Chapter 44: Don’t Talk Feelings With Him
Pei Yuzhou raised his eyebrows slightly, saying nothing.
Meng Shuyou thought it was his default, and her face flushed red at once, “You…”
“The servant changed it.” He spoke calmly.
Meng Shuyou swallowed the words on the tip of her tongue, “…Oh.”
Why does he always scare her.
Pei Yuzhou raised his hand to check her forehead temperature, which had returned to normal, “Is there anywhere else that’s uncomfortable?”
“My head still feels a bit heavy.” Meng Shuyou glanced outside the window, “Did I sleep for a long time?”
Pei Yuzhou gave her the mobile phone to check the time.
Nine twenty-three in the morning.
Meng Shuyou didn’t think it was unusual at first, until she saw the date clearly and opened her mouth in surprise, “Did I sleep for a day and two nights?”
“Has your constitution always been this weak since childhood?”
“I don’t get sick often either, it’s just that when I do get sick, it’s more serious.”
Pei Yuzhou held her wrist, “What’s going on with the injury on your hand?”
Just the night before last he had noticed that there were several abrasions on her elbow, and they weren’t new injuries.
Meng Shuyou lifted her arm to look, “That day I went to tutor someone, and on the way back at night I encountered a bad person tailing me, he grabbed my bag, and I accidentally fell during the struggle.”
Pei Yuzhou darkened his gaze, “You should be glad he only robbed your bag.”
Meng Shuyou thought about it and felt scared too.
“Go eat breakfast, and take the medicine after eating.” Pei Yuzhou got up and carried her to the restaurant.
“Can I skip the medicine? Actually, I feel like…”
“No.”
Meng Shuyou silently shut her mouth.
Pei Yuzhou set her down on the chair.
The servant brought out breakfast, including millet porridge, egg custard, and vegetable meat soup, all light diet specially made for her.
Meng Shuyou felt hungry as soon as she smelled the aroma, picked up the spoon, and started eating.
Pei Yuzhou instructed, “Get her a pair of slippers.”
“Okay.” The servant turned and fetched a pair of pink slippers from the shoe cabinet at the entrance.
Meng Shuyou looked down and put them on, asking curiously, “Does your house have any other opposite sex?”
The servant could understand Chinese and quickly gave an explanation, “Miss, don’t misunderstand, I just bought this at the supermarket yesterday, there are no madam slippers at home, I didn’t know your size, so I bought a size larger.”
Meng Shuyou curved her lips slightly, “I didn’t misunderstand, I was just asking casually.”
Before Pei Yuzhou went to the study room, he instructed the servant, “Wait until she’s finished eating, then watch her take the medicine.”
“Okay, Mister.”
Meng Shuyou had originally planned to muddle through.
She had been bad at taking medicine since childhood, struggling to swallow pills or capsules, and could only take powder or oral liquid medicine.
The servant had placed her anti-inflammatory medicine on the dining table in advance.
Meng Shuyou sighed, deliberately eating her breakfast slowly, delaying as much as she could.
She remembered to look for her mobile phone, “Did you see where my bag is? A small black lambskin one.”
After sleeping for so long, there must be a bunch of news and missed telephone calls.
The servant said, “Upstairs, I’ll go get it.”
“Trouble you to just bring down the mobile phone and charger inside it, thank you.”
“Okay.”
Meng Shuyou finished the last mouthful of porridge.
The servant quickly returned and gave her the items.
The mobile phone had automatically shut down due to low battery.
Meng Shuyou went to the living room to find a plug and charged it.
As expected, as soon as it turned on, there were over a dozen missed calls, more than twenty messages, most from Winnie.
“What are you doing Yaoyao, did you go to replace your documents?”
“Why aren’t you replying to me?”
“Are you out there with some other little sweetheart?”
“That’s women for you, when they love you they treat you to meals and milk tea, when they don’t, they don’t even reply to messages.”
“It’s been a whole day, where are you?”
“Can’t get through on the phone either, nothing happened, right?”
“If you don’t call back, I’m calling the police.”
Meng Shuyou quickly called back.
After a few rings, it connected.
“Spill it, are you pinned under a man so you can’t reply to messages?” Winnie wasn’t anxious at all right now.
Meng Shuyou laughed wryly, “No, I’ve been sick these past two days and slept for a long time.”
“How did you get sick out of nowhere?”
“Caught a cold from getting caught in the rain.”
Winnie said seriously, “Alright, I thought Mister Pei had you pinned in bed and you couldn’t get up.”
“What are you saying.” Meng Shuyou’s face flushed, “How did you know I’m with Mister Pei?”
“I asked Young Master Zhao.” Winnie said, “I was so worried I almost called the police.”
Meng Shuyou apologized sincerely, “Sorry, sorry, for making you worry.”
“Fine, I forgive you.” Winnie switched to gossip mode in a second, “Have you gotten together with Mister Pei?”
Meng Shuyou lowered her voice, “Probably.”
“What do you mean probably?” Winnie asked, “Have you confirmed the relationship?”
“…It doesn’t matter.”
She wasn’t after a title anyway, as long as Pei Yuzhou protected her fully.
Besides, with Mister Pei’s status, even if not a marriage alliance now, he would marry a wife of equal standing later.
And after her graduation, she would return to the country.
There wouldn’t be any result anyway, so what did it matter with or without a title.
“Are you lovesick Yaoyao, men who won’t confirm the relationship with you are all scumbags, don’t you know?” Winnie had an urge to knock some sense into her.
“It’s not like what you think.” Meng Shuyou couldn’t explain too much, “Don’t worry, I know what I’m doing.”
Winnie was convinced she had been dazzled by male charms, “What do you know, you can’t lower your bottom line just because he’s handsome, you absolutely can’t fall in and get hurt.”
“Mm, I won’t.”
“You can go after his looks, sleep with him and that’s it, don’t get feelings involved.”
Though the words were rough, the reasoning wasn’t wrong, but this was too rough.
They chatted for twenty minutes before ending the telephone call.
After she hung up, the servant reminded her, “Miss, take the medicine.”
Meng Shuyou still couldn’t escape, she returned to the dining table with a sense of facing death, struggled greatly to swallow the medicine, nearly got it stuck in her throat, and washed it down with two cups of water.
Pei Yuzhou had been busy in the study room the whole time, she didn’t disturb him and wandered around the house casually.
It was too big here, without a servant leading the way, she would probably get lost.
The negative first floor was the storage room, with a three-hundred-square-meter constant temperature wine cellar, collectible wines worth hundreds of thousands per bottle outside were casually placed here.
The entire second floor was bedrooms and dressing rooms, the third floor was Mister Pei’s office area, no one was allowed to enter without permission.
Meng Shuyou liked the large terrace on the top floor the most, with excellent view, beautiful scenery, sitting on the sofa drinking afternoon tea was especially pleasant.
Pei Yuzhou went to the company in the afternoon, she never found the opportunity to talk to him about the internship.
At ten in the evening, he finally returned.
Meng Shuyou heard the sound of a car downstairs, opened the door, and waited for him in the corridor.
Moments later, the man’s figure emerged from the elevator entrance.
Long legs in black trousers strode forward, his left arm draped with a suit jacket.
He approached and stopped, “Not asleep yet?”
Under the lights, shadows enveloped her.
“Mister Pei, I have something to tell you.” He was too tall, Meng Shuyou had to lift her head to meet his gaze, “I found an internship before, the art gallery is in Brooklyn, I want to rent a house there, and go check it out tomorrow.”
Pei Yuzhou undid his shirt cufflinks, his tone flat, “Can’t live here?”
