Chapter 310: Speculation About The Node
The Containment Center D Zone seeing the light of day again.
Countless military green tents were toppled haphazardly in all directions, various sundries scattered casually on the ground, and upon closer inspection, one could even see money, jewelry, and other valuables on the ground.
It wasn’t that there was no one left; in fact, a considerable portion of civilians in this area were still surviving.
They had just recovered from a pitch-black environment and hadn’t yet figured out what had happened when their attention was drawn to the ferocious eyeball in the sky.
Even the death fighters mixed in among them couldn’t help but be slightly stunned for a moment upon seeing the eyeball in the sky.
It must be known that while this world’s anomalies were numerous, they generally followed traceable patterns.
Either chilling yin energy, or gory bloody monsters, or at the very least, certain indescribable rule-based existences.
Yet that eyeball high in the sky had no anomalous feeling whatsoever.
What it emanated was a mysterious aura that inspired awe in people’s hearts.
A dandy man in a proper suit raised his eyebrows in astonishment: “This is also an anomaly?”
“Hard to say, anyway it’s not something we can deal with; let that guardian god worry about it.”
A blond young man responded casually, his tone laced with sarcasm when mentioning the guardian god.
No helping it, the power level of this deathmatch arena wasn’t all that high—not comparable to those high-martial fantasy worlds that casually exploded stars.
But the power possessed by these anomalies in this world was indeed quite troublesome, with many involving the scope of rules.
No matter what ability combinations the death fighters had assembled, once affected, they had little chance of resistance.
Faced with this situation, the surviving death fighters at present could only try their best to avoid areas with anomalous existences.
Playing it safe and ensuring their own survival was the best action.
This was more like a contest of luck, seeing who had better luck rather than who was stronger.
The dandy man withdrew his gaze from the eyeball and looked around, saying for safety’s sake, “Let’s change places; there are too many people here.”
Though anomalies had varying habits, leading to roughly the same probability of encountering one regardless of crowd size.
However, anomalies that dared to appear directly in crowds were generally more troublesome by comparison.
The blond young man naturally had no objection, nodding to the dandy man and lifting his foot to head toward a remote direction.
Pata~
A pale white hand suddenly grabbed the blond young man’s calf.
“Where do you want to go…”
A chilling cold voice came from behind, eerie enough to make one’s hair stand on end.
The blond young man immediately felt as if he had lost control of his body, stiffening up as if petrified, unable even to turn his head for a look.
“Come keep me company…”
The light of dusk shone on him, yet the blond young man felt no warmth at all; he was so tense he could even hear his own heartbeat growing louder.
He swallowed hard, using all his strength to try to wrench his leg free from that pale white hand, but to no effect.
“Hm?”
The dandy man took two steps, felt something was off, and turned to look at the blond young man frozen in place: “Cai Xiang, what are you doing?”
The other didn’t respond, causing the dandy man’s expression to freeze as he instinctively backed away.
He tentatively waved his hand in front of the blond young man called Cai Xiang: “…Got something dirty on you, huh?”
Even though Cai Xiang still showed no reaction, the dandy man already had his answer.
The dandy man then turned and ran without hesitation, afraid of being caught by whatever it was if he was even a bit slow.
Seeing this, Cai Xiang cursed inwardly.
Even though everyone knew there was no such thing as trust between death fighters, his “teammate” running off so quickly still caught Cai Xiang off guard.
“Hehe, come here…”
That chilling cold voice entered Cai Xiang’s ears again, like a death knell, making Cai Xiang feel as if his heart had jumped into his throat.
Anger, despair, yet powerless; just as Cai Xiang’s emotions reached their peak.
Suddenly,
A fair and slender hand suddenly patted Cai Xiang’s shoulder.
“Interesting, did you cause this?”
In that instant, Cai Xiang felt as if he had gone from an underground frozen storage to the sunlit ground.
The familiar warmth he had once taken for granted felt so moving upon rediscovery that it nearly brought tears to his eyes.
He whipped his head around to see Lu Bai, who had appeared before him at some point.
He was just about to express his gratitude when, under the influence of Lu Bai’s three titles’ aura, he felt as if plunged into an ice cellar, shivering like a quail.
“You… guardian god…”
Lu Bai’s attention wasn’t on the death fighter in front of him; instead, he squatted down by a shard of broken glass at Cai Xiang’s feet.
This shard of broken glass appeared to be part of a mirror.
After pondering for two seconds, he tapped twice on the surface of the shard: “Don’t hide in there without making a sound; come out and chat?”
As soon as he spoke, the shard of broken glass showed no movement, ordinary as any mirror shard, yet one could feel the thick yin energy emanating from it.
Lu Bai didn’t mind and conveniently wrapped the shard of broken glass in yellow paper, stuffing it into his pocket.
If he wasn’t mistaken, this shard of broken glass was actually part of two anomalies: Sequence 127—Mirror Demon, and Sequence 128—Cloud Mirror.
Initially, he had rushed over upon seeing the death fighter’s title, planning to resolve it conveniently, but after noticing this shard of broken glass, he suddenly remembered something.
Don’t forget, every deathmatch arena had “nodes” that influenced the world.
So after getting a preliminary understanding of this world’s situation, he had been pondering what the node of this world might be.
It wasn’t hard to deduce: humanity had no supernatural power at all.
With human continuation as the premise, relying on anomalous power was an unavoidable route.
Thus, this world’s node could only be found on anomalies.
Following this reasoning, anomalies whose main body was an item became Lu Bai’s primary focus.
Video recordings, teddy bears, blue lady’s cigarettes, endless stairwells, and naturally including the Cloud Mirror.
Though not necessarily usable, since he had encountered it, carrying it had no downside.
Lu Bai stood up and looked at Cai Xiang beside him: “Alright, now let’s talk about your issue.”
The smiling gaze made Cai Xiang shudder first, then the death fighter spoke at breakneck speed.
“Big boss, don’t act yet; I still have value, I know where other death fighters are hiding…”
