Chapter 117: Blizzard On The Road
The wind swirled snowflakes through the desolate highway, landing on the windshield and rearview mirror, with a layer of crushed snow piling up on the car front.
The road ahead had already blended into the snowy ground on both sides amid the gale, with a constant humming buzz in the ears; every meter forward felt incredibly difficult, more vehicles were stalled on the road, and some were leaking oil and exploding with a bang.
Yu Jiang turned on the fog light.
This was a vehicle part she made with a scroll, with stronger penetration than ordinary fog lights.
It was said to illuminate, but it was more like dispelling the visual obstruction in heavy fog and blizzard weather, covering 20 meters in front of the vehicle and 20 meters to the rear of the vehicle; beyond that, it reverted to ordinary fog light effect.
With clear visibility, driving became much steadier.
The blizzard was gradually intensifying; if they didn’t leave soon, they would really have to spend the night on the parallel road.
There were plenty of vehicle lights lit up front and back, clearly not a good idea.
The RV steadily moved forward, and suddenly two vehicles appeared in the illuminated path ahead: one with its front wheel stuck in a snow-covered drainage ditch, the other tilted and blocking across nearly half the road surface.
Even further ahead was a white old-fashioned car parked, and the owners of several cars seemed to be one team.
Since they weren’t moving, the cars behind could only squeeze through the remaining half; speed was already slow, and with passage efficiency further bottlenecked, the road was getting congested.
The weather was too harsh now, visibility blurred; one might not even notice getting knocked out from behind.
Everyone locked their vehicles, stayed vigilant about surrounding movement, and kept a relatively safe distance front and rear; those close together were basically a group.
Thus, the owners of those three problematic vehicles ahead had been holding help request signs roadside for a long time with no one paying attention.
Yu Jiang lightly tapped the steering wheel with her finger, distant tall cedar trees turning into dark outlines, gradually blending into the night.
Vehicles loomed vaguely front and back, faint cries and pleas mixed in the gale, direction unclear; just moments ago, a Chopped Chili Fish Head had been blown sideways.
The light screen showed today’s mileage at 460km, fatigue value 40%, status still good.
As Yu Jiang was thinking, a thumping knock sounded at the car door.
Her tires were large, position high, so visibility range wasn’t great; movement from the side couldn’t be spotted in time.
However, such rhythmic knocking should be a person.
At the same time, the current road channel showed a broadcast message.
“Emergency help request! We’re the two cars ahead, stalled in the snowy ground, requesting to borrow a towing rope to pull us out.”
This used a broadcast card; this thing was relatively cheap because it had no other uses and exposed one’s position.
Yu Jiang ignored the knocking outside; as the car ahead started, she drove forward a bit first, then saw someone covered in fallen snow running up outside, raising hands toward her rearview mirror to show no weapon in hand.
Kuang Kuang Kuang was more convenient getting on and off the vehicle, so she got out first to ask what the other wanted.
Yu Jiang kept her gaze fixed outside the window, preventing any moves from the other; this was the easiest time to muddle through, especially with their team so obvious as a goal.
Less than two minutes later, Kuang Kuang Kuang returned to the vehicle, the other retreating to the roadside; face and gender unclear, but the hunched back and shaky steps conveyed their urgency.
“It’s the people using the broadcast card for help; they have no towing rope, want to ask us for help, say they can exchange with one piece of information.” Kuang Kuang Kuang added, “Their team are all females.”
She sent it in voice in the team, everyone could hear.
Yu Jiang: “What do you all think?”
Getting out meant increased risk, information might not be valuable, but they did have a towing rope.
Pure Love Cockroach Spicy Spicy: “If they have no other motives, how about we still help?”
Hand Holding Cleaver Chopping Wire: “Sure, not much effort, what if the info is useful?”
Shi Xu: “I have no opinion, I’ll go with you.”
And so, three stayed to guard, Yu Jiang and Shi Xu went together, driving Shi Xu’s vehicle.
Yu Jiang put on her scarf and hat, arrived in front of the two vehicles, “Tell the message first.”
Her hand in the pocket while speaking held a knife.
“There’s a small water sprinkler truck sprinkling water while moving, making the snow on the road extremely slippery; their vehicle seems to get large amounts of water every day.”
A mobile super water collector?
Interesting; if recycled, wonder if it could yield good things.
The other was also covered up tightly, face unseen, voice somewhat uneasy, fearing Yu Jiang would find the message worthless and leave.
“We really have no extra supplies; no gains all day today.” The other said again.
People from ahead had come over too, not really to help, just to see if they could opportunistically grab supplies from their vehicle.
And the medium truck leading team’s group had whistled, offering to trade for something else from the three of them, eyes making one very uncomfortable.
After they refused, that person disdainfully threatened that their vehicle couldn’t move and they’d just die waiting, don’t come kneeling begging later.
The vehicle was parked ahead, lights still flashing, just like vultures circling overhead waiting for prey to fully expire before swooping in.
They were truly out of options, didn’t want to wait to die, didn’t want to trade with such disgusting people, so risked coming to the RV team for help.
The RV team people were very cautious, always keeping three steps away, as if any anomaly would lead to them striking to kill.
And it was true; not far off, Kuang Kuang Kuang had arrow nocked.
Precisely because of this caution, and that it was girls who came down, the few female players felt a bit relieved.
“I can lend you the towing rope, but I want 50 crystal coins, or one broadcast card.” Yu Jiang spoke.
Could help, but had to take something as a gesture; otherwise, with so many help requests on this road now, plenty looting in a fire too.
“Thank you, thank you so much!” The lead player excitedly pulled out a broadcast card.
Yu Jiang didn’t go over to take it, directly did player trade; for safety, she didn’t want to get too close to strangers.
Player trade exposed nickname, not a big deal; the team was already eye-catching, no difference.
Yu Jiang took the broadcast card, tossed one end of the towing rope over, the other end Shi Xu tied to his vehicle, and it could drag the car out.
The whole process took little time; with cooperation from both sides, the vehicle drove out of the snowy ground.
The other returned the towing rope with thanks; both sides didn’t say much, all wanting to quickly return to vehicles and continue forward.
Especially the stalled team; plenty watching them around, had to hurry after finally getting free.
Only, when Runaway Mother Monkey gave thanks, the face hidden under the scarf couldn’t hide the excitement.
Facing Wealth Ranking Number One big shot! No wonder they had an RV!
Good thing they met the big shot today, or they might really be done for.
At this time, on the vehicle behind, the one holding binoculars had a gloomy face: “They’re pretty lucky.”
Gaze shifted back to the RV team, hatefully saying, “Ruined my plans!”
Several good vehicles had appeared on this stretch: besides the RV ahead, INKAS Sentry off-road vehicle, and a six-wheel Humvee behind; this was also why they didn’t dare act directly.
Feared causing movement that would draw attention to their own team.
“Can you see the situation inside the RV?” The person nearby asked.
