Chapter 7: Encounter
When the Monster Transformation Frog died, everyone felt like they were dreaming.
They all stood still, not moving,
until Sang Chu used the Miniature Medical Pod in her hand on the child who had escaped the frog’s maw, saving his life.
Zuo Xue Feng looked at her deeply and finally came back to his senses: “You are Sang Chu?”
She nodded, her long sword slicing through her clothes, wiping away the bloodstains: “Sorry, when we met that day, I had just woken up and my throat was a bit problematic, so I couldn’t speak.”
“No, it’s fine. Have you been hunting monsters in the wilderness?”
“Mm.”
Zuo Xue Feng: “No wonder Hua Xi couldn’t find you. Later, she found a mercenary with the same name in the mercenary mall who had uploaded images of monsters from a storage box for the optical computer to calculate their value. She was shocked then, thinking it wasn’t you, but I didn’t expect…”
Seeing her display this skill today, Zuo Xue Feng had no doubt that the female mercenary who earned the sky-high bounty was Sang Chu.
Cao Dianhui was covered in sweat. He took off his helmet, shook the sweat from his hair, and walked over:
“Thank you for your help. My name is Cao Dianhui. May I ask how you managed to kill the Monster Transformation Frog?”
This was very important to them. Zuo Xue Feng also looked at Sang Chu with anticipation.
Sang Chu took out her long sword: “This is a weapon I found in the Earth Dragon Nest. It’s strange, but very useful. It can kill monsters.
Also, sharpened bamboo can pierce the skin of monsters. I set up traps in the bamboo forest over there, and I used them to hunt a Monster Transformation Frog. Rocks, trees, and the like, as long as they are sharpened, can attack monsters.”
Liu Weipeng: “No way? These things are more effective than our weapons?”
Sang Chu knew they couldn’t accept it all at once, so she opened the images from her storage box:
“It’s probably a matter of mutual restraint. The Monster Transformation Frog was killed by me with bamboo. Those bees, mosquitoes, and mutated small creatures were lured into traps I set and then suffocated by fire.
The crocodile was killed by being pierced with sharp rocks. The Earth Dragon was strangled by vines. I was afraid it would regenerate, so I kept it wrapped up and didn’t dare to take it apart. This can’t be faked. You’ll know when you try it next time.”
Looking at the contents of her storage box, who would dare to doubt her words? They all widened their eyes, afraid of missing even a single weapon that could strangle a monster.
Kang Liqian looked at the yellow long saber in her hand, which was different from a laser knife.
“You said you found this saber in the Earth Dragon Nest. Why aren’t there any monsters killed by a saber in your monster images?”
Sang Chu scratched her head with a slight embarrassment: “When I got it, I was very curious, so I tried it on a dead monster, and then I cut up a long-tailed fish and roasted it to eat.”
“Hahaha”
Seeing her somewhat embarrassed look, the group of mercenaries burst into hearty laughter. Zuo Xue Feng patted her shoulder:
“There’s nothing to be embarrassed about. It’s normal to want to eat meat after being in the wilderness for a long time!”
Kang Liqian hadn’t expected this either; he was just genuinely curious: “Then, Sang Chu, could you please help us cut some things with your saber later?”
Liu Weipeng: “Yes, yes, yes. We caught a few wild pheasants. Can you help me prepare them?”
Sang Chu: “Yes.”
Zuo Xue Feng: “Sang Chu, this Monster Transformation Frog is your spoils of war. Quickly put it away. Do you want to rest at our temporary base?”
Sang Chu looked at Zuo Xue Feng: “Don’t you want this Monster Transformation Frog?”
The bounty for the Monster Transformation Frog was very high. She had wanted to suggest splitting the money with them, but seeing how many people they had injured, and that Zuo Xue Feng had saved her before, she felt too embarrassed to bring up splitting the money.
But she really needed money.
Cao Dianhui: “You hunted this Monster Transformation Frog, how can we take it from you? Quickly, quickly, after you put it away, come back to our temporary base with us. I want to eat roasted pheasant!”
Food was more attractive to them than the Monster Transformation Frog.
For mercenaries like them, who killed the monster was not important at all. What was important was that the monster was dead, and their teammates were safe. This made them happier than getting the bounty.
Moreover, they had learned so much important information. When they returned, they would definitely get the images from Sang Chu’s storage box from the mercenary guild.
As long as this hunting technique could be spread to more people, casualties could be greatly reduced on future missions.
Hearing their words, Sang Chu was deeply shocked. She had never imagined that the people in this Monster Transformation World were like this.
She had originally thought that Zuo Xue Feng and Hua Xi were just very kind people,
but now it seemed that most people in the Monster Transformation World were kind.
Sang Chu had originally intended to sell the Golden Long Sword for money, but now she was staring blankly at the long sword in her hand.
Tu You, seeing her absentminded look: 【Are you okay, A Chu? 】
Seeing that she didn’t answer, Tu You just squatted on her shoulder, watching her cleanly process the Level Five monster brought by the mercenaries.
Without a word.
Zuo Xue Feng sat down beside her: “A Chu, are you alright?”
Sang Chu shook her head. Liu Weipeng worried that she was unhappy because they had given her too many monsters to process, and quickly said:
“A Chu, you don’t need to process so many. This is enough! You just sit and wait to eat. Our cooking skills are excellent!”
Sang Chu stopped her hands and looked at them. Seeing the concern written on each of their faces, she took a deep breath and handed the long sword in her hand to Zuo Xue Feng.
“I like living in the wilderness, and I might find more things like this. I’ll give you this sword as a thank you for saving me.”
Zuo Xue Feng: “No, no, this is your thing, how can I take it?”
Liu Weipeng: “Yes, A Chu, this is something you got from hunting monsters. It’s clearly a rare resource. Keep it for yourself!”
“It’s precisely because it’s a rare resource that I want to give it to you. If you have this thing, you’ll be much safer in the wilderness. You are good people, and I hope you can all stay safe.”
Sang Chu’s words made Zuo Xue Feng fall silent. Mercenary missions were inherently life-or-death. If the chance of survival could be increased, everyone would want to live well.
But they couldn’t stop going out to clear monsters.
The more monsters there were, the less land suitable for human habitation there would be.
Zuo Xue Feng: “A Chu, I don’t want to refuse. Everyone knows the power of this thing, but we can’t let you give it away for free. I will give it to Dr. Li, and you will still get what you deserve.”
“It’s okay, please accept it. I want to go to that Earth Dragon Nest later. I didn’t search it thoroughly. What if there’s more!”
Cao Dianhui: “Silly girl, the people in charge are rich. You don’t need to be polite. Take what you deserve. However, this thing is indeed good. Where is that nest? We’ll go with you. More people means more strength.”
“It’s in the deep pit not far from here. You guys eat first, there’s no rush.”
She had to seize the time to condense gold for Tu You to carry and throw it in. They couldn’t see Tu You, so she could use this to her advantage.
