Chapter 31: Loss Of Control
Wei Ling’s complexion was slightly pale, fear filling her mind.
She didn’t dare think about what the consequences would be if Lu Jinzhao hadn’t pulled her that time, and she had rushed out too.
She did have a supernatural item on her, but it couldn’t support her safely surviving a long night under the ghost’s attack!
“The train sent us to this ghost place, isn’t it sending us to our deaths?” Wei Ling couldn’t help but curse.
Hearing this, Lu Jinzhao tugged the corner of her mouth into a somewhat sarcastic smile: “Do you know why I dared to be sure this is a relatively safe place?”
She didn’t keep them in suspense, and directly gave the answer under Wei Ling’s doubtful gaze.
“Because from the beginning, the train dropped us here.”
Dropped into the out-of-control Qu Xiang, the only safe point.
The train wouldn’t directly let passengers die; even the most difficult missions would certainly have a way to survive, and once passengers enter the out-of-control Qu Xiang, they would be locked onto by the ghost, directly triggering the ghost’s taboo. The train wouldn’t do that.
At least, a Class C train wouldn’t do that.
So, it dropped them inside the ancestral hall, dropped them on the way to survive.
But without any warning, passengers simply couldn’t stay in the ancestral hall for 24 hours from getting off until boarding!
They would walk out of the ancestral hall themselves!
Realizing this, even though she had known early on about the train’s cruelty and ruthlessness, Wei Ling still couldn’t help but feel a chill in her heart.
In her view, this was still no different from directly sending them to their deaths.
It was just a bit more euphemistic.
“Then can we just stay here?”
Wei Ling looked at Lu Jinzhao, her heart full of unease. The remaining time was too long; she always felt that some danger hadn’t been noticed yet.
“No.” Lu Jinzhao shook her head.
“Did you forget? We just came in from outside.”
“We have already violated the taboo.”
The ghost would come to kill them.
“That’s right…” Wei Ling annoyed herself inwardly; in her excessive shock, she had actually forgotten such an obvious thing!
“But if we’re going to die, wouldn’t it be those who left here who die first?”
Indeed, Lu Jinzhao nodded.
“The ancestral hall does have some protection effect, but it definitely can’t ensure that after violating the taboo, we can still stay here safely until boarding.”
Something else would definitely happen.
“You two… are you telling the truth?”
Behind the two, a woman’s voice quietly sounded.
The two were startled by this sudden sound. When they immediately turned to look, they saw a figure who shouldn’t be standing there!
“Xu Ruolin?!”
Wei Ling’s voice was somewhat distorted due to terror and surprise. She immediately looked toward Xu Ruolin’s corpse, but there was nothing there anymore.
Only the blood all over the ground told of the terror event that had once happened here.
Lu Jinzhao looked at Xu Ruolin’s figure with some scalp tingling; she knew things had gotten bad.
Illusions had already invaded the ancestral hall unknowingly.
And she simply couldn’t distinguish them!
The fresh touch of the blood still sticking to her hand, the smell in her nasal cavity from the blood spraying out over a large area, yet the already dead Xu Ruolin was standing alive in front of them.
Reason told Lu Jinzhao that the corpse was an illusion; the ghost probably couldn’t kill directly inside the ancestral hall.
But who could stay completely calm when facing this scene?
“How are you still alive?” Wei Ling asked.
Xu Ruolin’s expression was quite fragile; she looked like she was about to cry from fear, her complexion pale, her body trembling.
“Everything was fine when we came in, but suddenly someone rushed out like they went crazy. After a while, a few more ran out. I felt something was wrong. I wanted to call you, but you… acted like you couldn’t see me!”
“Shouting my name into the air, saying I was dead!”
When she said this, her tone was somewhat collapsing.
“I felt something was wrong with this place. I wanted to run, but then I heard what you said…”
“So what you said, is it true? What should we do?”
Her tone was desperate yet carried some expectation, as if expecting Lu Jinzhao to give her guidance.
But Lu Jinzhao just shook her head: “I don’t know either.”
She really didn’t know.
Being able to reason to this point was already everything.
What followed was nothing more than playing it by ear.
The ghost makes its move, they respond.
As long as they stayed inside the ancestral hall, there might still be room to maneuver.
However, Xu Ruolin, who had been hiding in the back during that time, seemed to have suffered strong stimulation; her demeanor was already somewhat off.
In the following time, she would neurotically suddenly turn her head to look at some place, as if something terrifying would appear there, or suddenly let out a cry of alarm. When Lu Jinzhao and Wei Ling turned to look, they could only see her terrified face.
“Calm down, Xu Ruolin!” Wei Ling couldn’t help but say.
But Xu Ruolin just shook her head: “There’s something, there’s something here…”
Her somewhat deranged appearance was extremely similar to that of the woman who ran out first; Lu Jinzhao couldn’t judge if she was seeing illusions or really scared to the brink of madness.
But soon, Xu Ruolin said something else.
“Everyone else is dead; it’s coming here.”
“It’s looking for us.”
As she spoke, she looked up desperately at Lu Jinzhao: “No, no, this place can’t stop it!”
“Think of a method quickly…”
“Think of a method quickly!”
As she spoke, she moved closer to Lu Jinzhao, her hands trying to grab Lu Jinzhao’s collar.
Lu Jinzhao took two small steps back and wasn’t grabbed. After Xu Ruolin fell to the ground, she trembled and curled herself up.
Lu Jinzhao couldn’t help but close her eyes briefly. She didn’t know what Xu Ruolin had gone through during that time to end up like this, but having someone in this state appear now was definitely not a good thing.
Wei Ling, however, wasn’t surprised by this. In her limited platform mission experiences, she had already seen no fewer than five passengers directly scared to mental breakdown.
Human endurance is limited; even she, who could be considered bold, had several times in platform missions been driven by fear to nearly want to end it all, no longer enduring this torment.
In the quiet inside the ancestral hall, only Xu Ruolin’s occasional neurotic sounds could be heard.
Those sounds had no meaning, expressing no content and providing no help to the current situation; instead, they only added to the mental pressure on the remaining two.
The atmosphere in the air had already become oppressively heavy to the extreme.
Wei Ling even felt that ordinary breathing required effort. At this time, she desperately hoped Lu Jinzhao could say something to break this suffocating silence.
But Lu Jinzhao said nothing.
So she sighed and sincerely exclaimed: “If only there was a supernatural item that could break illusions at a time like this.”
Her own supernatural item could only be used for self-preservation and wasn’t of much use in this situation.
But the next second, a trembling voice responded to her expectation.
“A supernatural item that breaks illusions?”
Xu Ruolin lifted her head from her arm bend and looked at Wei Ling.
“I have one!”
