Chapter 43: Who Changed My Clothes?
Meng Shuyou’s cheeks flushed red, “I…”
She had never been kissed before.
Pei Yuzhou seemed to just remember, “Sorry, forgot about the telephone call.”
An apology without any sincerity.
His tone was indifferent, “I think the cooperation is no longer necessary.”
Ellen on the other end of the mobile phone snapped out of his shock, “Mister Kerwin, please hear me out…”
Pei Yuzhou lacked the patience, “Hung up.”
Mark promptly pressed to end the call.
Inside the car, quiet was restored, but the ambiguous atmosphere lingered.
Meng Shuyou’s cheeks burned, the flush spreading to the roots behind her ears.
He did it on purpose, deliberately letting Ellen know.
The driver knew the rules well, turning a deaf ear and not looking where he shouldn’t.
Mark took the initiative to raise the baffle, leaving private space for the back seat.
Meng Shuyou felt a wave of stuffiness in her chest, her breathing slightly halting.
She uncomfortably looked outside the window, raindrops pattering on the glass, water streaks slanting messily downward.
Pei Yuzhou turned her face toward him, “Why are you blushing? Weren’t you bold when you kissed me?”
Meng Shuyou met his gaze, her eyelashes trembling lightly, and softly defended herself, “I didn’t actually kiss you before.”
Besides, who French kisses on their first kiss.
Her mouth was full of his smell, and the root of her tongue still tingled faintly.
Pei Yuzhou brushed aside the damp hair at her cheek, “You’ve kissed now, satisfied?”
Meng Shuyou stayed silent.
He had bitten her until it hurt; even if unsatisfied, she didn’t dare say so.
“Who told you my address?” Pei Yuzhou changed the topic.
Meng Shuyou had promised Zhao Hesong but didn’t want to lie, “Can I not say?”
Even if she didn’t say, Pei Yuzhou could guess, “Zhao Hesong.”
Meng Shuyou observed his expression, “Will you be angry?”
“You can consider confessing proactively, why you went to see Ellen.”
“The Meng Family is forcing me to go back for a marriage alliance, I don’t want to.” She was honest.
Pei Yuzhou’s gaze darkened, “You think Ellen is a better choice? Do you know him well?”
Meng Shuyou immediately shook her head.
She had only heard that Ellen was very promiscuous when young.
At that time, she was desperate, with no time to consider so much.
“Do you know how many women he played with at the same time back then, the kind in bed.” Pei Yuzhou sneered, curling his lip, “I hear he has special perversions, imprisonment, recording…”
Meng Shuyou felt disgusted just listening, “Don’t say any more.”
She was now immensely glad she hadn’t agreed to him that day, nearly stepping into another abyss.
“I know I was wrong.” She gently grabbed Pei Yuzhou’s sleeve, “Can you not hold it against me?”
He didn’t speak, his expression remaining unpleasant.
Meng Shuyou could only change the topic, “When do we arrive at the airport? Can we really leave without passports?”
Pei Yuzhou leaned back, his voice flat and casual, “If we can’t leave, you stay behind.”
Afraid of being left by him, Meng Shuyou reached out to hug his neck, “I don’t want to, I want to go with you.”
Through the thin two layers of fabric, her soft body pressed close.
She was slim, but her curves were in all the right places, shapely and alluring.
Pei Yuzhou’s breathing deepened slightly, his adam’s apple itching, his fingers pressing her forehead to push her away, “Stay farther away.”
“You’re telling me to stay away again, but you weren’t like this when you just kissed me.” Meng Shuyou couldn’t help accusing, “And last time at the hotel, I didn’t do anything, and you snapped at me.”
How could he change faces so quickly.
Pei Yuzhou’s adam’s apple bobbed, his eyes darkening deeply, one hand confining her lower back, thin lips against her ear, hoarsely saying: “If you’re not afraid, come closer again, and we’ll get it done right here in the car.”
“…”
Meng Shuyou’s face, which had finally cooled, burned red again, she struggled free of his arm, got off his lap, wrapped herself in the blanket, and sat obediently beside him, shrinking like a quail.
So that’s what he meant by stay farther away.
–
Upon arriving at the airport, Pei Yuzhou had the staff take Meng Shuyou to the shower room first to bathe.
The clothes were temporarily bought at the mall.
She changed out of her wet clothes, feeling much fresher and more comfortable.
After finishing dinner, it was time to board.
The crew provided meticulous service throughout.
Mister Pei’s private jet had a spacious and luxurious cabin, with gray leather seats and marble desktops in view, plus a separate meeting room, lounge, bedroom, cloakroom, and bathroom inside, facilities comparable to a five-star hotel.
The rain eased, and at eight-thirty, the airplane took off smoothly.
Pei Yuzhou showered on the airplane; he had mysophobia and wouldn’t use public shower rooms.
Meng Shuyou lay on the sofa chair and watched television for a bit; exhausted from the whole day, she fully relaxed now and soon drifted into a hazy sleep.
In her dream, she foresaw something bad happening to her older sister; she watched helplessly from the side, unable to stop it no matter what.
Fine beads of sweat appeared on her forehead, her cheeks flushed, mumbling incoherent sleep talk.
She vaguely heard someone calling her by her ear, but she just couldn’t open her eyes.
Pei Yuzhou touched her forehead with the back of his hand; it was burning hot.
After getting drenched in the rain, she had fallen ill after all.
At eleven at night, the airplane landed at New York LGA Airport.
The crew witnessed Mister Kerwin personally carrying the girl off the airplane.
The man’s steps were steady as he descended the airstair, his figure disappearing into the night.
Meng Shuyou uncomfortably rubbed against his chest in his arms.
Pei Yuzhou instructed Mark to contact the family doctor.
Leaving the airport, a driver was there to meet them, heading straight back to the Manhattan mansion.
The family doctor arrived early with the medicine box; the servant opened the door and invited him into the living room to wait.
“Isn’t it Mister Kerwin who’s ill?” He had rushed over in a hurry, only to find he had put on mismatched socks.
The servant shook her head, indicating she didn’t know.
After waiting about ten minutes, sounds came from outside.
Footsteps approached gradually.
Pei Yuzhou carried her in through the door, “Fever from the rain, check her out.”
The doctor was surprised he brought a girl home late at night.
But the employer’s private matters were not for him to pry into.
Meng Shuyou was settled in the second bedroom.
The doctor took her temperature.
At a glance, high fever of 40.6℃.
Weak constitution caught a chill, respiratory infection; needed an infusion to reduce the fever.
It wasn’t until the latter half of the night that her temperature gradually came down.
–
Meng Shuyou slept for a long time this time; when she woke, she stared blankly at the unfamiliar surroundings, her head still a bit groggy.
She remembered falling asleep on the airplane.
The spacious bedroom had curtains drawn only halfway, the light not harsh.
She looked down at her clothes; they had been changed to pajamas.
Who changed them for her?
How had she slept so soundly, unaware of anything happening.
After resting a few minutes, she lifted the quilt, got out of bed, and walked out.
No one in the corridor; nearing the staircase, she heard voices talking below.
“Mister, the latest batch of research and development medical equipment and medicine is in real-world testing, expected to take half a year.”
“Focus on it, no mistakes.”
“Yes.”
Meng Shuyou descended the stairs.
Barefoot, she made almost no footsteps.
But Pei Yuzhou still noticed, turning to glance toward the stairs, “Awake? Come here.”
Mark tactfully took his leave, “Mister, I’ll head to the company first then.”
He lightly acknowledged with a hum.
Meng Shuyou walked to the sofa.
Pei Yuzhou had her sit beside him, “No slippers?”
“Didn’t see the slippers.” Meng Shuyou sat next to him, pursed her lips, and asked embarrassedly: “Who changed my clothes for me?”
