Chapter 122:
–
The dinner party ended, and the Old Master and his group left the private room.
Jenny had already been waiting outside in the corridor for a while. “Grandfather, I’m here to pick you up and take you back.”
She gracefully greeted the elders, then walked up to Pei Yuzhou, took out the gift from her bag, “Mister Pei, happy birthday.”
Inside the box was a watch she had carefully selected, knowing he had high standards, so she had put in quite some effort.
Pei Yuzhou reached out to take it, his tone indifferent. “Thanks.”
Jenny smiled lightly. “You’re welcome. You gave me a gift on my birthday before too.”
Pei Yuzhou actually had no impression of it and didn’t even know what he had sent. He had just instructed Mark to pick out a suitable gift for a girl and send it over.
“Jenny is so filial and thoughtful. Whoever marries her in the future will truly be fortunate.”
“Yeah, if I had such an obedient granddaughter, I don’t know how happy I’d be.”
Listening to their praises, Jenny said shyly, “Grandpa, don’t tease me.”
Pei Yuzhou spoke up at the right moment. “I’ve arranged a car at the club to take everyone back.”
The group took the elevator downstairs.
Several business cars were parked at the club doorway, and the driver opened the car door, waiting to the side.
Pei Yuzhou helped the Old Master into the car and instructed, “Rest well when you get back, take care of your health.”
“I know, I’m not a kid.” The Old Master pretended to be annoyed. “Why aren’t you leaving yet?”
“Friends upstairs set up a gathering, I’m heading over.”
“Alright, you go ahead.”
Pei Yuzhou closed the car door, and the business car slowly drove away.
He turned and went back into the club.
“Mister.” Mark hurried over from behind in big strides.
Pei Yuzhou turned his face back. “Is everything handled?”
“Yeah.” Mark asked, “Did Miss Meng come looking for you?”
Pei Yuzhou stopped. “She came?”
Mark relayed, “She called you, and since you didn’t pick up, I told her you were at the club.”
Pei Yuzhou’s brows furrowed. “When?”
“A little after eight.”
“Give me your phone.”
Mark reached into his pocket and handed over the phone.
Pei Yuzhou directly dialed Meng Shuyou’s number.
It rang for over ten seconds before it connected.
“Where are you?” he asked.
Meng Shuyou thought she was drunk. It clearly showed Mark calling, but the voice she heard was Pei Yuzhou’s.
Pei Yuzhou spoke again. “Why aren’t you talking?”
Meng Shuyou finally spoke. “Mister Pei? Why is it you?”
Her voice was soft and warm, even more cloying than usual due to the alcohol.
Pei Yuzhou heard music on her end, along with the noise of others talking. “You’re at a bar?”
Meng Shuyou held up her phone and looked around. “How did you know?”
Pei Yuzhou didn’t answer. “Send me your location.”
“Oh, alright.” Meng Shuyou obediently did so, hung up the call, and sent the location.
Pei Yuzhou opened it and glanced at it. The location was very close by. “Tell the driver to bring the car over.”
Mark took back the phone. “Okay.”
–
Meng Shuyou had just finished her third drink. After the call, knowing she was safe, she simply ordered a few more cups and tried cocktails of various tastes.
“Miss, this ‘Fireburn Cloud’ has a strong aftereffect. Drinking too much can make you drunk easily…” Before the bartender finished speaking, the wine glass in Meng Shuyou’s hand was already empty.
The honey and lime juice neutralized the vodka’s kick, with a sweet and smooth taste.
Worried she might get drunk alone, the bartender quickly asked, “Do you have friends nearby?”
Meng Shuyou set down her wine glass. “Yeah, he’s coming over soon.”
The bartender felt relieved and didn’t pay attention to her anymore.
Meng Shuyou lay on the bar counter. The alcohol gradually kicked in, her eyes became hazy, she saw double vision, and the lights made her dizzy.
At some point, a “yellow-haired guy” had sat next to her and struck up a conversation. “Miss, I see you’re alone. Do you need me to keep you company for a drink?”
Meng Shuyou lifted her eyelids slightly and refused. “I don’t know you. Get lost.”
“We’d know each other after becoming friends. My name is…” Before he could say his name, his wrist was suddenly grabbed by someone, and he let out a miserable scream. “Ah—”
A gloomy and cold voice sounded by her side. “Can’t understand human speech, huh?”
The yellow-haired guy was in so much pain his face twisted, begging for mercy repeatedly. “I won’t dare anymore…”
