Chapter 38: He Tu’s Four Heavenly Kings
Around eight in the morning, Chen Wujun was circling nonstop around the equilateral triangle drawn on the floor of the martial arts school, keeping his feet flat like treading mud, stepping on each vertex of the triangle with every step.
The door of the martial arts school was pushed open, but Chen Wujun didn’t even look, his thoughts all on martial arts practice.
With Senior Brother Li there, he wasn’t worried about safety issues either.
Until a familiar voice came:
“Master Li, thank you so much for always taking care of Jun Zai!”
Chen Wujun stopped and turned to look, seeing his own old man Chen Hanliang, who was carrying a bunch of fruit in his hand.
“Dad, why are you here?” Chen Wujun was a bit puzzled.
“The master takes such good care of you, of course I have to come thank him!” Chen Hanliang straightened his back and said.
“You guys chat!” Senior Brother Li picked up the fruit and left.
“Also, you haven’t been home these past few days, your mom is very worried about you. The Walled City has been very chaotic lately, I heard those gangs are fighting again, a lot of people have died, Long Jin Street is full of blood!”
“I’ve heard about it too, they’re fighting pretty fiercely!” Chen Wujun said as if it had nothing to do with him.
“So your mom asked me to come check on you, and don’t run around lately! If you encounter those gang people, stay far away! After all, when they fight, knives have no eyes…” Chen Hanliang instructed.
“Cough, cough cough!”
Chen Wujun glanced to the side and saw Senior Brother Li turning his head, his face twitching.
“Got it!”
“Also, are you coming home for dinner tonight?”
“The martial arts school has some things tonight, I’ll go back for dinner tomorrow!” Chen Wujun said.
Going to a meeting in the afternoon, not sure when he’ll be back.
“Then I’ll tell your mom! I won’t disturb you anymore, be careful and stay safe!” Chen Hanliang said as he walked out.
After Chen Hanliang left, Chen Wujun sat to the side to rest.
“It’s nice to have someone who cares!” Senior Brother Li said with a bit of envy.
Chen Wujun turned to look at him; he actually didn’t know Senior Brother Li’s situation.
But Senior Brother Li just sighed once and said no more.
After lunch, Chen Wujun went home and changed clothes: black pants, sapphire blue shirt, looked in the mirror for a long time, unbuttoned the top two buttons of the shirt, and rolled up the cuffs two turns.
He also took a comb and combed his hair up a few times, then nodded in satisfaction and headed to Jin Di Finance.
On the way, he also called Ah Fei and Curry.
“Jun Zai is here!” Ji Xiang saw Chen Wujun and was still so enthusiastic.
“Brother Ji Xiang! Enjoying the air conditioning here… so comfortable!” Chen Wujun greeted with a smile while glancing at his henchmen.
Sure enough, those people’s gazes were much more normal, without the contempt from last time.
But their gazes were still full of scrutiny.
“A Jun!” Ji Xiang’s henchmen greeted with smiles on their faces, though their eyes were full of scrutiny.
Chen Wujun nodded with a smile and turned to Ji Xiang: “I have an appointment with Sister Sha Jiu!”
Then he turned and went to Sister Sha Jiu’s office.
Ji Xiang watched Chen Wujun’s back disappear behind the office door, taking a long time to withdraw his gaze, then glanced at his own henchmen: “What are you all looking at? Don’t you have work to do?”
“Sister Sha Jiu!”
“Time’s about right, talk on the way.” Sister Sha Jiu glanced at her watch and stood up.
The two went out the door, and Ah Fei and Curry followed.
“Sister Sha Jiu! Brother Jun!”
The group headed straight to the southern part of the Walled City.
“This is the old Walled City area, everything north of Long Jin Road was built later…” Sister Sha Jiu said while looking around as they walked.
Chen Wujun nodded; he knew this too.
It’s said the earliest Walled City was just this area, so the buildings here are even more dilapidated.
They arrived at the Walled City Welfare Association behind Tian Hou Temple and entered through the back door, seeing many muscular young men standing in the corridor.
“Sister Sha Jiu!” These young men greeted her upon seeing her, then scrutinized the people behind her, finally fixing their gazes on Chen Wujun.
Chen Wujun calmly sized up these people and followed Sister Sha Jiu into the meeting room, where there was a round table.
“Sister Sha Jiu!” A man in his thirties, wearing an orange suit, looking a bit thin, had his feet propped on the table smoking; he raised his hand upon seeing her.
“Guan Lao San, you’re here so early, that’s not like you!” Sister Sha Jiu pulled out a chair diagonally across from him and sat down.
“The Walled City is fighting every day, who knows when the flames of war will burn to me; I haven’t been able to get it up with women these past few days, of course I had to come early.” Guan Lao San slouched in his chair, feet on the table, even thrusting his hips up a few times, making his posture very odd.
“Don’t you sell medicine? Not working well?” Sister Sha Jiu said casually.
“The doctor won’t let me use it lately!” Guan Lao San pouted, a bit annoyed.
Chen Wujun stood against the wall behind Sister Sha Jiu, his gaze sizing up Guan Lao San and the people behind him.
It’s said all the aphrodisiacs in the entire Walled City are Guan Lao San’s, and there’s a not-small market outside the Walled City too, with better effects than on the market.
Of course, it’s said the heart can’t take it after eating them, and people often die from it.
Even so, Guan Lao San’s business is very good.
With over ten thousand people in the Walled City, plus the market outside, Guan Lao San makes a fortune every month just selling aphrodisiacs.
“Guan Lao San, Sister Sha Jiu! You’re both here so early! Good thing I’m not the last one.” A chubby short man around forty, with a smiling face, walked in.
“Gao Lao, you look so good, seems business has been good lately!” Guan Lao San casually raised his hand in greeting.
“All thanks to the brothers and jianghu friends taking care of me!” Gao Lao said with a smile.
Though called Gao Lao, his height was under 1.6 meters.
Chen Wujun had also heard Sister Sha Jiu and others mention him: don’t let the smiling face fool you, he’s the most sinister and vicious; it’s said he has quite a few killers under him.
People outside also come to him to handle trouble.
Right now, a baby-faced youth followed behind him, smiling just like him at everyone.
Chen Wujun sized everyone up, then stood there bored, picking at his fingernails while perking up his ears to listen to the others talk.
The last to arrive was the Elephant that Chen Wujun had seen before, two meters one tall, his whole body exuding explosive power; ordinary people would be intimidated standing before him.
“Xin Ye hasn’t come yet?”
“Doesn’t the big boss always arrive last?” Guan Lao San leaned his head back on the chair, with only the back two legs on the ground, the front two lifted.
“Sister Sha Jiu, I heard you’ve had big losses lately, need help?” Elephant turned to Sister Sha Jiu after sitting down.
“Next time, come earlier next time!” Sister Sha Jiu said offhandedly.
Get Elephant to help… he’d just come to pick up scraps and share benefits?
“I called you that day, but couldn’t get through.” Elephant said, his gaze falling on Chen Wujun behind Sister Sha Jiu.
“Heard you fought Wen Long over a new henchman? The one behind? Looks pretty average!”
Chen Wujun looked up at Elephant, then at the two behind him, both over 1.9 meters tall, equally muscled.
Chen Wujun was now very familiar with the rules of this underworld.
When out doing business, you can’t show weakness; if others look down on you, you have to strike back.
So while picking at his nail crevices, he said slowly:
“From now on, when there’s trouble, we can just compare who’s taller!”
“Sister Sha Jiu, you haven’t taught him? Who does he think he is to speak here?” Elephant didn’t even look at Chen Wujun.
“Elephant, he’s not wrong! From now on when there’s trouble, just compare heights, no need to fight.” Guan Lao San chuckled from the side.
“That’s fine then, when there’s trouble, Elephant just stands there and Li Dong’s people will have to go around!” Sister Sha Jiu also spoke sarcastically.
Elephant snorted coldly and leaned back in his chair.
He was too lazy to argue with Sister Sha Jiu’s henchman.
But Elephant’s henchmen now looked at Chen Wujun with hostile gazes.
The door opened again; first five or six intimidating young men came in, followed by a man about 1.8 meters tall, sturdy build, wearing suit pants, vest, and shirt, looking over fifty, who walked to the head seat while smiling:
“Everyone’s here!”
“All of you look radiant, seems you’ve all been doing well lately.”
“Xin Ye!” Everyone stood up one after another.
After Xin Ye sat, the others sat down too.
“Lao San, thanks for the medicine you sent, lately I’ve been adding some to my soups every day!” Xin Ye started with small talk.
“Then I’ll have someone send more next time!”
“Xin Ye is still vigorous in old age!” Gao Lao laughed.
“Don’t misunderstand, it’s not the medicine Lao San sells, it’s for healing and toning the body; you all know my situation.” Xin Ye smiled.
“Elephant, I heard your boxing matches are a big hit, even big customers from outside the Walled City come to gamble.”
“Of course, my boxing matches are the most explosive!” Elephant said directly.
Xin Ye then turned his gaze to Sister Sha Jiu and Gao Lao, chatting a few words with each.
Only then did he get to the main topic.
“He Tu and Li Dong have maintained an understanding for years now; this time Sister Sha Jiu and Wen Long broke the order! Sister Sha Jiu, tell us about it.”
“He touched my people, so I touched his! Otherwise, would he think my words are farts?” Sister Sha Jiu spread her hands.
“No matter what, you broke the order.” Xin Ye said directly:
“Things have gotten big now; if it continues, both sides will go to full war, and the losses will be too great. What do you say we do to resolve it?” Xin Ye looked at the others.
“If they want to fight, let them fight!” Elephant grinned, his face showing some anticipation and bloodthirstiness.
“Since it’s caused by Sister Sha Jiu’s new henchman, hand the person over and it’s resolved; eat and sleep as usual, and I can finally sleep well!” Guan Lao San said playfully.
Chen Wujun’s eyes flashed with ferocity as he glanced at Guan Lao San.
Sister Sha Jiu spoke directly: “Guan Lao San, you like handing people over so much, hand over your mom then!”
“My mom didn’t chop Li Dong’s people, they wouldn’t want her! And… Sister Sha Jiu, with so many little brothers here, give me some face when you talk!” Guan Lao San wasn’t angry, just chuckled.
Then Guan Lao San changed his tone:
“Since Sister Sha Jiu won’t hand him over, what opinion can I have? We’ll see what Xin Ye says!”
Gao Lao had been watching the others speak the whole time, and only after they finished said: “I don’t have any opinion either, listen to Xin Ye. If Xin Ye says fight, we fight; if talk, we talk.”
