Chapter 79:
Germany.
Hesse has a private hunting area where legal hunting is allowed as long as one holds the relevant documents.
Surrounded by dense forests with lush vegetation, wild rabbits and pheasants occasionally appear, and squirrels peek out from the trees.
The owner of the hunting ground invited Pei Yuzhou to come play here and discuss additional project investment.
Anthony is a descendant of German nobles, the heir to the largest industrial manufacturing group locally, and has known Pei Yuzhou for several years with deep cooperation.
“Mr. Kerwin, I have a bottle of treasured excellent deer antler wine at my place, hunted from a sika deer last winter, brewed with deer antler, baijiu, ginseng and other medicinal ingredients, it can replenish qi and essence, strengthen the heart and protect the veins, would you like a glass later?”
Pei Yuzhou leaned against the railing and lit a cigar, glancing faintly at him, “You drink more, I don’t need any.”
Anthony instantly understood his look and hurriedly explained, “No, I don’t have troubles in that area, I just simply want to nourish my body.”
Pei Yuzhou nodded, “You do need to nourish yourself.”
“…”
He was making it worse.
The phone ringtone sounded.
Anthony took out his mobile phone, “Sorry, it’s my wife’s call, I’ll take it, or she’ll make a fuss if I don’t.”
Pei Yuzhou held the cigar to his lips, “Do as you please.”
Anthony walked to the other side to answer the telephone call.
He chatted a few sentences and returned, “Sorry for the embarrassment, women are just clingy, immature, always checking up.”
Pei Yuzhou exposed him, “I see you’re quite enjoying it.”
Anthony touched his nose and smiled, “No way around it, it shows she loves me, indifference comes from not caring.”
Pei Yuzhou’s fingertip paused slightly, his eyes darkening.
He had been on a business trip for a week, but Meng Shuyou hadn’t proactively called once, not even a message.
Anthony said enviously, “Mr. Kerwin is still free, no such worries.”
Pei Yuzhou exhaled smoke, “You talk too much.”
Anthony: “…”
Which words of his were wrong again?
–
The art gallery was busy on weekends, getting off work late, so Meng Shuyou could only stay up late to finish the line drafts.
She had previously taken on a few illustration commercial orders, time was tight, one day she even pulled an all-nighter until six in the morning, falling asleep on the sofa.
Five or six days of being constantly busy.
She finished drawing the three line drafts, took photos and sent them to Qiao Yun for review, and the other side was generally very satisfied, suggesting a few minor detail changes.
Rushing along, Meng Shuyou spent another three days to complete the illustration manuscript.
She sent a message to Qiao Yun: “President Qiao, the draft is almost done, when do you have time, let’s meet in person to see what else needs adjustment, I’ll revise it.”
Qiao Yun: “I had urgent domestic matters and flew back home yesterday, you’ll probably have to coordinate the draft with Xiao Zheng.”
Meng Shuyou: “Okay.”
She sent a message to Zheng Huaijin, waited a while, no reply from the other side, probably busy.
Meng Shuyou put down her mobile phone and went back to bed for a nap.
Too tired this period, hadn’t slept well.
Waking up, it was already past six in the evening.
The mobile phone kept vibrating on the bedside table, a call from Zheng Huaijin, she picked it up and answered.
“Yaoyao, I just saw the message, I’m free tomorrow or the day after, see what time works, let’s meet and talk.”
His voice sounded a bit weak.
Meng Shuyou was just about to ask if he was sick when she heard someone else speaking on the phone.
“Patient in 601, are you sure you want to be discharged today? Your body is still very weak, if discharging, best have a family member or friend come pick you up.”
Zheng Huaijin said softly, “I’m fine.”
Meng Shuyou asked, “Are you alone in the hospital? Not feeling well?”
Zheng Huaijin hadn’t finished his infusion, pale-faced leaning against the bed head, “Acute gastroenteritis.”
Out of concern for a friend, Meng Shuyou said, “Which hospital are you at? I’ll come see you.”
“It’s late at night, no need to trouble yourself.”
“No trouble, if you’re discharging I can go help with the procedures, it must be inconvenient alone.”
Zheng Huaijin knew he shouldn’t let her make the trip, yet couldn’t refuse, a strong urge in his heart to see her.
In the end, selfishness prevailed, “I’m at the city hospital, inpatient department sixth floor 601.”
“Okay.”
Hanging up, Meng Shuyou changed clothes and went downstairs.
The servant was about to come up to call her for dinner.
Meng Shuyou said to her, “Tina, I have something to do and going out, skip dinner.”
“Going out at night?” The servant was worried, “Call the driver, it might not be safe alone.”
“It’s fine, just meeting a friend.”
“Then be careful.”
“Mm.”
Meng Shuyou went out, took a taxi straight to the hospital, bought a fruit gift box at a nearby store and carried it up.
Zheng Huaijin knew she was coming, kept looking toward the hospital room doorway.
A light footsteps approached.
Meng Shuyou pushed open the door and walked in, “Zheng Huaijin, are you okay?”
He lifted the corner of his lips, “I’m fine, trouble for you to come.”
Meng Shuyou placed the things in her hand on the bedside table, “Bought you some fruit.”
“Thanks.” Zheng Huaijin asked, “Have you eaten dinner?”
Meng Shuyou shook her head, “Not yet.”
Zheng Huaijin quickly said, “There’s dinner on the table, untouched, should still be hot, go eat some.”
“What about you?”
“I drank a bowl of porridge, can’t eat anything else.”
Meng Shuyou didn’t stand on ceremony with him, moved a stool to sit by the coffee table, opened the lunchbox, “You’re discharging tonight?”
“Mm, don’t want to stay in the hospital, have rejected such places since childhood.” Zheng Huaijin looked up at the infusion bottle, estimating about twenty minutes left.
Meng Shuyou picked up the chopsticks, “Then I’ll go handle the procedures later.”
“No rush, eat slowly, I already had the doctor sign this afternoon, just need payment.” Zheng Huaijin even joked, “You should have brought the tablet, we could finalize the manuscript along the way.”
Meng Shuyou looked up at his pallid face, “You’re sick and still thinking about work, let’s find another time.”
“Okay.” Another chance to meet, Zheng Huaijin was naturally happy.
By the time Meng Shuyou finished eating, his infusion was almost done, the nurse came to remove needle, instructed on post-discharge precautions.
Zheng Huaijin had only stayed one night, no things to pack, except mobile phone power bank, just the fruit gift box left.
Meng Shuyou reached out, “I’ll carry it.”
How could Zheng Huaijin let her carry things, “No need, not heavy, let’s go.”
The two went down to the hall together for payment.
Not many people now, discharge done in two minutes.
Unexpectedly, rain suddenly started outside.
Under the night curtain, raindrops fell densely, rain noisy.
Zheng Huaijin smiled helplessly, “So unlucky.”
Taxis can’t drive to the hospital hall doorway, need to walk a short distance to the roadside to hail one.
Meng Shuyou remembered, “The hospital seems to lend umbrellas, I’ll ask at the counter over there.”
“Okay.” Zheng Huaijin stood by the door waiting for her.
