Chapter 33: Supernatural Balance
The heavy metal main entrance opened silently without a sound.
This was the buffer room outside the laboratory. At this moment, Wang Xiaoming was only separated from the fierce ghost by a single wall.
“You all pay attention to monitoring Xu Zheng’s various data. These are all very valuable information.”
After saying that, Wang Xiaoming locked the doorway behind him without hesitation and used the lighter to ignite the scarlet ghost candle in his hand.
The orange-yellow flame suddenly flared up. Although it wasn’t bright, it gave people a strange sense of safety.
He held the candle flame in his hand and laboriously turned the wheel in front of him, opening the final line of defense.
The candle flame was very dim and couldn’t fully illuminate the pitch black room. Wang Xiaoming could only hear faint rustling sounds coming from inside, as if some thing was scurrying around on the ground.
By the firelight, he could see pitch black ghost hair already covering the ground, with no possibility of going around it.
“I originally wanted to save a little, but it seems impossible.” Wang Xiaoming took a deep breath and plunged headfirst into the room.
Countless ghost hair wriggled quietly under his feet, and the feeling of stepping on them was similar to carpet.
The instant he touched the hair strands, Wang Xiaoming had already triggered the ghost hair’s killing pattern, but the ghost hair showed no intention of attacking him.
The ghost candle’s flame only glowed slightly brighter, accelerating its burning speed.
Wang Xiaoming wasn’t surprised and instead breathed a sigh of relief. “It’s much slower than during the experiment. The terror level of the ghost hair is indeed not high.”
This was the difference between the ghost candle and an ordinary candle. Its brightness was composed of normal candle flame and candlelight carrying supernatural power.
The light from the normal candle flame would shine into the darkness until it hit an obstacle and rebounded back to people’s eyes, thereby illuminating the darkness.
The light carrying supernatural power could instead gather around the user, forming a thing similar to a defensive field.
Within the range of this defensive field, all fierce ghosts were unable to harm people.
Relying on the ghost candle in his hand, Wang Xiaoming moved freely and unhindered in this room. After groping around for a while, he saw two blurry figures.
“The fierce ghost has taken shape but hasn’t left… This means the confrontation is still ongoing. Xu Zheng should still be alive.”
Wang Xiaoming quickened his pace. The candlelight shone on Xu Zheng’s body, and only then did he discover that his condition was utterly horrific.
A mass of pitch black hair was sprawled on Xu Zheng’s chest, with extending hair strands covering half of his body.
Behind him stood a blurry ghost shadow. Part of the ghost shadow’s form had merged into Xu Zheng’s body, causing the other half of his body to be covered in bluish-black spots.
The defensive field formed by the candlelight enveloped them. The ghost candle glowed brighter again, and its burning speed also increased.
But the effect was also very obvious. Both fierce ghosts stopped their actions under the illumination of the candlelight.
Without the supernatural corrosion, Xu Zheng slowly woke up. He opened his eyes and only then discovered that Professor Wang had actually personally entered the laboratory.
The warm candle flame immediately attracted his attention. His intuition told him this thing was unusual, and it might even be the crucial point for his survival.
Xu Zheng’s throat moved for a moment before he laboriously asked, “Professor Wang? What is this thing? It can actually suppress fierce ghost revival.”
“A kind of experimental product with very low yield. How is your condition now?” Wang Xiaoming didn’t say more.
Under the superposition of two ghosts, the ghost candle couldn’t hold out for long. Using any more would be a waste.
“The ghost hair and ghost pushes person are in a standoff. The supernatural powers were just fighting on my body, and neither could do anything to the other.”
Xu Zheng tried to get up but failed. He gave a bitter laugh. “I already lost consciousness just now. It was still this candle that woke me up. But I still can’t move now. I estimate I’ll still end up as a corpse in the end.”
Although the ghost candle could suppress the fierce ghost, Xu Zheng didn’t think this thing could save his life. How long could one candle last? Once it burned out, he would still die.
Wang Xiaoming looked at his appearance and thought for a moment before quickly coming up with a way to break the deadlock.
“Since they want to fight, just let them change places to fight.”
Then, under Xu Zheng’s surprised gaze, Wang Xiaoming grabbed the ghost hair’s main body on his chest.
Because of the ghost candle’s influence, the ghost hair showed no resistance at all and quietly lay in Wang Xiaoming’s hand, just like a realistic wig.
It was just that its touch wasn’t as smooth as it looked; instead, it was somewhat sticky, as if wrapped in some kind of blood.
Xu Zheng watched Wang Xiaoming’s actions, somewhat baffled, and asked, “What is this for?”
“The prerequisite for fierce ghost revival is the ghost’s corrosion of the human body. As long as we can restrict the ghost shadow behind you, it naturally won’t have the time to corrode you.”
Wang Xiaoming took a slight step back, isolating the fierce ghost’s form outside the candlelight. “Isn’t the ghost hair ready-made materials? It likes to bind people, so let it play with the ghost shadow properly.”
Because of the candle flame’s influence, Xu Zheng was no longer the attack target of the two ghosts. So what would they do after recovering their killing ability?
Of course, kill the other ghost that triggered the rule.
In the darkness invisible to Wang Xiaoming and Xu Zheng, the ghost hair’s strands wrapped around that blurry ghost shadow, and the ghost shadow also struggled to tear at the ghost hair on its body.
The ghost hair wanted to strangle the ghost shadow to death, and the ghost shadow also wanted to make the ghost hair’s main body completely wither.
However, ghosts were undead. If one side was stronger, it might be possible to suppress the other.
But Wang Xiaoming had specifically chosen two ghosts with relatively low terror levels for the experiment, so their supernatural powers were almost equal, and neither could do anything to the other.
As time passed, the ghost hair’s strands stopped spreading, merely barely wrapping around the ghost shadow’s form, and the ghost shadow no longer struggled or resisted, allowing the ghost hair to envelop it.
Their fight shifted from the surface to a deep-level supernatural confrontation, but in any case, a certain balance had indeed been achieved.
Xu Zheng immediately sensed the changes in the two ghosts. He said somewhat uncertainly, “It seems like… I have controlled the ghost hair? And the power of ghost pushes person is much easier to control too.”
With a thought, the hair strands on his body actually slowly receded, and the corpse spots on the other side also gradually faded.
Wang Xiaoming pondered in his mind, “People under the ghost candle’s influence are absolutely safe, so the conditions for ghost control have also been met… This method can be used to mass-produce ghost controllers.”
He observed for a while and found that Xu Zheng’s complexion had improved a lot, but he still cautiously said, “It’s still uncertain what will happen after leaving the ghost candle. Next, I’ll slowly retreat with the ghost candle. You properly feel it out.”
“No problem.” Xu Zheng said confidently.
The candlelight gradually moved away until Xu Zheng’s figure completely merged into the darkness, and he still didn’t feel any discomfort.
Moments later, Xu Zheng fully familiarized himself with the ghost hair’s ability and retracted the extended hair strands.
The laboratory’s lights shone in through the yellow glass. There were no remnants of ghost hair left on the ground.
Seeing this, Wang Xiaoming blew out the candle in his hand. “Congratulations. How does it feel to control two ghosts?”
Xu Zheng chuckled and stood up supporting himself on the wheelchair. “Better than ever before.”
