Chapter 51: Treant
“Are you f\*\*king crazy? Why are you attacking me instead of the mutated plants!”
Zhao Feng berated Liu Cong, who, covered in blood, smiled grimly: “You want to run after trapping us here? Dream on!”
“If I get out, I can find reinforcements!”
Quan Jian: “Go to hell with your reinforcements, I’ll kill you first!”
With that, he nimbly dodged the vines and ran towards Zhao Feng, launching ice cones at him without hesitation.
Zhao Feng’s golden shield instantly blocked in front of him, but who knew that a vine from behind would pierce directly into his heart.
With a muffled groan, Zhao Feng’s blood slowly flowed out along the vine, and he slowly fell to the ground.
Before Quan Jian could celebrate,
a sharp pain shot up from his foot. When he looked down, a giant flower leaped from the ground and swallowed him whole.
“Third brother!”
Liu Cong, dodging the vines, saw Quan Jian being eaten by a suddenly appearing flower and cried out in shock.
But the next second,
he was sent flying by a branch.
The flood dragon had been waiting in the forest for a long time. It opened its massive maw, and Liu Cong was precisely dropped into the flood dragon’s mouth like a plump morsel.
Sang Chu and the others emerged from the shadows. Seeing the ground littered with corpses and strange flowers busily cleaning up the battlefield, they shivered, their spines chilling.
If their weapons didn’t belong to this world, they would have been completely defenseless against these mutated plants.
Sang Jing Wen: “These mutated plants are so powerful, why was New City cleaned up so thoroughly, and why can they even use these plants to research medicine?”
Lu Min Feng suddenly thought of Xiao Yi Fei’s mother’s supernatural ability: “Could it be related to mental power supernatural ability users?”
Currently, they knew nothing about mental power supernatural ability, but if Xiao Yi Fei’s mother was not the problem, then mental power supernatural ability must be.
Sang Chu: “It’s possible. Since our neighbors are so powerful, we should be safe for now. Everyone, quickly improve your mental power.”
She suggested that everyone focus on cultivating mental power, as mental power has a bonus effect on supernatural abilities, which she had personally tested and found effective.
Xiao Yi Fei: “What about my mom?”
Sang Chu: “Brother Yi, don’t worry. Except for the underground city, everything else at the base is normal. Everyone go back and rest for a bit. I have some matters to discuss with our new neighbor.”
Sang Jing Wen: “Then be careful yourself. We’re heading back.”
“Okay.”
As they left, the flood dragon flew to Sang Chu and looked at her with anticipation in its eyes.
“Take me to find Tree Elder first.”
The flood dragon nodded and motioned for Sang Chu to sit on its back.
As she climbed onto the flood dragon, it was so slippery that she almost fell to her death.
“Slow down, you’re too slippery!”
Before Sang Chu could finish complaining, the flood dragon had already flown away at lightning speed. Sang Chu could only turn her hands and feet into vines and tie herself securely to the flood dragon.
“Slow down, slow down!!!!”
The speed was so fast, the wind howled, making Sang Chu feel dizzy and disoriented.
When the flood dragon stopped, Sang Chu’s eyes were red, and her vision was so blurred that she saw double.
“What, what, what is this thing!”
Sang Chu was so shocked by the scene before her that her mouth hung open.
Seeing her terrified expression, the flood dragon nudged her forward with its head disdainfully.
Trembling all over, Sang Chu was suddenly pushed forward, stumbling a step. Looking at the horrifying giant tree, she couldn’t help but swallow hard.
“Are, are you our new neighbor?”
“Yes.”
The other party’s voice was hoarse, like that of a ninety-year-old elder.
There was no light underground; the only light source was the faint glow from Sang Chu’s optical computer. Following this light, she could barely make out the things before her.
They were dozens of ‘treants’ intertwined with a giant tree, including men, women, elders, and children.
The scene was indescribable; in a word, it was eerie!
Sang Chu had seen zombies and monsters, but this was her first time encountering such strange creatures.
Sang Chu: “You, do you need to see me for something?”
Hearing Sang Chu’s words, the treant’s branches, like its hands, quietly extended and pointed at the flood dragon: “I, want, your, food, like, his!”
The sentence was spoken in several different tones, including those of a woman and a child. In the dim underground, the sound was even more chilling.
Sang Chu clenched her fists tightly, her fingernails digging red marks into her palms: “I can give it to you, but you have to tell me what you are.”
The treant suddenly looked at Sang Chu in unison, their gazes sharp enough to cut her to pieces.
“I don’t know either. We became like this after we woke up. Our legs are entangled with branches and rooted deep underground. We can only survive by growing outwards and touching the moonlight. But it’s different for him; as long as he has that thing, we can live without moonlight.”
This was the reason for its cooperation with Sang Chu. Fear of her new weapons? Nonsense, those things could only kill newly sprouted saplings.
If Sang Chu knew that the sapling it referred to was the towering tree from before, she would have a very different expression.
Sang Chu: “You want spirit stone jade?”
“I don’t know what it’s called. I only know that the blood moon is changing. When it was at its strongest, it could allow us to break through the earth. But its power is weakening. You have many enemies, and you need my help, while I need the jade you mentioned.”
The blood moon’s power is weakening?
It seemed she wasn’t mistaken; the red moon was indeed moving!
Since the apocalypse, the silver moon had gradually turned red and hung in the sky, never moving an inch. But when the mutated plants emerged, she clearly felt the blood moon’s position shift slightly.
When she told Mu Xue, Mu Xue didn’t believe her.
But now, it seemed her feeling was correct.
The blood moon was indeed changing, but the change was too subtle to be seen with the naked eye.
However, these mutated plants could, because they relied on the blood moon’s power to grow.
Sang Chu: “What will happen to you if the blood moon’s power weakens?”
The treant shook its head: “We don’t know. We might weaken, or we might die.”
Their eyes were fixed on Sang Chu, not missing a single change on her face. The flood dragon was also watching her, as if waiting for her decision.
Sang Chu: “I can give it to you, but I want the wood cores that grew from your bodies before.”
“Agreed.”
The treant spat out several crystal cores emitting a green light. Sang Chu was stunned for a moment and asked, “You are not afraid of supernatural abilities. Can you tell me why?”
The treant shook its head: “We don’t know. Instinct tells us that thing is not scary.”
Sang Chu: “How many other species are like you?”
The treant: “I don’t know. I haven’t been outside, but this entire mountain top is my territory. The trees that grow here are all my branches. I need to constantly split out trees, vines, and flowers to absorb moonlight.”
Sang Chu suspected that the ticket holder mentioned by Tu You might have been killed by such treants. These treants hid beneath the earth’s core, and ordinary people wouldn’t see them.
