Chapter 73: Simple, Direct, Effective
Seeing Li Ye walking forward, Huang Qingyi followed and said, “Sealing it up is useless anyway. It’ll be unsealed after a while. We’ve done this before.”
“Right now it’s just the two of us. As soon as we leave, it’ll be unsealed right after. Ningjiang City is so big. Can we seal it all?”
“Who told you I’m clearing the place just to seal it?”
Li Ye turned his head and smiled at him, stepped through the gate, entered the spacious hall, and walked toward the front desk.
At the front desk were two young ladies in miniskirts. Seeing the automatic door open, they seemed about to greet them, but they clearly froze upon seeing Li Ye and Huang Qingyi’s uniforms.
“Huang Disinfection Officer!”
But before Li Ye could speak, a man in a suit, with muscles outlined, sitting on the side sofa stood up and walked over.
“I thought you quit. Didn’t expect you to be so dutiful. And a new face? A newbie?”
He was at least six foot three, taller than both Li Ye and Huang Qingyi. Looking down with extreme ferocity, he smiled:
“This disinfection officer looks sharp in uniform. Here to check if we have any demonic creatures? It was just sealed recently. Sealing it again is the same.”
Huang Qingyi frowned and shouted, “Mu Dayuan! What’s with your attitude!”
The suited thug named Mu Dayuan grinned, “I’m being very cooperative, Huang Disinfection Officer. If you’re here to investigate, I’ll definitely cooperate. You can’t suspect I’m a demonic creature just because I look fierce, right?”
“Huang Qingyi”
Li Ye suddenly spoke, asking, “What level is this guy?”
“Oh, this new disinfection officer is asking me?”
Mu Dayuan directly surged his qi and blood, leaping at four frequencies, “Nothing much, just a minor Four Dragon Gate. Can’t compare to you disinfection officers.”
“You’re Six Dragon Gate, right?” Li Ye looked at Huang Qingyi.
“Right.”
“Then why aren’t you beating him?”
Li Ye’s words left Huang Qingyi stunned in place.
Mu Dayuan was also stunned for a moment, but soon burst into laughter: “This disinfection officer really is a newbie. The Disinfection Bureau handles demonic creatures fine, but I’m human and haven’t broken any laws. Why beat me up?”
“Besides, if I break the law, it’s the legal system that judges me. You disinfection officers should focus on preventing demonic creatures.”
His words were full of utter disdain.
Li Ye nodded, beckoned him over with his hand, signaling him to come closer.
Mu Dayuan approached with a smile, “Any advice, this di—”
Smack!
As he approached, Li Ye slapped him hard across the face, adding force to slam his head down onto the solid floor tile with a thud.
It even had some bounce, making his head rebound upward a bit.
Li Ye looked down, “I don’t like people looking down at me. Your attitude pisses me off too. It affects my judgment of demonic creatures and obstructs the case.”
Huang Qingyi was dumbfounded, “There’s no such rule, right?”
“No, I made it up.” Li Ye didn’t care.
After the heavy blow, Mu Dayuan instinctively clutched his head, clearly dazed. It took a long while before he regained some awareness, stammering:
“I, I’m suing you. I’m human. You Disinfection Bureau have no authority. No…”
Bang!
Li Ye kicked him in the abdomen, sending him flying like a ball straight into the front desk counter, smashing a gash in it and embedding his entire back inside.
“When handling cases from now on, if you can’t beat them, forget it. If you can, beat them first and talk later. I’ve come to check for demonic creatures. What kind of good place breeds demonic creatures?”
“Th-this doesn’t follow regulations…” Huang Qingyi’s voice weakened a bit.
“But it’s the most effective.”
Li Ye crouched down, grabbed Mu Dayuan’s hair, and lifted up the man whose eyes were starting to roll back.
“Hmm, pretty tough. Practicing hardening technique, huh? You’re the head here?”
“I, I’m filing a complaint. I, I’m not a demonic creature…”
Bang!
Li Ye grabbed his head and smashed it into the jagged gravel protrusion on the front desk dent, immediately sending a few drops of blood flying.
Bang!
Bang!
Bang!
Then, he grabbed Mu Dayuan’s head again and slammed it down three more times. When lifted up, the opposite side of his face was covered in wound traces, with a piece of gravel stuck to his cheek.
Li Ye narrowed his eyes, “Last time. You’re the head here?”
Mu Dayuan slowly but firmly shook his head.
He chickened out!
He had to. If he didn’t, he’d die!
“Where’s your head.”
“Six, six floor.”
Li Ye stood up, grabbed Mu Dayuan’s hair, dragged his upper body upright, and headed straight for the elevator.
Huang Qingyi was stunned for a while. Seeing Li Ye about to reach the elevator, he chased after, “He looks like he’s about to die.”
“Then today counts as opening day.”
Li Ye didn’t even look at the Mu Dayuan in his hand. After saying that, he waited for the elevator door to open, dragged him in, and went inside.
The sixth floor was a small hall with about ten people gathered, chatting and laughing in groups around small tables, playing drinking games, looking relaxed and carefree.
But this carefree atmosphere was soon broken.
Thud!
As the elevator door opened, an object flew out quickly from inside, smashing into the nearest small table and sending those few people tumbling.
The huge noise instantly silenced the noisy small hall.
It also highlighted the crisp sound of leather boots tapping on the floor.
Step, step, step.
“Disinfection Bureau handling a case. Everyone quiet.”
Li Ye strode in, scanned around, and fixed his gaze on the sofa near the wall.
There, a bald man with tattoos extending from his neck sat there boldly, his scrutinizing gaze mixed with surprise, clearly not yet reacting.
“You’re the leader?”
“Disinfection Bureau?”
The Crew Cut Man finally reacted, stood up, glanced at Mu Dayuan who had crashed into the table and fainted, and said sinisterly:
“The Disinfection Bureau can’t just beat people without reason, right? My place was just inspected and found free of demonic creatures. Now you’re back and beat my employee. Isn’t that over the top? Bullying us ordinary folks?”
As he spoke, he stepped forward two steps. With his qi and blood surging, he actually leaped at six frequencies.
Six Dragon Gate!
As he stood, the others in the small hall also stood up one after another, surging their qi and blood—mostly One or Two Dragon Gate, with occasional Three Dragon Gate.
“Brothers, beat them first! Talk later!”
The Disinfection Bureau only investigates demonic creatures, not people.
Push them too hard, and they’ll fight back.
Martial artist against martial artist, no one would say anything. So what about the Disinfection Bureau? Lose and file a complaint; win and get sealed for a while at worst.
They’re not demonic creatures anyway.
Especially with the Disinfection Bureau’s current situation… People are quitting, and now some hothead shows up.
What’s not to fight!
“Brothers, get him!”
Whoosh!
As the Crew Cut Man roared and moved, a gust of wind inexplicably came from the side.
The man who had just spoken seemed to glide through the air, arriving directly at his front side.
You could clearly see it, but the body couldn’t react.
Bang!
That fist slammed into his right rib, sinking deep. With one punch, he flew straight out, sticking to the wall with a smack like a painting, hanging there without falling for a long time.
The rest didn’t even get a chance to move before witnessing this, all stunned in place, dead silent.
“Finding the head makes it easy.”
Li Ye chuckled. As the man was about to fall, he grabbed his ankle and swept him down to the ground, then casually sat on the sofa and asked:
“Now, we’re investigating the case.”
