Chapter 84: He Always Grants Her Every Wish
After seeing Jin Shi Yue off, Lian Li did not return to her room to catch up on sleep.
She went back to her apartment to pack the rest of her belongings.
The journey was quite far, and it was already past one in the afternoon when Lian Li arrived.
The luxury apartment was located in a prime area, not only a good school district but also a top commercial zone, often frequented by celebrities.
Passing by shops on the way, Lian Li glanced at the lanterns hanging at the entrance and remembered a time during New Year when she bought lanterns, hung them in her apartment, and then insisted on hanging bright red lanterns for Jin Yan Ting at Wan Yi Hua Fu as well.
With that thought, she opened the apartment door.
To her surprise, she saw Jin Yan Ting.
He stood by the glass display cabinet, dressed in a well-tailored gray suit, his jacket off to reveal a fitted vest and shirt underneath, exuding an air of solemnity and prestige.
The warm light from the crystal chandelier fell upon him, casting shadows on the vintage floor, creating a sense of overwhelming elegance.
Lian Li followed his gaze and saw the trophies she had left there, including awards from cello competitions and math contests.
“Brother.”
Jin Yan Ting had noticed her upon her entry. Hearing her voice, he turned, his expression unreadable, and appraised her with a steady gaze.
“Little Li doesn’t even tell me when school holidays start anymore.”
In the past, she was eager to spend time with him; now, she wanted to distance herself as much as possible. Lian Li had never been one to report her schedule to others; she was simply returning to her old ways.
“I was worried about disturbing your work,” Lian Li replied, her expression unchanged. “So I didn’t say anything.”
Zhang Sao was in the kitchen making dumplings, and the aroma wafted out. She turned and glanced towards the kitchen.
A subtle, complex emotion flickered in Jin Yan Ting’s calm gaze as he spoke in a deep, gentle voice, “Little Li has grown up. Are you planning to start your own household?”
His tone was calm, yet it carried the oppressive weight of someone in a high position.
Planning to start her own household?
But her household registration had been solely under her name for a long time. Everything had happened so quickly, leaving her no time to prepare.
Lian Li didn’t want to play the victim, so she said cheerfully, “Haven’t I grown up long ago?”
Looking at the young girl’s smile, Jin Yan Ting watched her quietly for a moment, a hint of imperceptible indulgence appearing at the corner of his lips. “Yes.”
The dumplings were ready, and Zhang Sao brought out two bowls. It wasn’t strange for a brother and sister to eat dumplings together, especially with Zhang Sao present.
Lian Li sat at the dining table, looking at the colorful dumplings in her bowl, each with a different filling. She picked up a white one with her chopsticks and took a slow bite.
Jin Yan Ting watched the serene and elegant young girl, suddenly feeling she had lost weight. The last time they had dumplings together was during the Mid-Autumn Festival.
“If you like dumplings, you can ask Zhang Sao to make them anytime,” Jin Yan Ting said, his expression placid.
“Okay.”
While eating, Lian Li tied up her long hair into a bun, which dangled at the back of her head, revealing her fair, delicate face and long, slender neck.
The dumplings Zhang Sao made were beautifully presented and delicious. Jin Yan Ting picked one up, put it in his mouth, chewed a few times, and swallowed it slowly.
“Do you want to go to Switzerland during the winter break?”
It was normal for a brother to want his sister to go out and play during her holidays, rather than staying cooped up at home.
Lian Li replied, “No. I have several performances next month that were scheduled in advance and cannot be canceled.”
Jin Yan Ting nodded slightly, acknowledging the importance of keeping one’s word in any endeavor.
His mobile phone vibrated. Jin Yan Ting glanced at it; it was Duan Shiqing calling.
After returning to the country, her company’s projects faced a crisis, and she sought investors, leading her to contact Sheng Jing Group.
Duan Shiqing had achieved fame at a young age. After successfully starting a business in Wall Street, she acquired a global top luxury bridal brand, gaining widespread recognition. However, fate intervened; a designer under her had become involved in a scandal and even faced a lawsuit for plagiarism.
There were few in the Duan family involved in business, and those in politics were sensitive and unable to intervene. Duan’s father then asked Jin Yan Ting, out of consideration for their past relationship, to look after Duan Shiqing.
Duan Shiqing was currently busy preparing for her brand’s spring and summer collection fashion show. After a long period of work, she was very satisfied with the results and called Jin Yan Ting to invite him to the show.
Jin Yan Ting pressed the answer button.
Duan Shiqing was worldly and extremely composed. Her voice was gentle, “Yan Ting, can you make time in March?”
The previously quiet dining room seemed to grow even quieter. Hearing the familiar “Yan Ting,” Lian Li guessed who was on the other end of the line.
She directly stated her request, asking the Jin family heir to make time. The distinction between a girlfriend and a sister was immediately clear.
Jin Yan Ting’s expression remained largely unchanged, his eyelids slightly lowered, maintaining his usual gentle and dignified demeanor. “Is there something?”
“The Milan Fashion Week in March, my work is the finale. I’d like to invite you to watch,” Duan Shiqing’s voice was pleasant, unhurried, and carried the grace of a well-bred lady.
Jin Yan Ting replied, “We’ll talk about it later.”
Lian Li bit her chopsticks, recalling the stack of fashion magazines Meng Yi had left in the dormitory.
She had heard of Duan Shiqing’s brilliant achievements long ago. A renowned genius designer, she won the German Red Dot Design Award at nineteen, making her the youngest recipient of the award. Her designs were not static objects but were lively, captivating like sprites.
Meng Yi would likely wear a wedding dress designed by Duan Shiqing for her wedding, a unique crown wedding dress.
Jin Yan Ting hung up the phone, finished a plate of dumplings, and looked at Lian Li. “Don’t you like the car in the garage?”
After his secretary delivered the Ferrari, Lian Li had never driven it once.
“I like it,” Lian Li said. “But I don’t have time to drive it. I’ll wait until after graduation.”
If she said she didn’t like it, that secretary would probably send a new car.
Jin Yan Ting’s deep gaze fell on Lian Li’s face, his eyes tinged with a rare gentleness.
“What are your concerns about not going to Princeton?”
Lian Li paused at his words and looked up at him.
Professor Lu Huier knew that Lian Li was still uncertain about her future path and had recently been encouraging her to pursue further studies at Princeton University.
“I might have to work,” Lian Li offered a casual excuse.
Jin Yan Ting took a cigarette from his cigarette case. The lighter’s flint wheel made a faint scraping sound as he lit the cigarette, and wisps of smoke curled up, obscuring his face.
Lian Li’s gaze shifted down to the lighter lying alone on the table, a military lighter, just like Jin Shi Yue’s. It was clearly expensive and rare.
“I want to work. Have He Shu arrange it,” Jin Yan Ting said calmly.
He had always been accommodating to her requests.
However, Lian Li shook her head. “I want to take my time to think it through myself.”
The young girl was not impatient. Jin Yan Ting looked at her for a moment and nodded slightly.
After finishing the dumplings, Jin Yan Ting stayed for another half hour before leaving.
Lian Li, meanwhile, packed the trophies one by one into boxes and took them all back to Qing Teng Road.
The next evening, Lian Li received a message from Jin Shi Yue.
God of Wealth Master: 「Will deliver tomorrow」
Lian Li stared at the concise five words, momentarily stunned.
Why didn’t he just say he was delivering breakfast?
Did he omit the word “breakfast”?
