Chapter 175: House Of Evil Ghosts
“I can be caught at most one more time, then I must switch apartments.”
She didn’t want to use the pocket watch multiple times, and tonight would definitely be extremely dangerous, so she had to reserve the pocket watch’s usage time for tonight. Her shadow puppet was already damaged by nearly half, and even non-fatal attacks, if endured a few more times, would probably cause it to break.
As for the other supernatural props, their effectiveness on the Class A Platform was truly limited, and she couldn’t rely on them too much.
“Since I can’t confront the ghost head-on a few more times, I have to head to 302 now.”
To leave room for unexpected encounters on the way.
Lu Jinzhao no longer paid attention to Tan Meng slowly chasing behind her and lifted her somewhat fatigued legs to run toward the third floor.
Passing by the second floor, she glanced into the corridor, which was empty.
It seemed that her three ghost teammates couldn’t communicate with each other unless they were together, and the other two ghosts were still unaware that she was taking the stairs back to the third floor.
“This is best.”
The clothes on Lu Jinzhao’s body had been soaked by the blood slowly seeping out, but the backpack’s capacity and weight were limited, so she had to keep it at a level that wouldn’t affect her movement or add a burden. Therefore, she hadn’t brought extra clothes and could only continue wearing this set of clothes that felt somewhat uncomfortable due to being stained with blood.
The sticky feeling of the blood-soaked fabric clinging to her skin always reminded her of the sensation when Tan Meng’s skin had pressed against hers earlier—sticky and disgusting.
Every time she moved, the clothes sticking to the wounds without skin protection would separate, always bringing an extra burst of pain.
When there were too many wounds on her body, even though Lu Jinzhao was very tolerant of pain, she would feel troubled by the mere act of walking becoming painful.
She quickly ran to the third floor. There were no ghosts in the stairwell. Lu Jinzhao didn’t hesitate any longer and rushed into 302, decisively switching the apartment space.
“It probably won’t take them too long to find me.”
Based on previous experience, although the ghosts couldn’t immediately locate which apartment she was in, they seemed able to sense her as soon as they switched to the same apartment as her.
The only good news right now was that the white cloth here had been lifted—this wasn’t a brand-new apartment, but one she had been to before.
Even without knowing the consequences of switching spaces, Lu Jinzhao instinctively didn’t want to go to a new apartment anymore.
She only switched once, then sat down on the dirty ground near the door, taking bandages from her backpack to wrap key areas like her ankle, knee, and elbow.
She didn’t have enough bandages and could only treat these key spots. Then she simply ate something to replenish her stamina and slumped in the pool of blood, gasping for breath.
Whenever she heard movement from the adjacent room, Lu Jinzhao would switch apartments just before the ghost opened the door.
This saved her a lot of energy, but the intangible pressure accumulated more and more with each door switch, almost condensing into something substantial, making it hard for her to breathe when she touched the door.
This “pressure” came from the depths of her heart, her subconscious.
Her brain was warning her that continuing like this was dangerous.
“But what method do I have?” Lu Jinzhao sighed helplessly.
If she didn’t switch apartments, she’d have to face those three teammates head-on. Just one clash had forced her to use the pocket watch to escape.
As for climbing out the window, that wouldn’t work now either—her finger bones were broken and couldn’t support her clinging to the window edge anymore.
She wasn’t slacking off or thinking this method was convenient and safe; she truly had no other options.
After Lu Jinzhao switched the apartment space for the seventh time, the sun had set.
The orange dusk penetrated the newspaper on the window and seeped into the room. Lu Jinzhao noticed that it had been nearly an hour since those three teammates had come looking for her.
It definitely wasn’t because they were lost.
“Is it the rules on the blackboard restricting them?”
“Or… for some other reason?”
If it wasn’t the rules, then what else in the apartment could restrict them?
As the sky gradually darkened, Lu Jinzhao turned on the light. The already dim light was dyed dark red by the large amount of blood in the room. Lu Jinzhao felt that whether it was the room she was in, the smell in her nose, or the clothes on her body, nothing was unrelated to “blood.”
It was as if she had been immersed in a world of blood.
When the sun completely set, Lu Jinzhao’s nerves tensed up once again.
She released the shadow puppet, positioning it on the last spot on the ceiling not yet stained red by blood, but that small area could hold out for at most two minutes. No, if tonight’s “anomaly” was more intense, perhaps even two minutes wouldn’t be possible.
However, after the sun completely set, the anomaly did appear, but it was different from before.
It started “raining” inside the room.
Large amounts of blood-red “raindrops” dripped from the ceiling. The ground, which had only a thin film of blood water, began to accumulate, just like puddles in a heavy rain.
Even worse, the raindrops falling on the three corpses didn’t slide off but were absorbed.
This was an extremely ominous phenomenon. Lu Jinzhao immediately realized where tonight’s danger would come from!
“In the previous nights, all the anomalies hinted that the danger came from inside the walls.”
“Now, the blood rain from inside the walls is being absorbed by the corpses in the room—they’ll become the medium for the ghost inside the walls?”
And this room dyed red with blood.
Thinking about this took only two seconds in her mind. Then, Lu Jinzhao immediately made a decision. She rushed to the window, trying to break it, but…
The window in 302 wasn’t like the restroom one; she couldn’t break it, not even with the shadow puppet.
It was too late. Lu Jinzhao ignored the window, reached out to grab a corpse’s arm, and dragged it to the door. She wanted to throw the corpse outside.
She didn’t know if it would work, but at least she had to try.
What made Lu Jinzhao feel fortunate was that while she was grabbing and moving the corpse, the blood-stained corpse didn’t suddenly come back to life or exhibit any other anomalies.
“Maybe there’s still time?”
Thinking this, she opened the door to 302, preparing to throw the corpse out.
Turning the door handle had no resistance. It seemed room 302 didn’t resist her leaving.
This made Lu Jinzhao feel a bit strange. In that instant, she thought of many things, even imagining the horror of her three teammates suddenly standing at the door waiting for her.
Fortunately, after opening the door, she didn’t see her teammates.
But unfortunately, after opening the door, she saw a field of bright red.
No corridor, no room across the way—just a room identical to 302 and three identical corpses.
It was as if she were standing in the corridor right now, having opened the door to 302.
Lu Jinzhao looked back. Behind her was still the familiar 302, and since she was holding one of the corpses, there were only two corpses left in the room.
She looked forward again. Yes, still 302.
The corridor had disappeared—or rather, everything except room 302 had disappeared.
