Chapter 172: Wali And Yina
Shi An’an and Xiu climbed onto the boulder and looked around, but found no traces of anyone else living.
The two silently extended their spiritual sense downward, and discovered the child walking down along the stone cracks…
Then there was a stone door. The child laboriously pushed open the stone door and went inside, finally seeing traces of human habitation.
“Wali, where did you go? Did you go out?”
From the depths, a voice suddenly appeared. A woman walked over from the darkness.
The woman was wrapped in cloth, appeared somewhat old, with wrinkles on her face, but looked relatively healthy.
However, when the woman reached out to stroke Wali’s head, they discovered that her arm was covered in scales.
However, that child, known as Wali, leaned affectionately into the woman’s embrace, his face full of sadness.
“Yina, I saw another corpse thrown in. I went to check, he was already dead, covered in blood. They didn’t even stitch him up…”
Wali’s voice carried hatred, as if recalling his own past experiences, fear appearing on his face again.
“Yina, when can we leave here? I want to go home…”
Yina gently stroked Wali’s head, soothing him. “We will. I believe one day we will leave here.”
Tears welled in Yina’s eyes, her face showing despair, but her words were ones of comfort and encouragement.
She soothed Wali over and over until he calmed down and stopped trembling.
“How is he? Has the fever gone down?” After Wali calmed, he walked further inside.
Yina followed behind him and sighed. “The fever just broke. But he still hasn’t woken up. I fed him some juice from that fruit, hoping he can pull through…”
Walking further inside, they saw an open space. The ground was covered with thick leaves, and against the rock, a person lay there. If not for the slight rise and fall of his chest, one would think he was already dead.
“Ever since we picked him up, he’s been like this. I really don’t know how long he can hold on.” Yina looked sympathetically at the person on the ground.
Wali’s face showed an indifference unlike a child’s. “If he has the will to survive, he can pull through.
If he doesn’t even want to live himself, saving him is useless.”
Yina sighed heavily upon hearing this, but had to admit it was true.
“Eat the fruit. I just picked it.”
Yina handed the fruit she had just picked to Wali, who took it expressionlessly.
The bright red fruit looked very pretty, but was extremely hard to swallow.
But to survive, he could only choose to eat it.
Yina picked up a fruit, broke it open, revealing dark green pulp that smelled somewhat unpleasant.
She wiped some of the dark green juice with her hand and applied it to the man’s body.
She then carefully took out the seeds from the pulp, placed them on leaves, to dry in the open tomorrow, which could also be eaten as food.
Wali struggled to eat two fruits, then couldn’t eat any more. He placed the seeds he spat out on the same leaves where Yina had put hers.
Shi An’an looked at the fruit, stood up, scanned the surroundings, and not far away discovered a dense growth of vine plants bearing many bright red, enticing fruits.
It was exactly the fruit that Yina and the others ate.
“What is this?”
Shi An’an and the other arrived at this area where the fruits grew.
“This is trichosanthes. It looks very pretty, but the inside is… hard to look at.”
Xiu picked one, broke it open, and looked at the pulp resembling feces. He resisted the urge to throw it away and lifted it to smell.
Under Shi An’an’s horrified gaze, Xiu’s expression changed drastically.
“Pfft!” Shi An’an burst out laughing at Xiu’s drastic change in expression.
She never expected Xiu to actually lean in and smell it.
A normal person would throw away something so disgusting right away, let alone smell it.
“This fruit is not only not tasty and ugly, but also smells bad.”
Shi An’an held back her laughter and continued, “But the seeds inside, when taken out, taste okay. Want to try?”
Shi An’an looked at Xiu amusedly. Xiu shook his head firmly. “No need.”
“I just saw them applying this stuff to their bodies…”
“Oh, it has some healing effect.”
“Those three are probably experimental subjects who survived after being thrown here.” Xiu guessed.
Shi An’an watched the three. Their condition was very poor, skin and bones. If not for the spiritual energy on this planet nourishing their bodies, they probably couldn’t have lasted this long.
“I’ll go talk to them. You…”
Xiu habitually acted alone, leaving Shi An’an in place. But when he saw Shi An’an glaring at him warningly, he swallowed the words he was about to say.
“You… want to come with me?”
“Of course!” Shi An’an agreed decisively, giving Xiu a “smart choice” look before turning to leave.
Xiu shook his head with a smile. He really should reflect on himself. An’an was not a helpless girl.
Shi An’an had previously discovered another passage leading to the same cave.
Shi An’an walked ahead, carefully making no sound. Her body could fit through perfectly, while Xiu… had some trouble.
His body was too tall and large; the narrow passage stuck him, making it hard to advance or retreat.
Shi An’an turned to look at the stuck Xiu, squinting with laughter. “Wait outside for me. I’ll go in.”
Xiu refused firmly. “No.”
He wasn’t reassured letting her go in alone. Generally, after such inhumane torment, experimental subjects would have mental issues. He feared those two might harm An’an.
The next second, Shi An’an’s face lit up with surprise.
“Tudou!”
Xiu instantly transformed into Tudou’s previous form. Shi An’an happily scooped up Tudou.
So nostalgic!
“I…”
“No talking!” Shi An’an said fiercely. “You’re Tudou now. Don’t talk.”
Finally seeing her pet, she was so happy.
Xiu helplessly shut up, letting Shi An’an pet him.
At the same time, he secretly rejoiced inside. In the future, he could shrink often…
Suddenly, Shi An’an, too busy happily petting Tudou, accidentally kicked a stone.
In the open space, the sound of the stone rolling was exceptionally clear.
“Who!” Wali jumped up abruptly, looking warily this way.
Yina also took out a weapon, aiming at the passage here.
“Sorry to disturb you.”
Shi An’an, holding Tudou, appeared in their view.
Yina and Wali looked at the delicate and pretty girl, cradling a young lion in her arms.
For a moment, they were somewhat stunned. How many years had it been? Since being captured into the laboratory, they hadn’t seen such a vibrant and beautiful person.
