Chapter 34: Politics Means Making Lots Of Friends
Metis nodded lightly: “Although the great gods cannot act directly, their children can act directly. They need not break their oaths and can still provide us with tremendous assistance.”
“As long as they see the hope of victory, our assistance will grow more and more.”
“After gaining the support of the Titan great gods, you can no longer evade. You must establish your own foundation, set up the divine court of the future, and truly contend with the God King.”
“Only by withstanding the God King’s attacks and letting the world see your power will the gods fully resolve to help, abandon their old loyalties, and welcome the new era.”
Zeus punched hard, laughing loudly: “That’s enough!”
Metis hesitated for a moment, then softly advised: “Zeus, I know you are very strong, but the God King’s power is not to be underestimated. Even though he has been greatly weakened by you, the God King remains the strongest god. The gods will not openly support you until the last moment.”
“The current support from the gods is very vain. Everything still depends on you yourself. You must not be careless or underestimate the enemy.”
Zeus laughed heartily, nodding heavily with a firm gaze: “I know. I will not underestimate any enemy, nor will I let the mistake of underestimating the enemy happen again!”
He paused, then winked at Metis, smiling very sunnily, full of trust: “Moreover, don’t I have you by my side to check for oversights and guide my direction?”
Metis, somewhat panicked in her heart, looked aside, no longer looking at him, a faint, imperceptible blush quietly rising on her cheeks.
Watching the two gods flirt, a deeper smile appeared on Rhea’s beautiful face. In every aspect, this Goddess of Wisdom was the most suitable divine choice to match Zeus.
Since the plan was set, it was time to execute it immediately!
For safety and secrecy, Mother Goddess Rhea first asked Lady of Night to help conceal their auras. Only then did the three gods secretly head into the world to meet Sea God Pontus.
In the cause of overthrowing the Heavenly Father, among the great gods at that time, the only one who did not contribute any effort was Sea God Pontus.
He had no merit whatsoever toward the new order.
When Cronus redefined the world order, the rights order he established was one centered on the twelve Titans. Sea God Pontus inherently had no honor to speak of.
If not for the shelter of Mother of All Gaia, he would have long been devoured utterly by Cronus. Even the other Titans would not have cared much about his outcome.
Those who did not contribute to founding the realm have no right to speak much.
In the new era, to survive, he took the initiative to form a marriage alliance with the Titans. Even so, during Cronus’s centralization process, he showed no mercy in dealing with him.
Even though Pontus was oppressed to this extent, getting him to resist Cronus was something he absolutely dared not do.
However, though he dared not rebel, he harbored anger and resentment in his heart!
Getting him to remain neutral would not be difficult.
Though he was the Sea, within the world’s order, Pontus could only go with the flow.
Pulling in Pontus was mainly to take care of Mother Goddess Gaia’s mood and to pull in Crius.
When the three gods arrived at the Inner Sea, Pontus humbly came out to greet them personally, his attitude extremely humble.
His body was enormous, yet he bowed to welcome Zeus and the others, displaying extreme caution and humility.
The same sea, yet he was completely different from Poseidon, the capricious and hot-tempered Outer Sea. He was a truly honest god, mild-tempered and good-natured.
He had no choice but to be good-natured; a bad temper would have gotten him dealt with by the Titans long ago.
Zeus also fully showed him respect, proactively embracing Pontus with a sincere smile on his face: “Respected and great Child of God of the Mother Goddess of All Things, it is an honor to meet you. Your existence brings beauty to the world.”
Pontus was even somewhat flattered. For so many years, he had been a god with his tail between his legs, low-key to the extreme. Now, a god standing up to challenge the God King treated him with such respect upon meeting—he was both shocked and delighted, his heart filled with mixed emotions for a moment.
Pontus appeared as a burly middle-aged man, handsome in features, with deep blue pupils and a profound gaze, looking exceedingly upright and mild.
He smiled very mildly, his tone even more humble: “Respected great Goddess Queen, Son of the Goddess Queen, Daughter of the Ocean God, welcome your arrival. The Sea shines because of you.”
When he saw that Zeus was accompanied by Daughter of the Ocean Metis, he already knew Oceanus’s attitude and fully understood the purpose of Zeus’s visit.
Pontus invited Zeus and the others into the undersea divine palace, even strongly insisting that Rhea sit in his main seat.
After the gods were seated, Pontus took the lead in asking despite knowing the answer: “Respected Child of the Universe, may I ask what important matter brings your divine presence to condescend to the Sea?”
Zeus smiled as he explained his plans for the future cosmic order(political program), then sincerely invited Pontus to join his camp.
He gave political promises: “Respected Your Excellency Pontus, I guarantee to you here that in the new order, you will fairly receive the honor you deserve. Your efforts will no longer be ignored.”
After hearing Zeus’s long speech, Pontus was naturally moved by the new order. In the current situation, if things did not improve, he would sooner or later be devoured utterly by Cronus.
But participating in rebellion was impossible.
At least openly, it was absolutely out of the question.
Getting involved in such a matter, as an outer god in various senses, one misstep would lead to utter destruction.
He cautiously replied: “Great and wise Child of the Universe, your breadth of mind and wisdom fill me with admiration. I look forward to the day you establish the cosmic order.”
“But I have sworn allegiance to the God King, and I cannot betray my oath. Likewise, I am loyal to the great and merciful Goddess Queen; that is my duty.”
“My ability is so meager. I fear I cannot help with the great cause you seek to create.”
Pontus’s polite refusal was completely within Zeus’s expectation. Zeus laughed heartily upon hearing this, laughing so much that Pontus felt a bit panicked.
Zeus restrained his laughter and smiled faintly: “Respected Pontus, I respect you as I respect all great gods. I understand your difficulties. You are a kind and gentle great god who abhors war and desires peace.”
“I am not like the cruel and tyrannical God King. I am the merciful Son of Rhea and will not force anyone.”
“My arrival today is merely to tell you my intention, merely to let you know that the world should have a better order, and that all gods should receive their due honor.”
Zeus’s tone was utterly sincere. “An upright god should not force any god to break their oath, so this visit is not to ask you to betray your oath.”
“I only want you to know that no matter what choice you make, as long as you do not make the wrong decision, the honor belonging to you will forever exist in the future universe—no one can take it away.”
“As for Poseidon and the laws he has already gestated, existence is reasonable; that is part of the universe. But he will only be responsible for the seas beyond the Earth. Your authority will be respected and upheld.”
