Chapter 64: About To Be Suffocated By Ghost Energy
“Big sister!” A tender child’s voice suddenly rang out. Yao Xianglu’s movement toward her pocket paused, and she instinctively turned her head to look.
A delicate and cute-looking child walked out from behind the flower bed. Nan Yuanman pointed at the takeout in her hand: “I haven’t eaten breakfast yet. Can I buy that bun wrapper from you?”
Yao Xianglu was still dazedly looking at Nan Yuanman, as if she hadn’t reacted yet—how could there suddenly be a child here?
Nan Yuanman’s chubby little hand waved in front of her eyes: “Big sister?”
“Ah…” Yao Xianglu suddenly came back to her senses. She raised her hand to smooth the hair at her temple, straightened the clothes on her body, and after a flurry of busyness, she finally squatted down in front of Nan Yuanman.
Her voice unconsciously softened a bit: “Child, why are you here all by yourself? Where are the adults in your family?”
Nan Yuanman touched her deflated little stomach: “There are no adults in my family anymore.”
Yao Xianglu was surprised: “How could that be?”
Tai Gu Villa Area was the famously wealthy district of S City for rich people. Even if parents weren’t home, there should be servants and a nanny there.
How could there be no adults?
But seeing Nan Yuanman’s thin and small appearance, Yao Xianglu guessed it was probably some wealthy family secret. She sighed, didn’t ask more, and handed over the takeout box in her hand: “No need to pay. Sister will treat you.”
“Thank you, sister! Sister, have you eaten breakfast? If not, let’s eat together!” Nan Yuanman’s round eyes lit up, and she reached out her little hand to grab Yao Xianglu’s slightly cool fingertip.
She led her to sit down beside the flower bed.
Then, before Yao Xianglu could react, with a click, she opened the box and took out a bun to hand to her.
This was the first kindness Yao Xianglu had received since the incident at home.
She stared blankly at the bun the little girl handed over, feeling a slight warmth in her heart. After hesitatingly taking it, she murmured: “Thank you…”
Nan Yuanman took a big bite of the meat bun. The meat bun was just the right size in an adult’s hand, but in the young cub’s hand, it seemed almost as big as her face. This bite only lightly wounded the bun.
The little girl, who only got the bun skin and no filling, still ate it with relish.
Her cheeks were puffed out on both sides, like a little hamster.
Yao Xianglu watched her and, as if possessed, took a bite of the bun too.
The hot bun went down into her stomach, soothing the cold stomach, warming her limbs and entire body a bit, and gradually dispelling the bad thoughts in her mind.
Nan Yuanman didn’t like talking while eating, and neither did Yao Xianglu. The two didn’t exchange much, yet they took turns finishing the buns one by one.
Full and satisfied, Yao Xianglu’s heavy mood improved a bit. She held the bag containing the bun and smiled lightly: “No wonder one bun costs ten bucks. It’s indeed pretty good for the price.”
Nan Yuanman patted her now bulging little stomach and contentedly let out a burp.
“Ding ling ling—!”
The urgent ringing of the telephone shattered this moment of peace. Yao Xianglu picked up her mobile phone, and when she saw the number on the screen, her fingers trembled slightly, her originally bright eyes gradually dimming.
She answered the call: “Hello…”
The female voice on the other end spoke straightforwardly: “Are you a family member of Pang Xiahe? Pang Xiahe just had an emotional outburst and fainted into shock. The situation is not optimistic; she’s currently receiving first aid. Please come over to pay as soon as possible.”
Yao Xianglu shot to her feet and said urgently: “Okay, I’ll come right now.”
She didn’t even hang up the phone before jogging out.
As she ran, the ghost energy on her body grew stronger.
Nan Yuanman hurriedly chased after her with her short legs, panting. Luckily, she had been trained by Grandpa in the countryside; otherwise, with her short legs, she wouldn’t have been able to catch up to Yao Xianglu at all.
Just as Yao Xianglu got on the electric scooter and was about to drive off, she suddenly felt a weight on her back.
Yao Xianglu turned her head and saw the little girl she had eaten breakfast with earlier had somehow hopped on and was sitting behind her.
Yao Xianglu: “?”
“You…”
“Come on, sister, no nagging! Hurry, hurry, hurry—to the hospital, don’t delay.” Nan Yuanman excitedly kicked her legs, grabbed Yao Xianglu’s clothes, and urged her anxiously.
Yao Xianglu had no choice; plus, the hospital was urging urgently. She could only put the helmet on Nan Yuanman’s head and speed toward the hospital on the electric scooter.
Half an hour later.
The electric scooter stopped at S City People’s Hospital.
Yao Xianglu carried Nan Yuanman and staggered toward the first aid room. From afar, she saw a middle-aged man pacing back and forth outside.
Disgust appeared on Yao Xianglu’s face, and she loudly demanded: “What are you doing here? Haven’t you upset my mom enough already?”
The middle-aged man looked honest and mumbled: “Lulu…”
Nan Yuanman’s gaze couldn’t help falling on this middle-aged man. She thought inwardly in surprise: This uncle has ghost energy too! It’s just a bit fainter than the ghost energy on this sister.
The middle-aged man hurriedly said: “I-I didn’t mean to! I just wanted to explain things clearly to your mom. Lin Auntie and I aren’t in the kind of relationship you think.”
“She’s just a new colleague at our unit. Her car broke down, and I was just giving her a ride home! How- how did it turn into me cheating, and her getting so upset she ended up in the hospital?”
“Heh, you didn’t cheat? Then why did you stay downstairs from her place for an hour after dropping her off?” Yao Xianglu sneered.
The middle-aged man stammered: “This… this…”
His hesitant appearance infuriated Yao Xianglu. She tsked and said: “Figure out how to explain that one hour to my mom first, then talk.”
While the two were arguing, the first aid room door opened, and the doctor came out. Yao Xianglu quickly put Nan Yuanman on a bench and went up to talk to the doctor.
Only then did the middle-aged man notice the extra little doll. His eyes widened: “You-you, this child, where did she come from??”
Nan Yuanman blinked her watery eyes and pointed her meaty finger at Yao Xianglu, who was talking to the doctor: “I came with that sister.”
The middle-aged man gaped, pointed at Yao Xianglu, then at Nan Yuanman: “She-you-you’re what to her?”
Nan Yuanman tilted her little head: “Friend?”
She stared at the middle-aged man for a good while, and after he uncomfortably shifted his gaze, she said eerily: “Uncle, some things are better confessed sooner rather than later. The longer you drag it out, the more serious the consequences.”
“What you pay later might be a price you can’t bear.”
Clearly, this was his first time meeting this child, but being stared at by her pure, clear black-and-white eyes, the middle-aged man suddenly felt as if she had seen through all the things he was hiding.
The middle-aged man awkwardly shifted his gaze: “You child, what nonsense are you spouting? I don’t understand.”
Just then, Yao Xianglu’s mother was wheeled out by a nurse.
Upon seeing the woman lying on the hospital bed, Nan Yuanman jumped down from the bench in a flash, hurriedly pulling out the small coffin and running over.
Hurry up—this auntie is about to be suffocated to death by ghost energy!
