Chapter 113:
Meng Shuyou’s cheeks felt hot, and she changed the subject, “Hurry up and tell me what it is.”
“Oh, I originally wanted to ask what illustration homework the teacher assigned last week, but no need now. I just asked other classmates.”
“Okay.”
“When are you coming back to school? It’s Halloween today, there’s an event tonight, don’t forget.”
“I’ll go back this afternoon.”
Winnie twirled the stylus pen in her hand, “Alright, then I’ll hang up. I need to rush my draft first.”
“Mm.”
Meng Shuyou put down her mobile phone and went downstairs for breakfast.
Pei Yuzhou was sitting at the dining table waiting for her.
A large bouquet of roses was on the table, wrapped with colorful candy.
Meng Shuyou walked closer, the rich floral fragrance entering her nose, “So beautiful.”
Pei Yuzhou looked up and gestured with his eyes, “Yours.”
Meng Shuyou curved her lips, “Thank you, Mister Pei.”
No girl wouldn’t like such exquisitely packaged candy bouquet.
She was just about to pick up the flowers when she suddenly noticed a silver necklace hanging on one of the roses. The candy pendant inlaid with a pink diamond refracted crystalline fire colors, with finely cut diamond, and color and clarity both perfect.
“This…”
Pei Yuzhou stood up, took the necklace, and looped it around her neck with both hands, “Try it on.”
Meng Shuyou held the gemstone pendant, the pad of her finger feeling its slight coolness, “Why give me a necklace?”
Pei Yuzhou countered instead of answering, “Don’t like it?”
“I like it, but…”
Before Meng Shuyou could finish, he interrupted, “If you like it, there’s no but.”
With the necklace clasped, Pei Yuzhou gently pulled out the hair trapped beneath it and looked her over carefully, “Very pretty.”
Meng Shuyou looked down at her chest, “It is very pretty.”
Pei Yuzhou corrected, “I wasn’t talking about the necklace.”
Meng Shuyou was stunned for a moment, then looked up, her gaze meeting his, her heart skipping a beat.
She couldn’t describe what budding feelings were sprouting in her heart.
Pei Yuzhou pinched her cheek, “Eat breakfast.”
Meng Shuyou came back to herself, her eyelids drooping, “Oh.”
–
Afternoon.
Pei Yuzhou dropped her off at school and then went to the airport to return to New York to handle group affairs.
Meng Shuyou carried the flowers back to the dormitory, found a pair of scissors to trim the branches and leaves slightly, and inserted them into a vase.
The school had a Halloween event in the evening, with a cosplay evening party every year, preparing various game segments for everyone to party.
The student council was great at creating fun, always with new tricks.
The hall in the academic building was already decorated, with ghost puppets, skeleton frames, pumpkin monsters… everywhere, the holiday atmosphere thick.
At six in the evening, Winnie and Mia each carried a makeup bag to find Meng Shuyou to do makeup together. The three of them had agreed to do devil angel makeup today, and had bought matching outfits online in advance.
Single dorm room, not much space, they had to squeeze in.
Meng Shuyou cleared the desk to set out the cosmetics.
Winnie noticed the pendant on her neck, “Yaoyao, did you buy a new necklace? The gemstone is blinding my eyes.”
Meng Shuyou moved a stool to the table edge, “Mister Pei gave it to me.”
Mia pointed at the vase on the windowsill, “And these flowers too, from him, right?”
Meng Shuyou nodded, “Mm.”
“Gifting on Halloween, and such an expensive pink diamond.” Winnie laughed: “Didn’t expect it, Mister Pei is quite romantic.”
Mia was more direct, “What’s the situation between you two now? You seem to have good feelings, but not like a normal boyfriend and girlfriend.”
Who calls their boyfriend “Mister” when dating.
Though, being with someone of vastly different status might create some distance.
Meng Shuyou was silent for a moment, “I haven’t thought that much, but I know we can’t go on long-term. Maybe once the novelty wears off, we’ll break up.”
She didn’t know when that day would come.
Pei Yuzhou had helped her a lot, she was very grateful, and had to admit she wasn’t entirely unmoved by him. If digging deeper, this feeling probably stemmed from physical attraction.
Setting other things aside, in bed, they were very compatible.
Mia could understand, “Yaoyao, thinking that way is pretty good. People should enjoy the present, no matter what happens later. Being happy now is what matters most.”
But Winnie felt that feelings weren’t something you could just let go of. Once you fall in love, breaking up isn’t that easy, especially for girls, who are mostly more emotional.
