Chapter 94: Garden Old House
“Someone has already demonstrated it there.”
Zhang Qian looked at the footprints on the moss and the peeling wall plaster, deducing: “It seems someone got here before us. I just don’t know who he is or what he wants to do here. If it’s to steal things, he’s probably in for big trouble.”
Xu Zheng stood in front of the old house, tiptoeing to peer inside. Unfortunately, the wall blocked the view, and he couldn’t see anything.
He gestured at the height, and Xu Zheng felt it was somewhat impossible: “This place must be three meters high, right? Can an ordinary person climb over it?”
“People’s physiques can’t be generalized.” Zhang Qian glanced at the tightly sealed main entrance and gave up on the idea of breaking in.
He turned and walked to the wall, without any running start, just slightly bending his knees before easily leaping three meters high, steadily standing on top of the wall.
“If I can jump up here, it’s not strange if an ordinary person can climb up, right? Can’t you do it?”
“Of course I can, how could I not.” Xu Zheng controlled the fierce ghost to walk to the wall and squat down, stepping on the fierce ghost’s shoulder to successfully reach the top of the wall.
Then he carefully steadied his balance, letting the fierce ghost slowly stand up, and with a push of his hands, he climbed up.
“Let’s go, be careful.” Zhang Qian glanced at Xu Zheng and was the first to jump down from the wall.
This should be a garden-like place, with soft soil and various plants on the ground.
It seemed no one had tended to it for a long time; most of the landscape trees had already withered and died, and not a single flower-like plant could be seen. Only the weeds remained lush, even growing up to Zhang Qian’s waist.
Xu Zheng behind him took a long time with no movement, so Zhang Qian turned back and saw him squatting on the wall, trembling.
“You’re afraid of just three meters? You’re a ghost controller; even from thirteen meters, you wouldn’t die from the fall, right?”
Xu Zheng held onto the fierce ghost beside him, trembling as he said: “I wasn’t afraid before. It’s probably a lingering effect from the plane ride; I already feel a bit dizzy now.”
“Want me to give you a hand?” Zhang Qian said speechlessly.
“How are you going to…”
Before Xu Zheng finished speaking, Zhang Qian had already jumped up quickly and grabbed his ankle, giving a slight pull. Xu Zheng, who was already unsteady, immediately fell down.
“Ah!”
With a rustling sound, Xu Zheng landed in the grass, falling flat on his face.
But the ground was just weeds and mud, so he was fine. He patted off the dirt and stood up.
“That was really rough…” Xu Zheng grimaced and rubbed his arm, asking: “This place is so big; do you know which way to go now?”
This old house had a strong garden style, with ancient-style buildings combined together—carved railings and painted beams, pavilions and towers. The view was blocked by these buildings, so one couldn’t see the end at a glance.
The place they were in was just a corner of the buildings; the true scale of the buildings was still unknown.
“Just follow this brother.” Zhang Qian pointed at the traces in the grass and said.
Obvious trampling marks could be seen in the dense grass, probably left by the person who entered first.
He seemed worried about unsteady footing, stepping firmly with each step. Many weeds were trampled into the soil, forcibly creating a path.
At the end of the path was the entrance to a corridor after the main entrance.
“Wait.” Xu Zheng pulled Zhang Qian, who was about to proceed, and beckoned the fierce ghost behind him to the front.
“This place might still have danger, and the guy we’re following might not even be human. It’s better to let the ghost scout ahead.”
Although he had been with the ghost pusher person for so long, Xu Zheng had no fondness for it at all. Using it to trigger a trap was fine; he wouldn’t feel bad at all.
“Okay.”
Zhang Qian didn’t object; having something scout in an unknown environment was good.
Following the fierce ghost’s footsteps, Zhang Qian and Xu Zheng stayed vigilant for possible dangers around them.
But there was no movement anywhere around, only the rustling of the grass underfoot.
Looking around, besides garbage like water bottles and plastic bags, Zhang Qian didn’t notice anything special.
As they were about to leave the grass, Zhang Qian withdrew his gaze and looked toward the nearby corridor.
There were quite a few white things swaying on it, looking somewhat strange.
At that moment, a change suddenly occurred on a dead old tree beside the path.
A tattered yellow rope swayed on the branches in the wind, looking like garbage with nothing noteworthy.
But the direction it swung was slowly changing. Before long, it shifted from horizontal to tilting downward, vaguely pointing toward the moving group.
Not only that, the end of the rope bent under some unknown force, wriggling upward a distance before tying a noose on the rope.
The rope loop swayed back and forth between the three figures, as if hesitating which prey to pick.
In the end, it chose the ghost pusher person in the lead. The entire rope went taut, shooting out the instant the fierce ghost passed under the tree.
“Rustle—”
The huge sound startled the two.
Zhang Qian immediately looked toward the sound and saw the dead tree beside him bend into a huge arc for some reason, but it restored to normal in an instant.
“What the hell?”
Amid Xu Zheng’s shout of surprise, the cloaked fierce ghost’s figure rose rapidly into the air, hanging from the treetop in the blink of an eye, swaying like a sunny doll.
“We encountered a fierce ghost this quickly? This place is indeed not peaceful.” Zhang Qian narrowed his eyes and spotted the culprit hidden at the fierce ghost’s neck under the cloak: “Rope?”
The ghost pusher person seemed unable to find its target, flailing its hands in the air while many pitch black ghost hair emerged from its body.
However, these attacks had no effect and didn’t hit the enemy Xu Zheng imagined.
Zhang Qian reminded: “The opponent is a piece of rope, now looped around your fierce ghost’s neck. Can you handle it yourself, or do you need help?”
“No need, this thing’s supernatural power isn’t strong.” Xu Zheng refused.
Knowing the target’s identity, the ghost hair immediately wrapped around the rope loop on the cloak and then enveloped the entire rope.
The fierce ghost began to fight back, and the rope quickly lost. Under the ghost hair’s assault, it loosened, letting the ghost pusher person fall.
But Xu Zheng wouldn’t let it go. He controlled the ghost pusher person to reach out and grab it before falling: “Hand it over.”
The fierce ghost fell to the ground and opened its hand, revealing the tattered rope wrapped in ghost hair.
Xu Zheng glanced at it and handed it to Zhang Qian, shrugging: “It doesn’t look special, and the terror level isn’t high. It just got one over on me.”
“Even if it’s weak, it’s still a fierce ghost. Taking it back to headquarters is fine.” Zhang Qian wasn’t too interested in this kind of fierce ghost now and just took out a small bag to hand to Xu Zheng.
“You imprison it yourself. I didn’t put in any effort; no reason for me to pick up a fierce ghost for free.”
