Chapter 31: On The Horizon Of Controlling A Second Fierce Ghost
“That’s it.” Zhang Han curled his lip and said, “I feel like you’re not much stronger than me. Just now, if it wasn’t for Zhang Qian, you would’ve been done for again.”
“Hehehe, the terror of Ghost Mist isn’t something a newcomer like you can understand.” Feng Quan had a proud look on his face, “You’re not at that level yet, so naturally you can’t see its power. The abilities possessed by truly terrifying Fierce Ghosts are beyond your imagination. My Ghost Mist already has a bit of a prototype.”
“Ghost Domain, right.” Zhang Qian interrupted.
“You know about it too?” Feng Quan was somewhat surprised, “Didn’t Professor Wang say that very few people know? He only told me because my new ability is approaching Ghost Domain.”
“It can block line of sight to produce illusions, and also carry people with Teleportation. What else could it be but Ghost Domain.” Zhang Qian said, “Although Ghost Mist is only fierce when approaching Resurgence and isn’t very suitable for Ghost Controllers to control, it’s enough for self-preservation.”
Don’t let Feng Quan’s constant setbacks fool you; his self-preservation ability is still quite strong.
Thinking back to the Tattoo Parlor incident, he was chased by the Resurging Fierce Ghost behind Zhang Han for three streets and still came out fine. He even had the leisure to lie down and rest at the end. Truly admirable.
Zhang Han asked: “Just self-preservation isn’t enough, right? Zhang Qian, are you really going to save him?”
“Possible. If I’m not busy, I might take a look.” Zhang Qian pondered, “This ghost’s strength is just right. It can beat Feng Quan, which means it’s not some useless thing like the skeleton ghost with almost no attack power. But it also gave Feng Quan a chance to call for help, which means it hasn’t exceeded our understanding yet.”
“Combat power units have appeared. Suggest Headquarters adopt it to avoid Ghost Controllers arguing over inconsistent standards.” Zhang Han suggested.
Zhang Qian imagined it and thought it sounded pretty interesting.
In the future, the first thing Ghost Controllers say when meeting would be “This ghost is so terrifying, it would take at least double digits of Feng Quans to resolve.”
Feng Quan had veins popping on his forehead, “Hurry up and go, don’t hold up traffic, okay?”
“No rush. I’ll check if Xiao Fan is thoroughly dead.” Zhang Qian said.
He first checked the surroundings for any scattered limbs, then searched the Ferrari, confirming Xiao Fan left no contingencies. “Sure enough, I overestimated him.”
After pulling the Ferrari onto the emergency lane, Zhang Qian got into the van, “Let’s go, head to the urban area first.”
Zhang Han sat in the driver’s seat, and after opening the navigation, he suddenly had an idea: “Do you think there’s a ghost like a shady map? One that directly shows the positions of Supernatural Events, so Ghost Controllers can follow the map to catch ghosts.”
“That would absolutely cause earth-shattering changes in the Supernatural Circle. Nothing else, but at least the casualties from supernatural incidents would be much lower.” Feng Quan sighed, “Unfortunately, such a thing probably doesn’t exist. A whole country is so vast; how could a single Fierce Ghost scout the entire territory.”
“Not necessarily. After all, some ghosts exist in the form of games, so a Ghost Map is pretty normal too.” Zhang Qian said, “It’s just that such a ghost’s terror level would probably be extremely high. Ordinary Ghost Controllers might not even qualify to confront it.”
“Then Headquarters would spare no effort to imprison and study it. Right now, Ghost Controllers resolving Supernatural Events has a lot of delay. Many Fierce Ghosts kill without making much movement, and by the time casualties are discovered, the Fierce Ghost has already wandered elsewhere.”
The van’s speed was much faster than it looked; it wouldn’t be long before they returned to the Flower Market.
The Flower Market at this moment was still shrouded in faint mist, but of course, this wasn’t Ghost Mist, just naturally formed mist.
One could only say Xiao Fan truly didn’t die unjustly. To deal with him, Zhang Qian not only invited Feng Quan and Zhang Han but also deliberately picked a foggy day to cover the traces of Ghost Mist.
Headquarters also provided support for this operation, not only cooperating to seal off the highway but also offering to provide support from other Ghost Controllers.
Zhang Qian picked up his mobile phone and dialed a number, “Hello? Yu Xin, things are done on my end.”
The voice on the other end was that of a youth male, “Did everything go smoothly? Do you need us to come pick you up?”
Zhang Qian glanced at Feng Quan and said, “It was a close call, but thanks for your assistance.”
“No need for that. We should thank Comrade Zhang Qian for eliminating harm for the people and helping Headquarters deal with a scum who attacked civilians.” Yu Xin said gratefully, “I’ll report this matter truthfully; it should add another merit to your record.”
In Headquarters’ view, out-of-control Ghost Controllers are more terrifying than Fierce Ghosts. Fierce Ghosts at least have Killing Patterns and only kill those who trigger them.
But Ghost Controllers like Xiao Fan don’t care about that; in their eyes, a word or a glance is reason enough for killing.
Headquarters wants to clear them out too, but people have thoughts; they hide, conceal their Ghost Controller identities. Generally, they’re much harder to find than Fierce Ghosts.
“Fine.” Zhang Qian reminded, “The car Xiao Fan was driving is parked on the roadside. You can collect evidence and tow it away yourselves.”
Yu Xin said: “No problem. What to do with that Ferrari?”
“I’ll ask them if they want it.” Zhang Qian was about to ask when he noticed Zhang Han sneakily glancing at the back seat through the rearview mirror.
“What, you want it?”
Zhang Han said a bit embarrassedly: “Ask Feng Quan’s opinion first. I didn’t contribute, so I have no right to pick.”
“Whatever, I don’t like sports cars. Take it yourself.” Feng Quan refused, “All looks no substance. I prefer off-road vehicles.”
Sports cars have too high terrain requirements, and with Ghost Controllers’ special status, they obviously can’t just operate in the city. So compared to flashy sports cars, rugged off-road vehicles are more suitable for Ghost Controllers.
“Alright, then it’s Zhang Han’s.” Zhang Qian immediately said into the phone, “Put it at your place for now. Later I’ll have Zhang Han come handle the transfer. Wait, can you even transfer ownership if the owner’s dead?”
“Don’t worry, these are minor issues.”
Not long after, vehicles started appearing sporadically on the opposite road, clearly meaning Headquarters had lifted the highway blockade.
Meanwhile, in a certain deep mountain.
On the satellite map, this was an uninhabited area, but in reality, it was a military forbidden land with sentries every five steps and guards every ten.
The one protected by such tight defenses was none other than Wang Xiaoming and his laboratory.
Here, there were many display cabinets made of semi-transparent glass mixed with gold, imprisoning Fierce Ghosts of low terror levels. The plaques on the cabinets also detailed data on each Fierce Ghost.
Wang Xiaoming was wandering between these cabinets at the moment, searching for his target.
The intelligence provided by Zhang Qian gave him a direction to focus his research on temporarily.
“Balance… Looks like Republic of China Era Ghost Controllers explored this path too.”
“But what counts as balance between ghosts? Equal Supernatural Power? Complementary Killing Patterns? Or opposing Fierce Ghost abilities?”
