Chapter 84: Test
“Special Task Department, how much do you know?”
Seeing Chen Wujun shake his head, Snake Aunt continued:
“This department mainly captures martial artist criminals, but there aren’t that many foreign criminals. Usually, they just keep an eye on us. They have five teams in North Port total, each team has eight people, and Harris is the team leader of team three.”
“He should be 42 to 43 years old this year, reinforced reconstruction around 80%… mutation ability has been confirmed: super speed.”
“His speed is one and a half times that of a new technique master at the same level, which should be twice your speed.”
“You should know what that means… kung fu off by a hair, and it’s worlds apart, the gap is enormous. Not to mention his speed is twice yours.”
“He’s been in the Special Task Department for 20 years, his combat experience won’t be less than yours, only more.”
“Old technique masters who died by his hand aren’t just one or two.”
Snake Aunt looked at Chen Wujun, examining his expression with great interest.
As Snake Aunt spoke, Chen Wujun’s eyelids twitched.
If it were someone else hearing this news, they’d be panicked already, but Chen Wujun has always had a big heart, his eyelids just twitched, and he began pondering nonstop in his mind.
Just as Snake Aunt said, kung fu off by a hair, and it’s worlds apart.
Not to mention the opponent’s speed is one time faster than his own; when they clash, the gap is too big.
While the two were talking, the room door was knocked on, then a dark-skinned Hindustan waiter pushed the door open and brought in two portions of lentil crepes, two portions of onion salad, and four portions of condiments.
Snake Aunt used a spoon to spread onion salad on the crepe, then added condiment, and took a crunchy bite.
She then continued: “Three years ago, there was a smuggled-in master who was just one step from transformation realm, wanted to eat a big meal here, but ended up done in by him.”
Big meal means doing big lucrative things, big profit, big risk, generally referring to robbery.
“But that guy was also greedy, robbed three times in a month, and got tracked by him.”
Chen Wujun mimicked Snake Aunt eating the crepe while subconsciously thinking: if doing mobile crimes, do it once then vanish, hide for a while before coming out to live it up, it’d be hard to catch.
Doing crimes continuously in a short time, the risk is indeed very high.
Chen Wujun took a bite of the crepe; the crepe itself was crispy with a bit of sweetness, but after adding onion and condiment, the taste was weird.
Especially that sour spicy sauce, which had mint in it.
“Any other intel?” Chen Wujun asked after taking a bite and setting it down.
“I have intel on a few shops he likes to go to, and some rough areas he frequents; I’ll give them to you later. That’s all there is; Special Task Department people are hard to investigate, and I don’t want to mess with them.” Snake Aunt said.
“I owe you a favor. But there might be some things later that need Sister Snake’s help.” Chen Wujun said.
This kind of news can’t be gotten with just some money.
“You’ve called me Sister Snake, how could I not help you? Of course, I won’t show up, and I won’t go against Special Task Department people.” Snake Aunt smiled.
“I understand.” Chen Wujun nodded; of course he didn’t need Snake Aunt to show up and help.
This was his own business, and he needed to handle it himself.
Since the opponent has super speed… then find a way to restrict his speed… and activity range.
Chen Wujun already had some rough ideas in mind; one-on-one, he might still have an opportunity.
For example… those oil-smeared stakes from the morning, if the bottom were all blades… even with speed advantage, he couldn’t use it.
The only issue is, how to lure him into such a place.
Also… the gun in his hand.
“Special Task Department… how many bullets do they usually carry on missions?” Chen Wujun asked.
“Six in the gun, plus a quick magazine. 12 bullets are enough for them, not to mention they rarely need to use guns most of the time.” Snake Aunt said.
After eating, Chen Wujun bid farewell to Snake Aunt and returned to the warehouse.
‘Wanting to lure him to a certain place… not impossible! As long as he gets a lead on some case. Even without a case, can create a case for him to investigate…’
‘Then set up an environment where I have absolute advantage…’
‘Need some time to prepare, and use this time to settle myself.’
By the time he returned to the warehouse, he had a complete plan in mind.
Just missing a detailed plan.
Plan needs time, preparation needs time; these days can also sort out other matters.
Back at the warehouse, Chen Wujun set aside the matter of Harris and focused on walking the oil-smeared wooden stake.
Until evening, when he went to the gambling den, which was filled with smoke and fairly lively.
This gambling den on Long Jin Road was the best business in Chen Wujun’s hands.
The other two gambling dens’ business was much worse.
“Brother Jun!”
“Plan this: give every player who comes 100 bucks in chips. Give cash directly, poach customers from other gambling dens. Have someone figure out the specific rules.” Chen Wujun said to Ah Fei as he walked.
“Got it, Brother Jun.” Ah Fei nodded.
In the back room, after sitting down, they started talking about the game consoles.
“I asked around; Street Fighter 2 PCB boards are sold by a company called Heavenly Bird Enterprise, one board costs 50,000, they’re basically robbing. In District 11, Street Fighter 2 boards are only 20,000… but this board is the hottest this year, impossible to get without connections, so that company dares to price it so high.”
“Then besides the PCB board, you need the machines to play the games; they bundle sell them, comes out to 70,000 per machine.”
“What’s Heavenly Bird’s relationship with Luoyue People Gang?” Chen Wujun’s mind stirred.
Gao Lao is currently collecting from Heavenly Bird, not sure how it’s going.
If Heavenly Bird Enterprise is backed by Luoyue People… maybe can contact Gao Lao’s people.
“Should be no relation, just happens to have that name. Heavenly Bird Enterprise is backed by those Yamato people.” Ah Fei explained.
“Then I asked about pirated ones; one board just 8,000 bucks, has some minor glitches, sometimes freezes, but they have no other place to play.”
“Machines can buy used from other arcades, 7 or 8,000 bucks can get one.”
“Who’s selling the pirated ones?”
“Brother Jun, it’s that gang you bought the car from. They have some ties to Yamato people; those water cars, I heard a lot are stolen cars from District 11, shipped here and sold as water cars.”
“Brother Jun, the agreed delivery time is tomorrow, can ask then.”
Chen Wujun nodded slightly.
“What’s the deal with that teacher?”
“City University finance top student, said to be a writer too; her family is from Walled City, and her cousin is one of our henchmen, called Xiang Zai.”
“Happened to have a car accident recently, nothing to do. I offered her 100 bucks per hour.”
“She’s home now; Brother Jun want to go see? She has trouble moving. If not suitable, I’ll find another.”
“Then let’s go see.” Chen Wujun said.
“Brother Jun, I’ll go call someone first.”
Moments later, Ah Fei brought back a young man, around 20, thick brows small eyes, solid muscles, traces of practicing new technique, but low strength, probably just induction stage, reconstruction reinforcement magnetic field under 25%.
“Brother Jun, I’m Ah Xiang, you can call me Xiang Zai.” The youth’s face was full of admiring smiles.
“That’s my cousin; I’ve been close to her since childhood, told her and she agreed right away.”
“Xiang Zai… not bad.” Chen Wujun smiled. “Work hard, those willing to work have opportunities.”
He figured that top student agreed probably due to this Ah Xiang.
Otherwise normal people wouldn’t dare teach someone like him.
“Thanks Brother Jun!” Ah Xiang grinned ear to ear at the praise.
“Brother Jun, just in the Wanli Building ahead.”
The three arrived at the third floor of a building; the corridor was lined with iron gates, each door behind like pigeon cages.
“Uncle San, open up.” Ah Xiang knocked loudly.
Moments later the inner door opened; a gray-haired man wearing glasses opened the door, his gaze landing straight on Chen Wujun.
Though young, he felt like a fierce tiger.
The man subconsciously glanced at Ah Xiang.
“Don’t worry, Uncle San, this is Brother Jun, good guy.” Ah Xiang patted his chest guaranteeing.
Chen Wujun didn’t go to gambling dens often, didn’t beat or scold henchmen, no bad habits heard of, and had prestige.
Younger than him too.
He actually thought Chen Wujun was decent; if he caught his eye, he could climb up later.
Uncle San opened the door and stepped aside, still a bit uneasy inside.
Chen Wujun entered the room, saw it was smaller and dirtier than his own home.
His home at least had windows facing outside Walled City; here the windows faced the corridor, always filled with stench.
And by the sofa on one side, a woman with a splint on her leg, wearing glasses, struggled to stand.
Not old, around early 20s, skinny, he could fling her against the wall with one finger; plain looks, big forehead.
“Qi Sis, this is Brother Jun!”
“Brother Jun, call me Sis Ah Qi.”
“Hello…” Ah Qi sized up Chen Wujun, feeling a bit odd inside.
The other seemed very young, but her mischief-making cousin since childhood respected him so much…
And he gave her an extremely dangerous feeling.
Facing him felt like encountering a fierce tiger-like beast, instinctively fearful.
“Alright, no need for more talk, find a spot to stay.” Chen Wujun said to Ah Xiang. “If you two have nothing, go smoke outside.”
He didn’t like people knowing his education level.
He had face too.
“Sit and talk; standing like that is hard for you, how to talk standing there?” Chen Wujun said to Ah Qi.
He’d taken over as host right upon entering.
“What do you want to learn?” Ah Qi sat and thought before asking.
“Learn everything… but first answer me one question.” Chen Wujun asked.
“Ask away.” Ah Qi thought Chen Wujun was testing her level, found it amusing.
“I want to open an arcade; one machine costs 15,000 total, 10 machines total, 2 bucks per play… how much can I earn a month, how long to recoup costs?”
Chen Wujun sat pondering as he spoke.
“Ah?” Ah Qi was a bit stunned.
