Lovecraftian World, But I Spread Curses – Chapter 15

Spreading Blessings Across The World

Chapter 15: Spreading Blessings Across The World

In the constant pulling and tugging, Yu Lianyun, trapped in the hallucination created by the woman in white, was also engaged in her own struggle.

She was searching for the corpse bones of the woman in white in the cold dark well water, her hands constantly groping downward and to the surroundings, the well water much deeper than she had anticipated; if she couldn’t touch bottom, she could only keep diving down.

However, Yu Lianyun was gradually becoming exhausted; after all, she was just an ordinary human, and her swimming ability was not outstanding.

Feeling unable to breathe, she wanted to float up, but discovered a powerful resistance blocking her. Looking up, she then saw the woman in white floating above her, with blood-red eye sockets, a deathly pale face, and slender hands tightly gripping her neck, not letting her float up to breathe.

The more fiercely Yu Lianyun struggled, the tighter the woman in white gripped her throat, and gradually, Yu Lianyun’s consciousness blurred.

On the verge of death, Yu Lianyun’s strong inspiration erupted again, and she once more saw the memories of the woman in white.

But this time was different; the memories Yu Lianyun saw were slightly different from the video content she had seen before, starting from the woman in white’s childhood. It was also the first time she learned the woman in white’s real name: Yao Zhenzhen.

Yao Zhenzhen’s parents divorced when she was young, and she grew up living with her father. Her father’s attitude toward her was neither warm nor cold; he never remarried. He raised her to adulthood as if completing a life mission game, then hanged himself at home as if fulfilling an obligation.

Ever since her parents’ divorce, Yao Zhenzhen had never felt family affection again. For her, the feeling of family affection remained in her memories from when she was six years old—simple yet warm. When she did something good, her parents would smile and praise her; when she got good grades at school, they would caress her head; if she made a mistake, they would reluctantly pretend to be stern and give her a small punishment… Even a scolding from her parents at that time felt warm.

After losing her father, Yao Zhenzhen always missed her mother, whom she hadn’t seen for over a decade, longing for the taste of family affection. After her father’s death, she resolutely set out on a journey to find her mother.

After more than a year of searching, she finally found that face from her memories. But she discovered she lacked the courage to acknowledge her, because her mother had formed a new family and seemed to be living happily. Moreover, her mother appeared to have forgotten she had such a daughter and couldn’t recognize her at first glance.

Yao Zhenzhen felt envious of her mother’s new family. She hoped to be closer to her mother in the future, so she moved next door to her mother’s residence.

However, Yao Zhenzhen didn’t expect the situation to develop in a way she had never imagined.

Posing as a new neighbor, she visited the left and right neighbors. When she nervously visited her mother’s current home, her mother’s current husband and her son suddenly seemed bewitched, captivated by her beauty.

At first, her mother treated her very warmly, but starting from a certain day a week later, her mother began to look at her with unkind gazes and occasionally mutter foul language like “prostitute” and “shameless,” which once hurt Yao Zhenzhen deeply. But she could somewhat guess the reason for her mother’s change in attitude.

Because during this period, she had noticed the neighbor father and son’s peeping behavior toward her and discovered their actions were gradually becoming pathological.

One night, she faintly heard her mother quarreling with the two men in the house, seemingly disputing over a woman, and she knew that woman was herself.

Yao Zhenzhen felt surprised and self-blame inwardly, but though frustrated, deep in her heart she felt a strange joy about it.

When her mother directed veiled curses at her, she would recall her childhood, when her mother criticized her after she made a mistake. She actually felt long-lost family affection from such foul language.

Therefore, even as her mother’s attitude toward this “neighbor” grew increasingly rude and escalated from verbal attacks to physical conflicts, she had no desire to leave and didn’t feel her mother was wrong in any way.

It wasn’t until one day she personally witnessed her mother crushed to death under car wheels, saw the fruit knife in her mother’s hand, the deformed and twisted corpse, and that face dead with eyes wide open in death, that she finally realized her mistake. When she couldn’t help but sorrowfully shout “Mom” at the corpse, in her daze she actually saw her mother’s lifeless corpse twitch eerily, then her angrily opened eyes shed two streams of blood tears.

After her mother’s death, Yao Zhenzhen was heartbroken and cried alone beside an abandoned stone deep well in the village town.

By then, every household had water pipes and water taps installed; no one wanted to bother going to the well to fetch water laboriously or maintain it. Thus, the woods where the deep well was located became a secluded spot long neglected by anyone, perfect for a heartbroken person to vent their sadness.

However, what Yao Zhenzhen didn’t expect was still to come.

The neighbor father and son’s hearts had long been twisted and ugly beyond measure. Her mother’s death was fundamentally caused by their improper thoughts and behavior, leading to this tragedy. After seeing her mother’s death, they suddenly seemed “enlightened”—not only did they not feel extreme remorse for their actions, but they instead pushed all the responsibility onto Yao Zhenzhen, believing her to be a witch who had seduced their souls.

Thus, that day when Yao Zhenzhen was crying alone by the well, completely defenseless, the father and son who had been tailing her suddenly jumped out from the darkness, lunged violently, and together beat her to death into the deep well, then sealed her escape route with cement.

In such circumstances, sealed under the deep well and dying in loneliness and fear, Yao Zhenzhen harbored immense hatred and resentment toward humans and the world. With the involvement of some unknown power, her negative emotions transformed into a terrifying curse, which resided in the popular video tapes of that era. The overwhelming resentment targeted viewers through watching the video, concentrating and erupting…

“In this matter, you weren’t the wrong one. You must resent it so much, must be in so much pain…” In reality, Yu Lianyun floated up from the water, pushed away the faceless woman’s no-longer-forceful hand, and embraced her. “It’s okay, you have the right to do this.”

Yu Lianyun felt the thing in her arms rotting and collapsing, but this time she felt no fear at all. She paused slightly, then gently said, “It’s fine. From now on, you don’t have to be lonely in this dark, sunless deep well. Go to the surface and hate the whole world to your heart’s content.”

Yu Lianyun caressed the angular dry bones; Yao Zhenzhen’s corpse bones were tranquil and serene.

But the next moment, a blast of cold black wind surged from underwater, forming an upward airflow that broke through the ceiling and shot into the full moon night sky.

Thunder boomed from beyond the sky, with faint screams of a female demon echoing through the clouds.

Seeing this scene, He Jia’an’s heart trembled, a bad premonition surging in his mind.

After Yu Lianyun brought Yao Zhenzhen’s corpse bones back to the ground, He Jia’an couldn’t help grabbing her collar and loudly demanding, “What exactly did you do!?”

“It’s fine, please don’t worry.” Yu Lianyun said softly, “I just sprinkled blessings all over the world…”
