Chapter 25: Wanwan Will Protect Daddy’s Silver!
“Go do your own things.”
After the ruthless Great General drove the people away, he glanced at the young man standing to the side.
“Starting tomorrow, you will come to the military camp in the morning to train with the other soldiers and protect the young lady from now on.”
Lang Ya couldn’t speak, he just nodded, he was willing to do this.
Qin Wanwan snuggled in her Daddy’s arms, her chubby little face pressed against his.
“Daddy, I’ve named him, it’s Lang Ya.”
Xie Chong let out a hum: “Have you eaten?”
Qin Wanwan pawed at his large hand and placed it on her little belly.
“I’m full.”
A small round belly, soft and squishy.
Qin Wanwan remembered what she needed to do and immediately stated her request.
“Daddy, I need a hoe.”
“What do you need a hoe for?”
Qin Wanwan: “To farm.”
Xie Chong thought of the two bags of seeds the little one often carried with her.
Let her plant them, as the front and back courtyards of the house were empty anyway.
“Let the servants plant it. You need to buy the hoe and such at the blacksmith’s shop.”
He took Qin Wanwan back to the tent he often stayed in and rummaged through a box, finding a string of copper coins and some loose silver.
“Altogether there are three taels, take it and use it for now.”
These were all the loose silver and copper coins he had saved up bit by bit. A heavy box like this would have at least twenty to thirty taels.
The copper coins were quite heavy when there were many, so Xie Chong handed the money bag to Lang Ya after exiting the tent.
“Take this, and pay the young lady.”
Then, thinking of something, he asked Qin Wanwan: “Besides a hoe, do you need to buy anything else?”
Qin Wanwan: “I don’t know.”
After thinking about it, Xie Chong simply gave her another two taels of loose silver.
“Don’t lose it.”
He had saved up pocket money for many days, and usually had no expenses in the military camp.
His military pay was also considerable, but if there was ever a need for money in the military camp and it wasn’t enough, he would have to pay out of his own pocket to cover it.
Now that two bandit lairs had been cleared out, along with the silver smelted from that batch of silver mine, the military camp’s treasury had become much richer, and his little treasury was finally a bit fuller.
He was now willing to spend these small amounts of money as pocket money for his daughter.
With that batch of silver, the military camp’s equipment could be upgraded and expanded.
Buying horses, changing weapons and armor, all of this added up to a lot of silver.
And grain and fodder…
Just what he was calculating in the tent a moment ago, after all this work, there wouldn’t be much silver left, and they still needed to set aside some for the soldiers’ military pay.
But at least this time he wouldn’t have to pay out of his own pocket.
Xie Chong was considering writing a memorial to Shangjing to complain about their hardship and ask for rewards, after all, the silver mine also had his merit.
He didn’t have time to go shopping with Wanwan, so Xie Chong instructed a soldier to accompany her to buy farm tools, and then sent them out of the military camp.
As they were leaving, the sticky little white ball hugged her Daddy’s neck, very reluctant to part.
“Daddy, you have to come home tonight, Wanwan will wait for Daddy to come home.”
Her dark and bright eyes looked at him with great anticipation.
Xie Chong, the cold-faced general, felt his heart soften immensely, but he didn’t show it on his face.
“I know.”
After sending them off, Xie Chong turned and went to write the memorial.
With a poker face, he wrote about suffering to the tenth degree, determined to make His Majesty believe that their border army was so poor they could barely make ends meet.
Now that he had a daughter to support, he absolutely could not continue to be poor like this!
The soldier assigned to accompany them was local and took them directly to the blacksmith’s shop.
The old blacksmith saw that they were from the border army and gave them practical prices.
However, iron itself was not cheap.
Qin Wanwan asked for three large hoes, a small shovel, and a sickle, along with other basic farm tools.
It cost a total of two taels of silver.
The blacksmith’s son was asked to deliver the items directly to the General’s Mansion.
“Young Lady, today is market day, would you like to go take a look?”
Qin Wanwan looked at the remaining money and happily nodded.
“Yes!”
So the three of them walked towards the market.
There weren’t many shops here, but during market days, there were quite a few people setting up stalls.
There were vendors selling vegetables, various types of animal meat, and cooked food, basically baozi, steamed buns, noodles, and pancakes.
Qin Wanwan touched her little belly; she wasn’t very hungry yet.
She didn’t buy any cooked food, but when she saw fruit for sale, she didn’t hesitate to buy some.
Fragrant pears, apples, pomegranates, and crisp dates.
These cost another five hundred copper coins.
Qin Wanwan also bought some cloth because she remembered what Ke Ke had said.
Daddy’s underpants were worn out and he hadn’t changed them.
The little girl used all the remaining money to buy cloth, and she wanted to make clothes for her Daddy, black ones, because black doesn’t show dirt easily.
Having spent all the money, Lang Ya and the soldier carried a large pile of things towards the General’s Mansion.
After delivering the items and people to the General’s Mansion, the soldier left to report back.
For the rest of the time, Qin Wanwan, along with the three servants of the household, turned over the soil in the front yard.
Lang Ya looked thin, but he had quite a bit of strength, so he did the most work.
Finally, as Ke Ke had instructed, she sprinkled all the pasture grass seeds.
“Is this enough?”
Ke Ke tidied the feathers on its wings: “It should be.”
It hadn’t planted crops before either.
“Why don’t you spend a hundred Merit Points tonight to receive some inherited memories?”
“Mother said I’m still young and can’t receive inherited memories.”
Qin Wanwan took off her dirty shoes, her skirt was also dirty.
“Sister Lu He, I want to take a bath.”
Lu He: I already told you not to call me Sister.
But the young lady only remembered for that one time, and quickly forgot afterwards, continuing to call her Sister Lu He.
Forget it, it can’t be corrected.
Lu He responded: “Zhang Shen and I will go boil water.”
Ke Ke: “It’s okay to just receive a portion of the inherited memories. Your Qilin clan has a neighborly and friendly relationship with the Shen Nong clan in the Primordial Era. The Shen Nong clan excels at planting, and the Qilin clan has inherited memories in this regard. You can accept a small portion of unimportant inherited memories with your current memories.”
Qin Wanwan sat on the stone steps, her two chubby hands supporting her cheeks, her eyes filled with confusion.
“But, why plant pasture grass?”
“This pasture grass might not be useful to you, but it will be very useful to your Daddy.”
“It’s wild grass that’s everywhere in the Immortal Realm, containing a small amount of Spiritual Energy. It can improve soil, it’s tenacious, grows fast and lush, and herbivorous animals in the mortal world love to eat it. Think about the horses in your Daddy’s military camp; they have to spend a lot of silver every year to buy horse feed.”
Daddy loves silver so much, how heartbroken he must be.
The little girl clenched her small fists: “Wanwan will protect Daddy’s silver!”
Thus, she became very dedicated to the pasture grass in the front yard.
She also agreed to receive some inherited memories about planting that night.
That evening, when Qin Wanwan wanted to sleep, she skillfully hugged her small pillow and went to find her Daddy.
“Daddy, sleep.”
Qin Wanwan, already drowsy, yawned and laboriously climbed into her Daddy’s arms, nestling in very smoothly.
Xie Chong, who was still looking at official documents: …………
He would probably have to stay up late tonight, as there were many things left unfinished.
“Go back and sleep first.”
Qin Wanwan refused, humming and squirming her little body, finding a comfortable position, hugging her small pillow, and closing her eyes.
Her expression seemed to say: I’m going to sleep, don’t disturb me!
