Chapter 105: No Rush
Xiao Yanci sized up Yang Quan in front of him.
Short in stature, ugly in appearance, timid in personality—if it were in the past, a person like this wouldn’t even qualify to be his servant.
Jiang Yihuan actually wanted to make food for such a person. It could only be said that she was truly too kind, personally taking care of even such a lowly person.
Xiao Yanci didn’t stop Jiang Yihuan from being good to Yang Quan, after all, Yang Quan’s skills were the foundation of their shop, and it was best to make him completely devoted to Zhong Lanhua and her daughter.
“Then I’ll go back to my room to read. You should rest early too, Huan’er.” Xiao Yanci indulgently touched Jiang Yihuan’s hair.
Jiang Yihuan nodded lightly and said shyly, “I know, Xiao Gege.”
Xiao Yanci glanced at Yang Quan, clearly declaring his sovereignty. Although this Yang Quan was so ugly that Jiang Yihuan couldn’t possibly take a liking to him, Jiang Yihuan’s personality was too gentle, warm-hearted to everyone, and he didn’t want certain people to lack self-awareness and covet someone they shouldn’t.
Peach Blossom Workshop backyard. Zhou Wangshu stood in front of the bronze mirror, his clothes wide open, revealing a body covered in various scars.
Whenever he saw the scars on his body, the killing intent in his heart surged.
“Wangshu, are you asleep?” Su Yaoguang called him from the doorway.
Zhou Wangshu straightened his clothes, opened the door, and looked at her calmly with eyes like stars in the dark night: “Not yet. Is something wrong?”
Although his voice was still so gentle and he looked just as obedient, Su Yaoguang instinctively felt that something was off.
A dangerous aura spread in the air.
She sized up the young man in front of her, inwardly laughing at herself for overthinking. Such an obedient child was just like a well-behaved puppy—where was the danger?
“I made some pastries. You’ve been reading and must be tired—eat something.” Su Yaoguang stuffed the pastries in her hand into his.
“It’s so late, you should rest early.” Zhou Wangshu looked at the pastries in his hand, the darkness in his eyes fading as they returned to their original clarity.
He sized up the innocent young girl in front of him.
“I’ll go to sleep soon. By the way, tomorrow morning I’ll make steamed buns for you—don’t leave in a hurry, take some to the academy for your classmates to try.”
“Okay.”
After delivering the things, Su Yaoguang saw that Zhou Wangshu was dressed thinly and reminded him to wear more, then returned to the next room.
Su Yaoguang returned to the room and saw Jiang Jing writing something. She went over and asked, “What are you writing?”
“I want to tweak the face cream recipe again to make our face cream even more effective,” Jiang Jing said. “That way, the customers will know our things are the best—the cheap things across the street can’t possibly have such good effects.”
“You don’t need to be so tense. Research slowly, no need to rush. We make our living by our abilities—if we really lose to them, we’ll just admit we’re not as skilled. But we know their strength, and we also know they can’t make us completely fail. Treat these few days as a rest for yourself.”
Jiang Jing was unconvinced and continued her research.
“Jing’er…” Su Yaoguang had just lain down when she saw Jiang Jing’s face and suddenly sat up, saying in surprise, “The dark spots on your face have faded a lot.”
Jiang Jing touched her cheek and picked up the mirror beside her to look: “Really. Could it be that the medicine I made recently worked?”
“You used yourself for testing again?” Su Yaoguang frowned. “I’ve told you before, don’t test drugs randomly before the prescription is confirmed.”
“I know. I have full control over what those medicines do and what reactions they’ll cause after taking them. I’ve made all kinds of preparations before taking them. Look, the dark spots on my face have faded so much—clearly, the recent medicines I took are taking effect. I need to study which ingredient worked, then take a few more doses to test.”
Su Yaoguang smiled and picked up the storybook beside her to read.
Jiang Jing was full of enthusiasm and not ready to sleep early. Perfectly, she hadn’t relaxed like this in a long time, so today she’d finish the remaining half of the storybook.
In her previous life, how could she have had such leisure?
This was the kind of life people should live.
In the middle of the night, Su Yaoguang was startled awake by thunder.
After the thunder, fierce winds battered the windows, making them rattle. Then heavy rain poured down, falling fiercely as if something was chasing it.
She got up to close the windows securely, but heard coughing coming from next door.
She went to the next room and knocked lightly on the door, but there was no response inside. She looked in through the nearby window but didn’t see Zhou Wangshu on the bed.
The coughing came from inside, meaning he was in there. But he wasn’t on the bed—where was he now?
She pushed open the door and went in.
“Wangshu…”
Su Yaoguang found Zhou Wangshu in the corner by the cabinet.
There was a very narrow space between the cabinet corner and the bed corner, just right for him curled up there.
“Wangshu…” Su Yaoguang squatted down and called him softly.
She noticed his condition was off.
She tried pushing his arm: “Wang… Hiss…”
Zhou Wangshu grabbed her arm and bit down hard on the back of her hand.
“Wangshu… Ah… It hurts… Let go…” Su Yaoguang cried out in pain.
Crackle! Thunder boomed down.
In the flash of lightning, Su Yaoguang saw what Zhou Wangshu looked like at that moment.
His eyes were completely red, as if he had lost his reason.
Su Yaoguang stroked his hair: “Wangshu, don’t be afraid. Older sister is here with you.”
Zhou Wangshu stiffened for a moment, then quickly relaxed and gradually calmed down.
He let go of Su Yaoguang’s hand.
“Shall we go to the bed to rest?” Su Yaoguang pulled him to get up.
At this moment, Zhou Wangshu was like a marionette, as if his soul had left him.
Su Yaoguang had him lie down, and he did.
But his eyes were open.
Rumbling!
When thunder sounded again, he trembled and shrank into her arms.
He hugged her waist tightly, making small beast-like whimpers from his mouth.
“There, there, I’m here, don’t be afraid.” Su Yaoguang patted his back. “Go to sleep, I’ll stay here with you.”
Su Yaoguang realized that Zhou Wangshu was probably very afraid of thunder, which was why he reacted like this.
What exactly had he gone through before to have such a reaction?
The thunderstorm lasted until dawn. After dawn, the thunder stopped and the rain lightened considerably, but it didn’t stop.
Su Yaoguang had sat on Zhou Wangshu’s bed resting all night.
When Zhou Wangshu woke up, he saw himself lying on Su Yaoguang’s lap, with her hand resting on his head.
He looked at the mirror opposite, and the reflection showed such a warm scene.
Last night, he had had an episode.
He slowly got up, and as soon as he moved, Su Yaoguang’s hand lightly stroked his hair as she mumbled, “Don’t be afraid, I’m here.”
Zhou Wangshu felt complicated emotions.
Was she stupid?
Would she go all out for any stranger who seemed even slightly pitiful?
