Chapter 9: Bloody Resonance
Su Huan crouched down, drew a dagger from his calf, and began cutting the Blood Hound’s skin.
“Having a chance is enough.”
Metal reflections appeared in Qi Xiao Ba’s eyes. He raised his palm, and the twisted metal door and window quickly returned to their original state.
Su Huan looked up. “Is there enough General Energy? If so, seal everything completely.”
“Should be no problem.”
After saying that, all the metal wrapped around the Blood Hound flew up into the air, heading toward the window frame, transforming into a steel plate that sealed the entire window.
The moment the window was sealed, Su Huan was once again enveloped by a sense of security, though not as strong as the initial one.
A mere 3mm steel plate couldn’t provide him with sufficient sense of security.
Su Huan stood up, holding a thing he had dug out from the Blood Hound’s body.
He casually pulled a bottle of mineral water from the nearby pile of supplies, took a big gulp first, then poured the remaining half bottle of water over the bloody mass in his hand.
The bright red blood was washed away, revealing the true appearance of this thing.
It was clearly the Blood Hound’s heart.
Qi Xiao Ba looked thoughtfully at the heart in his hand.
The two arrived at the Dining Car. Seeing the scene inside, Qi Xiao Ba’s complexion changed abruptly.
“What’s wrong with Xing Zi?”
Yu Jing frowned and said, “She collapsed as soon as she came in. She’s still conscious, but her complexion is pale, very similar to the signs of mutation into those zombies.”
Qi Xiao Ba turned his gaze to Su Huan beside him.
Su Huan crouched down, looking at the weak Xing Zi, and said calmly, “There’s a way right now that can not only heal your injury but also possibly turn you into an Evolver with a supernatural ability. The cost is that you might die. Want to try?”
Xing Zi stared blankly into Su Huan’s eyes. She still couldn’t see any emotion in them.
They emitted an inexplicably convincing aura.
Looking at Qi Xiao Ba beside her, color returned slightly to Xing Zi’s reddened eyes. “How to do it?”
Su Huan held the Blood Hound’s heart in his hand up to her eyes and said seriously, “Eat it.”
……
The scene in the Dining Car carriage was very eerie. A group of people stood anxiously in a circle as a woman covered in blood firmly gnawed at the heart in her hand.
The carriage was filled only with faint chewing sounds.
The atmosphere inexplicably became eerie and gloomy.
Su Huan leaned back, sat on the sofa, and watched the scene with great interest.
There are generally two ways to become an Evolver.
One is to slowly come into contact with freshly deceased zombies, accumulate General Energy, and then quietly evolve when reaching a certain critical point.
The other is much more straightforward, like what Xing Zi was doing—raw eating a mutated beast’s heart.
Accumulating General Energy in the body to the critical value all at once.
The advantage is that it’s fast.
The disadvantage is that turning into a zombie is also fast.
When she had eaten half, Xing Zi seemed less weak, and her chewing speed increased even more.
After finishing the last bite, her eyes were covered by a white haze, like a layer of film had formed, and she collapsed directly to the ground.
Qi Xiao Ba nervously glanced at Su Huan.
Su Huan spread his hands. “Don’t look at me, there’s no way. Now it depends on whether she can endure it herself.”
Anyway, Xing Zi was picked up for free. If she became an Evolver, he would profit.
If she died, it wouldn’t be a loss. It was just one mutated beast heart, not that important.
Thinking of this, Su Huan subconsciously shifted his gaze to Liang Kuan. The man’s performance over this period had all been seen by him.
In Su Huan’s mind, he had already passed the first test.
He had been added to the internal member list.
Glancing at the thermometer on the wall, it had already soared to 27°C. He couldn’t help muttering inwardly that the temperature was rising really fast; it might reach 28 or 29 degrees at the hottest in the afternoon.
“Liang Kuan, go turn on the air conditioner.”
Liang Kuan got up and went to the front of the train. After five minutes, cool air blew into the VIP Dining Car.
“So, the way to become an Evolver is to accumulate enough… General Energy?” Yu Jing suddenly looked up at Su Huan and said, her eyes carrying a hint of confirmation.
“Snap!”
Su Huan snapped his fingers. “Correct.”
“General Energy Absorption will promote biological evolution, whether flowers, plants, trees, or cats or dogs—they can all evolve, just like the mutated beast earlier—the Blood Hound.”
“And the result of failed evolution is what you’ve seen: turning into zombies with infection ability.”
But zombies can also evolve.
So in his previous life, there was a theory that people who turned into zombies were just playing a resurrection match of evolution.
He had heard too many such half-true, half-false rumors; there was no need to tell them.
“So zombies and mutated beasts have a large amount of General Energy in their bodies. Under frequent contact, some people can activate supernatural abilities and gain powerful capabilities, but note, only ‘some people.’ Most turn into new zombies after infection.” Su Huan said seriously.
Qi Xiao Ba listened seriously too. Although he was also an Evolver, his understanding of the apocalypse, General Energy, and Evolvers was far less than Su Huan’s.
From just those few sentences earlier, everyone could tell that Su Huan had presented a logically complete conceptual system.
Not mere speculation.
Yu Jing didn’t ask how Su Huan obtained this information. Her beautiful phoenix eyes lingered on Xing Zi.
She had listened very clearly.
Long-term, frequent…
Not a single word here matched the method Xing Zi had just used.
“Her method of rapidly devouring General Energy is called—Bloody Resonance.”
Perhaps seeing her doubt, Su Huan said slowly.
“Oh.”
Yu Jing responded indifferently.
Su Huan felt a bit uncomfortable and looked up in surprise, only to see that woman Yu Jing staring at him with a probing, eerie gaze.
It wasn’t like a woman looking at a man; it was more like a researcher encountering an interesting… subject.
……
“Gurgle…”
After more than ten minutes, Xing Zi, lying on the ground, suddenly sat up. Everyone was startled, and Liang Kuan instinctively stood up to grab his axe.
Only Su Huan, seeing the non-reflective thin film in Xing Zi’s eyes, smiled.
He walked in front of her, crouched down, and extended his palm.
“Welcome to join the Armored Train.”
Xing Zi stared fixedly at Su Huan for a moment before extending her hand and arduously squeezing two words from her throat.
“Thank you.”
“If you feel dizzy, you can try closing your visual analysis. Think carefully; you should have this information in your memory.”
Su Huan reminded her.
“It seems… like this?”
The lightless thin film in Xing Zi’s eyes gradually disappeared, reflecting Su Huan’s appearance.
Su Huan snapped his fingers, his lips curving up. “Correct. You’ve now entered the world of Evolvers. By the way, what’s your full name?”
“Wan Xing, the Xing from apricot blossoms in spring rain.”
“Su Huan, the Huan from renewal and rebirth. You can call me Train Conductor, Old Da, boss, Su Ge, Su Huan… whatever. But understand one thing: as long as you’re on the train for one day, you listen to me. I’ll say this only once.”
Su Huan’s tone was calm, yet carried an undeniable chill.
