Chapter 95: Teaming Up To Set Fire
Yu Jiang moved along the rooftop, scavenging supplies while noting the farm terrain, hunkering down until late into the night.
She headed toward the lit-up spots, searching for the diesel generator and precious diesel, and finally found it behind the main house.
There was a sheet metal house here, with a patch of cement ground in front, and the air was filled with a faint bloody smell.
There were generator wires on the ground, and Yu Jiang cautiously hugged the wall as she slowly approached.
The scene inside was truly shocking; she had eaten a piece of bread on the rooftop at night and already felt uncomfortable.
Players hung from the large iron meat hooks like in a slaughterhouse, and the ground was pitch black, layered with countless levels of dried bloodstains to create this effect.
Cold wind swayed the crude light bulb, and on the filthy table were a bloody saw and large pliers.
Too tragic.
The generator couldn’t be touched now; if the power went out, mutants would come running, so find diesel first.
She got lucky; there were two barrels in the corner, totaling 10 liters. Just as she collected them, she heard movement from one side.
Yu Jiang quickly raised her harpoon gun and crouched in a blind spot.
If it was a mutant coming, she’d stab it first then run, chipping off as much health points as possible.
Her finger rested on the trigger, and the sounds outside grew closer.
Yu Jiang held her breath and stared intently. As her finger slowly applied pressure, the person holding the gun barrel appeared before her, and both sides let out a long sigh of relief at the same time.
Luckily everyone kept a steady mindset and hand, or seeing a figure and opening fire immediately would’ve meant not killing the mutant yet but first striking a teammate.
“You scared me, it’s you, little sister.” Big Sister No. 2 lowered the sickle in her hand,
“They’re searching everywhere for us, so don’t make a sound. Two just chased after No. 4 and No. 5. Did you find any diesel?”
“I just got here and saw the generator.” Yu Jiang definitely wouldn’t mention the supplies she had obtained,
“The second kill announcement was you two, right? Scavenging supplies like this sneakily is too inefficient. Cooperate? Let’s take down the mutants together and grab the supplies directly.”
Uncle No. 10 didn’t agree immediately but first sized up Yu Jiang for a good while.
He and No. 2 really weren’t great at fighting; bullet quantity was limited, and killing one mutant consumed several shots. They could only restock once they reached the service area or encountered the black-faced monster merchant.
Hand-rolling gunpowder was very hard to do.
He originally didn’t want to fight, just wanted to grab some supplies and hide; he was a hunter, and mutants couldn’t track him easily.
Now they could cooperate with No. 1; three people against four mutants still had a good chance.
No need to worry about kill rewards; players who got the kills would get more at instance settlement, and output from others would automatically be distributed.
“Taking them down won’t be easy; we haven’t seen much supplies so far, and it’s unclear if all this effort is worth it.” Big Sister No. 2 spoke in a casual chat tone and sighed.
This was negotiating terms, waiting for Yu Jiang to offer valuable info.
“There’s such a large planting ground on the farm behind; though abandoned, it can still be gathered for lots of supplies. I found the storage warehouse location, but it’s locked and hard to get into. Plus, I have a healing skill.” Yu Jiang showed her sincerity.
Hearing this, Uncle No. 10’s expression turned serious. “Really?! You can heal?”
They’d find the warehouse sooner or later anyway; the farm wasn’t that big. With a healing skill plus a healing potion, that was nearly half health.
“20 health points.” Yu Jiang lowered her voice. “If we’re cooperating, you two share your skills too.”
The two in front of her exchanged a glance and made a decision.
Big Sister No. 2 spoke first. “Mine is the agricultural sickle; its biggest use is fast crop gathering.”
Yu Jiang nodded, thinking to herself that it wasn’t slow for killing people either.
“You probably guessed my profession: hunter. Skill tracks targets within 20 meters, but I only have 6 bullets.” Uncle No. 10 also held some back.
“No. 3 just said in the channel that you’re a big shot. Any ideas on what to do next?” Big Sister No. 2 asked again.
“I’m just a low combat power player.” Yu Jiang shook her head. “No super complex ideas, just guerrilla tactics: hit and run.”
“As long as we’re sneaky enough, we can definitely grind them down.” Yu Jiang added.
Both players were hiding their strength, masters at playing weak to eat the strong; sneaky tactics were no issue.
It was just that without a team, they couldn’t see each other’s positions, so where to run and how to coordinate was a problem.
“The diesel generator still has fuel. Burn this house down; it’s where mutants process food, so it should be important to them, or they wouldn’t put the diesel generator here.”
Yu Jiang kept a straight face. “Better than us living in fear of being killed from behind.”
“Won’t that burn the supplies?” Big Sister No. 2 was a bit worried.
That was why no one dared throw molotov cocktails; if supplies burned, there’d be no point playing.
“No, the front is cement ground, the nearby plants are all damp weeds, and the firewood stacking area is far away. It’s just a shame about this diesel.” Uncle No. 10 thought for a moment, then continued,
“I’ve repaired the generator at home before; you two won’t use it anyway. No objection if I dismantle some parts? I can take less of the later supplies.”
Yu Jiang: “No objection.”
A diesel generator plus a converter could provide energy for an electric car, but this thing was too heavy to fit in a grid, and carrying it was troublesome.
“But can we wait for me to charge a bit before dismantling? I have a bottle of white wine here; if you’re reluctant to use diesel, this works too.”
As Yu Jiang spoke, she pulled out a bottle of sauce fragrance white wine. Uncle No. 10 opened his mouth but hesitated.
“Back in the day, I’d only had cheap stuff and never dreamed of this. Use it as fuel? How about kerosene instead? Will you sell the wine?”
Yu Jiang handed it to the uncle without a word. “When we split supplies, I’ll take extra medicinal herbs from the planting ground.”
“Deal!” Uncle No. 10 happily pocketed the white wine.
With supplies allocation settled, the three crouched in the grass outside and waited a good while longer, discussing tactics.
The diesel generator had to be preserved, so they needed to figure out how to move it out first.
There was a cart with wheels underneath, but pushing it made a thunderous noise; they tried it briefly and quickly stopped.
Yu Jiang hunkered outside the sheet metal house, on the left side piled with clutter, first checking the instance channel situation. No. 2 and No. 10 were very patient too.
Right now, No. 3 and No. 4, 5 were asking about mutant positions. They had run, sure, but lost track of the enemies; in the pitch dark, it was terrifying.
No. 3 Leather Jacket: 【Which big shot fired the shot? Can you share monster positions? It’s pitch black all around, my health points aren’t even 50; I don’t dare go out for supplies anymore, just want to avoid danger.】
No. 4 Lingering Fear: 【Big brothers and big sisters, where are you all? Can we meet up and move together?】
No. 1 Yu Jiang: 【Discussing: we’re preparing to strike proactively, take down the mutants. Join us and use a kill announcement as your token, or let us grab supplies first.】
She deliberately said ‘we’ to let the others know she had teamed up with the players from the second mutant kill.
