Chapter 16: Key Training, Connections
Yuan Chenyang didn’t explain too much and gently asked, “Do you need something from me?”
“I have a friend who says he has talent.” Bai Fengxi’s voice was crisp.
“A friend?” Yuan Chenyang frowned slightly and hesitated, “A refugee?”
“Mm.” Bai Fengxi nodded.
Yuan Chenyang sighed, a flash of killing intent in his eyes, “You’re just too kind and don’t know how to refuse. I’ll send someone to the tent area to warn him.”
Bai Fengxi shook her head and explained, “Zhou Zong was investigating me, and he helped block him.”
“Zhou Zong?” Yuan Chenyang frowned, realizing something was off, “What qualification does he have to block Zhou Zong?”
“He’s already entered South Wind Academy as an auditing student…” Bai Fengxi explained.
“How did he get in?” Yuan Chenyang became interested.
Bai Fengxi hesitated slightly and said, “Instructor Jiang He brought him in.”
“Jiang He?” Yuan Chenyang was stunned again, disgust flashing in his eyes, and he felt annoyed even toward this unknown boy he’d never met.
“I’m not taking any more students.” Yuan Chenyang shook his head.
Bai Fengxi didn’t say anything, just lowered her head further and silently stepped back.
Seeing her like this, Yuan Chenyang felt helpless and called out, “Alright, give him a chance and put him on this year’s key cultivation list.”
“Thank you.” Bai Fengxi bowed and added, “His name is Su Chen.”
“Got it. I’ll have someone arrange it, and also…” Yuan Chenyang suddenly remembered something, his tone stern, “Don’t get too entangled with him.”
Someone Jiang He took a liking to probably had a good-looking body.
“What entanglement?” Bai Fengxi looked up in confusion.
“Nothing, go on.” Yuan Chenyang felt slightly relieved.
After leaving the room, the confusion on Bai Fengxi’s face faded, turning indifferent.
She knew where her advantages lay and how to use them.
After coming to South Wind Academy, she’d never asked Yuan Chenyang for anything before, but whenever she opened her mouth, she always got something.
“Key cultivation list, that’s the best I can do. See how far you can go on your own.” Bai Fengxi’s reasons for helping Su Chen were complex.
Because of Little Pigeon, and some “compatriot” sentiment, plus admiration for how Su Chen managed to climb into Jiang He’s bed.
A person who was so “ruthless” deserved a chance.
………
Knock! Knock! Knock!
The knocking was gentle. While Su Chen was guessing who it was, he opened the door to see a stranger he’d never met—a man wearing black-framed glasses. From his demeanor, he clearly wasn’t a student, and he held a stack of information.
His tone wasn’t friendly as he said flatly, “You’re Su Chen, right? I’m Wei Zhigao, the person in charge of South Wind Academy’s key cultivation class. You’re already a member, and I’m here to inform you of some necessary matters.”
“Key cultivation class?” Su Chen was stunned and said in surprise, “Me?”
What was going on? Had Victim Brother made his move?
Wei Zhigao ignored Su Chen’s shock and walked straight in. He’d already checked Su Chen’s information.
A thorough backdoor entry, first Jiang He, now Vice Principal Yuan.
Being inserted halfway, he naturally wouldn’t have a good attitude.
………
“Yuan Chenyang? Why is it this old guy?”
In the room, the old man behind the desk frowned deeply. Jiang He paced back and forth, muttering nonstop, “Why is Yuan Chenyang helping Qi Chuan? Did I offend him somewhere?”
“Father, didn’t you say this was Qi Chuan reverse fishing? How did you end up arranging Su Chen in too?”
“Trouble…” The old man frowned deeply, “If it’s this old guy, then things can only end here.”
“End here?” Jiang He stopped in her tracks, incredulous, “What do you mean? We’re just letting the matter of someone trying to kill me slide?”
“Sigh, Yuan Chenyang…” The old man sighed, “With the academy under attack now, if he really wants to stir up trouble involving you and me, it’ll be very troublesome.”
“Don’t show your face recently. Just focus on preparing for promotion to second order mystic arts scholar.”
“Is that all we can do?” Jiang He was still unwilling, “What about Su Chen?”
“Ignore Su Chen for now. Let Qi Chuan mess around as he pleases. This matter is on hold for the time being.” The old man’s eyes flickered.
“For the time being?” Jiang He keenly caught that.
The old man tapped the armrest, his voice growing lower, “Let me figure out why Yuan Chenyang is supporting Qi Chuan. Also, people from Yingfeng Giant City are coming. If Yuan Chenyang can’t find the attacker, there might be blame…”
………
“Why is Yuan Chenyang paying attention to an obscure guy like Su Chen?”
The flat voice in his ear made cold sweat break out on Qi Chuan’s forehead. He gritted his teeth and said, “Don’t worry, he’s only transferred to the key cultivation class. He still has to go out for patrols.”
“If Yuan Chenyang looks into it, can you bear the responsibility?”
“I’ll bear it, everything’s on me.” Qi Chuan said solemnly, “This guy definitely knows a lot!”
……
“So many benefits…” Su Chen licked his lips, quite excited.
This key cultivation class was indeed different. First of all, resources: three portions of compressed nutrient solution rationed every week.
If consumed due to high intensity training, purchasing more oneself came with a 50% academy discount.
It also opened purchasing qualifications for auxiliary training potions, like blood activating potion and such.
However, even at 50% off, it still cost 500 gold to buy.
Plus customized professional paths and professional instructor faculty.
Of course, after graduation, these students were expected to provide free service to South Wind City for three to five years to repay the resource consumption.
“However, the unified talent measurement time at the start of school has passed, so you don’t qualify for individual instrument testing. I can’t determine your advantage direction.” Wei Zhigao said expressionlessly.
Whether physical talent or mental talent, brilliant silver and above would have special traits. This guy in front of him looked very ordinary.
“No need.” Su Chen didn’t care and thought of a key issue, “Do I still have to go out of the city then?”
“The out-of-city requirement was set by the city lord.” Wei Zhigao sneered inwardly. If this kid could extend his connections to the principal, that’d be impressive.
“Looks like I can’t avoid it.” Su Chen said helplessly.
Afraid to go out of the city? Wei Zhigao’s gaze grew more unfriendly. With Vice Principal Yuan’s strong personality, how could he arrange for someone like this to enter through the back door?
He pulled out a sheet of paper: “Do you want the physical route or the mental route? Once confirmed, I’ll arrange unified course training for you.”
Su Chen glanced at it—two columns of profession names, divided into physical and mental.
The physical side had more professions, five of them, while the mental side had only three.
“Are there any top tier professions here?” Su Chen asked, earning a look from Wei Zhigao like he was an idiot.
Su Chen didn’t mind, “Then physical it is.”
Physical at least had five professions to choose from, while mental had only three, with the only upper tier profession being mystic arts apprentice.
Physical had a first order superior profession.
“You choose Swift Walker?” Wei Zhigao frowned, practically having “overly ambitious” written on his face.
He’d seen Su Chen’s information. Refugees had no foundation; job appointment to a first order superior profession within three years was impossible. It was just a waste of resources with no other benefits.
He’d meant to advise him a couple times, but thinking of the guy’s information, he shut his mouth. It was a backdoor entry anyway; if he said more, he might be seen as meddling.
Let him play on his own.
“Your student ID card has been updated. The next physical training class is this afternoon. When you go, the instructor will give you the profession information.”
“This is a spirit communication device, temporary lease for use. If lost, you’ll need to compensate.”
Wei Zhigao tossed down a palm-sized metal instrument and left without looking back.
