Chapter 47: How Will You Know It Won’t Work If You Don’t Try?
The air fell silent.
The man’s breathing was very shallow, the lamplight softly casting shadows that made his features appear even more profound and alluring, his jawline smooth and taut.
This face of his was unreasonably long, perfectly avoiding all flaws.
Good-looking, with an excellent figure, magnetic voice, who knows which window God closed for him.
Meng Shuyou looked at him up close for a moment, reached out to wake him, but before her hand touched him, her wrist was gripped first.
Pei Yuzhou exerted a little force, and she pitched forward, her knees instinctively kneeling on the sofa, her whole body falling into his arms.
A light, pleasant woody fragrance enveloped her nose.
Meng Shuyou let out a soft exclamation, “You weren’t asleep?”
The man opened his eyes, his palm clasping her lower back, rubbing through the fabric of her clothes, “Do you know what time it is now?”
Meng Shuyou’s arms pressed against his chest, her gaze level with his, “A little after nine.”
“Where were you?” Pei Yuzhou asked.
“I was tidying up the apartment over there.”
Bought some paint, brush, drawing board, and added a lot of daily necessities.
“Already rented?”
“Yeah, Madam Kasa helped me rent it.” Meng Shuyou looked at him and took the initiative to say, “Thank you for introducing me to the internship.”
At first, she really thought she had been struck by good luck, but it turned out he was behind it.
Pei Yuzhou raised an eyebrow, “How do you want to thank me?”
Meng Shuyou hesitated for a few seconds, leaned in, and pecked his lips.
Like a dragonfly skimming water, touching and then parting.
He wasn’t satisfied, “Just like that?”
Meng Shuyou’s ear tips flushed red, murmuring softly, “…I don’t know how to do more.”
Pei Yuzhou lifted his hand to tuck a stray lock of hair behind her ear, “How do you know you can’t without trying?”
Being looked at like that by him, Meng Shuyou’s cheeks couldn’t help but heat up.
After a moment, she leaned in again, her tongue tip tentatively probing cautiously.
Pei Yuzhou remained still, letting her take the lead.
Their breaths intertwined, hot and sticky.
Her movements were so clumsy, without any technique learned, warm and teasing.
Not long into the kiss, Meng Shuyou’s lips went numb, wanting to pull back.
Pei Yuzhou didn’t give her the chance, cradling the back of her head and taking control, deepening the kiss.
The surrounding temperature rose.
Meng Shuyou unconsciously gripped his shirt collar tightly, the expensive fabric wrinkled and crumpled.
Pei Yuzhou’s palm slipped under her hem, stopping at her waist, gently kneading.
Meng Shuyou’s heart skipped a beat, she pushed him away to catch her breath.
Her red lips slightly swollen, her eyes misty.
Pei Yuzhou moved his hand from her waist, his fingertip wiping away the tear at the corner of her eye.
Meng Shuyou shifted her knees, her voice soft and weak, “My legs are sore…”
Pei Yuzhou pulled her onto his lap to sit sideways, his long fingers twirling her hair ends, “You said yourself how long it takes to get used to it.”
“What?” Meng Shuyou didn’t understand, looking up at him.
Pei Yuzhou’s gaze was deep, “Sleep in my room.”
Meng Shuyou’s ears instantly turned red, her eyelashes trembling, “I…”
She was silent for a while, then said softly, “A month?”
Pei Yuzhou lightly pinched her cheek, “Remember to count down properly.”
Meng Shuyou’s heart pounded wildly, “…”
Pei Yuzhou released her, “Go upstairs to sleep.”
Meng Shuyou immediately got off his lap, secretly sighing in relief, hurriedly said “Good night, Mister Pei” and ran upstairs.
Back in her room, she flopped onto the bed, burying her face in the soft down quilt.
His words echoed in her ears—remember to count down properly.
With this kind of thing, isn’t it supposed to happen naturally? Who specifically counts down for it.
She didn’t resist intimacy, just lacked experience and felt unsure.
After a while, she sat up, pulled out her mobile phone from her bag, and WeChat had over twenty group messages from their three girls’ group chat.
Mia shared a few photos with a handsome guy in the group, “What do you think, handsome or not?”
Winnie: “You’re not dating him already, are you?”
Mia: “What do you mean ‘already’? My last one was three months ago, okay.”
Winnie: “Why is dating as simple as eating and drinking for some people.”
Mia: “Probably because I’m looks-obsessed and heartless, falling for one after another.”
Winnie: “I want to be like that too.”
Mia: “You’re not a heartbreaker, you can’t.”
Winnie curiously asked, “You’ve dated so many, don’t you really miss any one of them?”
Mia: “I do, the skilled ones leave a deep impression.”
Winnie: “…”
Mia complained, “Some men look tall and burly, handsome appearance, but when it comes to action, they can’t last three minutes.”
Winnie: “Don’t they say foreign men are well-equipped? True or false.”
Mia: “It varies by person. I met one who was a big tree with a small pepper, scared me into taking a cab and running.”
Winnie: “Hahahahaha, such a vivid image, I can picture it.”
Mia: “No matter how handsome, if it’s all show and no go, it’s no good.”
Winnie: “Totally agree.”
Mia: “What about Yaoyao? You didn’t get scared off by us, did you?”
Meng Shuyou popped up, “I went to the art gallery during the day, just got back.”
Mia: “Where are you staying? Rented a house by yourself?”
Meng Shuyou pursed her lips, “I’m temporarily staying at Mister Pei’s house.”
Mia: “Living together? You two move fast!”
Mia: “Tell us, what’s it like? Is the mixed blood man impressive?”
Meng Shuyou’s face heated up, “No, we sleep in separate rooms.”
Mia questioned, “Leaving a beauty like you to sleep separately? Is he not up to it?”
Mia: “Baby, don’t be silly. We don’t want men who can’t perform. Once you taste the fun of that, you’ll know.”
Meng Shuyou blushed and explained, “No, we’re just taking it step by step.”
Winnie reminded, “Remember to protect yourself when that happens, use protection.”
Meng Shuyou felt too embarrassed to continue, ended the topic, “I’m going to shower and get ready for bed, bye.”
She put down her mobile phone and went to the wardrobe to find pajamas.
All the clothes and items in the room were purchased by the servant on Mister Pei’s orders, all luxury big brands, even a hairpin costing thousands, a pair of pajamas six figures.
The clothes she usually bought herself were quite bargain, because painting easily gets paint on them, and cheap clothes aren’t heartbreaking if stained and unwashed.
Exhausted from tidying the apartment all afternoon, Meng Shuyou showered and went to sleep early.
–
The next day.
The police station in Chicago contacted Meng Shuyou, saying her bags had been found, except for the cash inside which was missing, the documents were all intact.
Meng Shuyou was quite surprised at how fast they handled the case this time.
But she couldn’t go pick them up now, so she asked her senior female student in the department to help run to the police station and mail them to New York.
These past few days, she was at the art gallery from morning to night, learning by Madam Kasa’s side, absorbing different painting techniques.
A senior is a senior; the portrayal of character light and shadow was very delicate, brushstrokes precise and lifelike, even skin textures restored. She still had much to learn.
At noon, Madam Kasa took a telephone call and said to Meng Shuyou, “This afternoon a guest is coming to see paintings. I have a sudden appointment and need to go out. Can you handle it alone?”
Meng Shuyou nodded, “Should be no problem. Go ahead.”
Madam Kasa removed her apron, “Okay, call me if anything comes up.”
“Got it.”
At three in the afternoon, the guests arrived, two young beautiful girls, clearly young ladies.
Meng Shuyou had seen one of them before.
