductor vent some fire?’
