Chapter 94: Meeting The Biological Father
The Ghost Gate slowly closed, and the grievance on Lu Weiguo’s mouth dissipated along with it. His bloodshot eyes roared in fury: “Fang Yunfei, you F your mother! What right do you have to curse me! I’ll go to your mom—ow!”
Before he could finish cursing, Nan Yuanman, with a stern little face, smacked the copper coin sword on his mouth: “No dirty words!”
Lu Weiguo glared angrily at Nan Yuanman, pointing at her shakily with his bloodstained hand, mumbling incoherently: “Little bitch—ah!”
Gou Dan didn’t give him a chance to curse out loud. With a dark face, he stomped on his face with one foot and said coldly: “If you don’t want that mouth, then you never will.”
Lu Weiguo only felt a sharp pain in his mouth, plus the pain from his shoulder and tailbone. His eyes rolled back, and he passed out directly.
At that moment, the hospital room door was suddenly rammed open from outside. Feng Yuli rushed in anxiously: “Yuanman!”
When he saw Nan Yuanman standing safe and sound in the hospital room, he let out a heavy sigh of relief in his heart. He strode forward, picked her up, and checked her carefully: “You really scared me to death just now.”
After Nan Yuanman had run into the hospital room earlier, the door suddenly closed, and he couldn’t open it no matter what.
If he hadn’t been afraid of disturbing the nurse and interrupting Nan Yuanman from handling the vengeful ghost, he would have called the bodyguard to crash the door open.
Fortunately, fortunately the door didn’t stay closed too long.
Nan Yuanman nestled obediently in his arms like a cat gripped by the scruff of its neck, patting his chest to comfort him: “Big brother, I’m fine. Yuanman is very capable!”
Feng Yuli touched her soft hair: “Big brother knows, but brother will still worry about you.”
Once he confirmed Nan Yuanman was fine, Feng Yuli noticed the old woman lying on the ground, covered in blood.
Feng Yuli’s arms trembled as he held Nan Yuanman. After a few seconds of silence, he looked up at the only outsider in the room, Lu Xu, and asked Nan Yuanman: “This person… is he dead?”
Lu Xu felt a chill down his spine under his stare, as if targeted by some large beast, not daring to move at all.
Was it his illusion?
Why did he feel… the little Heavenly Master’s brother wanted to kill him?
Nan Yuanman shook her head: “Not dead yet, still breathing.”
“That’s good, I’ll call the doctor now.” Feng Yuli sighed in relief, withdrawing his gaze from Lu Xu. Then he wouldn’t have to kill to silence him.
He stepped forward to press the call button, but Lu Xu was faster and pressed it first: “He’s my grandpa, I’ll handle it, I’ll handle it.”
Before the doctor and nurse arrived, Lu Xu glanced coldly at Lu Weiguo lying unconscious on the ground and hesitantly asked Nan Yuanman: “That… little Heavenly Master, will I have any effects later?”
“Yes, you might be a bit unlucky later.” Nan Yuanman said honestly: “He did evil and suffered backlash. Some of what Uncle Fang endured will feedback to him, and you’re his grandson. With karma from ancestors shading you, you’ll also be somewhat affected by the backlash.”
Lu Xu listened, and after a moment, he showed a bitter smile: “…Being his grandson is already the biggest misfortune of my life.”
Lu Weiguo didn’t like his father, nor did he like him.
The day before his father died of cancer, Lu Weiguo came to him for money to drink, but he refused and got beaten badly.
After Lu Xu’s father passed away, Lu Weiguo, fearing no one would support him in old age, completely leeched onto him.
His scholarships, his salary, all were taken by force. If he didn’t give, Lu Weiguo would go to his school or his part-time job and make a huge scene.
Lu Weiguo was good at using his old age to play pitiful, standing on moral high ground, making uninformed people around him point fingers at him.
Lu Xu originally thought that once he grew up, he could leave this suffocating home, but he didn’t expect that growing up was merely the beginning of the suffering…
Nan Yuanman couldn’t say comforting words, after all, this was the rule of the Heavenly Dao, which didn’t make sense.
She sighed like a little adult and took out a safety talisman to hand to him: “Big brother, things will get better later.”
Lu Xu’s throat bobbed, and he gave her a pale, powerless smile.
It won’t get better.
He looked coldly at Lu Weiguo on the ground, a secret thrill surging in his heart. Since he couldn’t escape, then let them torment each other forever.
Perhaps Fang Yunfei’s backlash had already begun. When Lu Weiguo was lifted onto the bed by the doctor and nurse, quite a few mishaps occurred.
The stretcher inexplicably tipped over, adding injury to his fragile spine. Then, while lying on the cart being wheeled for a CT scan, the cart’s wheels suddenly broke, sending him crashing into the dirty water bucket the janitor had just pushed out, causing a severe infection to the wound on his shoulder.
Lu Xu watched coldly as Lu Weiguo wailed in pain, listening to the doctor’s verdict: “…The old man is advanced in age, bones brittle. This fall broke the lumbar vertebra. Without surgery, it’ll be hard for him to stand again…”
Lu Weiguo gripped the bed rails tightly, shouting in alarm at Lu Xu: “Operate! I want surgery! Lu Xu! Pay up quick for my treatment!”
Lu Xu pulled a smile at him and said to the doctor: “Doctor, we’re not treating anymore. The old man is too old, surgery would damage his body too much. I’ll take him home for conservative treatment first.”
Lu Weiguo: “!!!”
–
Nan Yuanman didn’t pay attention to Lu Weiguo’s follow-up. She lay listlessly in Feng Yuli’s arms as he carried her toward Feng Congqian’s hospital room.
Gou Dan keenly noticed something off with Nan Yuanman’s mood. He floated to her side and called softly: “Yuanman, Yuanman? Are you unhappy?”
Nan Yuanman’s little chin rested on Feng Yuli’s broad shoulder, staring blankly ahead, murmuring dispiritedly: “Gou Dan, Yuanman is a bad child.”
Grandpa hoped she would be a kind good child, but just now she wanted Lu Weiguo to die directly. Her thoughts were simply too vicious.
Nan Yuanman pouted, tears swirling in her eyes.
She had become a bad child.
If Grandpa knew, he would definitely be disappointed in her.
Seeing the tears in the little dumpling’s eyes, the man felt especially heartbroken. He sighed softly and gently held Nan Yuanman’s hand, his voice firm and gentle: “Yuanman isn’t bad at all. Yuanman is a very good, very kind child.”
“I’m not good at all.” Nan Yuanman said tearfully in a tiny voice: “Just now… I didn’t stop Uncle Fang from hitting Lu Weiguo.”
“That’s normal.” Gou Dan’s voice was clear and calm: “I didn’t want to stop Fang Yunfei from killing Lu Weiguo either. I even think his revenge is completely justified.”
Nan Yuanman’s eyes lit up, looking at Gou Dan as if she’d found a kindred spirit, though her watery eyes held some confusion: “Grandpa said the same, karma cycles, Uncle Fang’s revenge has no issue. But usually, when Grandpa encounters this, he stops Uncle Fang.”
“Why is that?” She tilted her head, very puzzled: “Killing the enemy isn’t the best, most direct way of revenge?”
It could also most directly dispel the vengeful ghost’s grievance.
Old Master Nan had left too suddenly. He hadn’t had time to break down all the rules to follow as a coffin maker and the truths of life for Nan Yuanman.
So when the little girl encountered this kind of thing, she couldn’t quite figure it out.
Gou Dan was also stumped by Nan Yuanman’s question. After all, he wasn’t a Heavenly Master and couldn’t know the rules Heavenly Masters had to follow. Just now… he simply felt that Fang Yunfei risking his next life for a dying old man wasn’t worth it.
“I can’t resolve your doubts, Yuanman.” Gou Dan pursed his lips apologetically: “Perhaps later you can ask someone in the same line of work.”
“But I think… for this kind of thing, just follow your heart.”
Nan Yuanman stared at him blankly: “Follow your heart?”
“Yes.” Gou Dan nodded firmly: “Do what you should do. Leave all choices and consequences to them to decide.”
“The good or bad karma afterward is for them to choose themselves. You just need to have a clear conscience.”
The little girl listened in a daze. Gou Dan sighed lightly in his heart and reached out to gently ruffle her hair: “It’s okay if you don’t understand. You just need to know Yuanman isn’t a bad child.”
Nan Yuanman mumbled a muffled “mm” and stayed silent all the way to Feng Congqian’s hospital room.
“We’re here.” Feng Yuli looked nervously at the little girl in his arms and pushed the door with his hand.
At the moment the door was about to open, the black-red threads on Gou Dan suddenly surged, rapidly spreading over his soul body and yanking him quickly toward the inside of the door.
Gou Dan: “!!”
Nan Yuanman: “!!”
