See the Law of Deception – Chapter 58

Qing Wu

Chapter 58: Qing Wu

Lu Jinzhao had dreamed before.

Especially after becoming a passenger, she had almost constant nightmares.

But this dream felt exceptionally different to Lu Jinzhao.

She had an indescribable feeling, like intuition, like a warning, or like some personal experience, or perhaps precognition?

Unable to figure it out, only finding it strange, she simply picked up the parchment to question it.

Anyway, the strange things happening to her body always had something to do with the parchment.

Sure enough, the parchment gave a response.

Blood script appeared on the palm-sized paper.

[Ghost]

One word, yet it made Lu Jinzhao’s expression change slightly.

“I dreamed of a ghost?”

“A real ghost?” she asked repeatedly.

Wanting to know if it was a real ghost, or just something fabricated in her dream?

[Of course it’s real.]

[Ghost]

“Why would I dream of something like this?”

“Was it you?”

So it really was a ghost?

How could she possibly dream of a real ghost?

[You guess?]

Lu Jinzhao closed her eyes briefly, a nameless fire suddenly surging in her heart.

She thought, if the parchment had a humanoid form standing in front of her, no matter what it was, she would slap it.

“Was that ghost one I’ve seen before?”

She pressed.

[.Who knows?]

The parchment said this first, then changed its tone.

[Give me the box, and I’ll tell you the answer.]

“Heh.”

Lu Jinzhao sneered: “Then you go dream too.”

She put the parchment back in place, knowing she wouldn’t get anything more by asking.

After doing this, Lu Jinzhao realized that she was the only one in the dormitory now.

She checked the time; her roommates should all have gone to class.

She hadn’t slept too long, only less than four hours.

After leaving the platform, exhausted for several days, she had actually woken up after less than four hours of deep sleep.

Her body was still very fatigued, an indescribable weakness enveloping her, making even lifting a finger feel slightly tiring.

But she no longer felt sleepy.

Lu Jinzhao got out of bed, preparing to take a shower.

While showering, she suddenly realized that even if she wasn’t injured next mission, she should have the train repair her body.

Her soul had been tampered with by the parchment somehow, but her body was still mortal flesh; if this continued long-term, she might not die in missions but drop dead in reality.

After showering and blow-drying her hair, as Lu Jinzhao stood in front of the mirror combing her hair, looking at herself in the mirror, her hand suddenly paused.

She put down the mirror, brought her face close to the mirror surface, looked carefully, and finally confirmed one thing.

Her eyes weren’t quite right.

At first glance, her appearance hadn’t changed at all from before; even Lu Jinzhao herself took a while to find the source of the slight discomfort.

Her eyes were pure black.

Pitch black, like a color that would only appear in animations.

But her original pupils were just ordinary brown, definitely not this black.

Such a pure color gave her entire temperament a slight change.

She put down the comb, took the parchment from her pocket, pointed at her own eyes and asked: “Is this your doing too?”

[Eyes are the windows to the soul, aren’t they?]

The parchment replied thus.

Lu Jinzhao didn’t want to pay attention to its untimely joke; she only felt annoyed, the successive changes appearing on her body making her feel disgusted; she didn’t like this kind of change not initiated by herself.

She placed both hands on the counter, took a deep breath, and when she lifted her head again, the expression on her face had calmed.

She asked: “You only want one-third of my soul? No more transactions with me?”

Surprisingly, the parchment didn’t respond.

Lu Jinzhao’s brow arched slightly; had she discovered something?

“You can’t continue the transaction right now?”

She wasn’t expecting the parchment to answer, just muttering to herself: “No wonder you don’t directly exchange for more of my soul, like half.”

“So you can’t do it?”

“But why can’t you? Are you very weak?”

Not necessarily.

It could even influence the difficulty of train missions; this parchment was terrifying.

“What is binding you?”

But she could only think this far.

This parchment was very powerful, very terrifying, but for some reason, it was bound, able to only achieve some purpose by signing a contract with her and slowly devouring her soul.

As for this purpose, it was easy to guess; it must be related to “breaking free from the binding.”

Its original appearance couldn’t possibly have just been a parchment.

But why it was like this now, unclear.

There were too many mysteries, but Lu Jinzhao knew not to rush.

The more silent the parchment was, the more she knew her guess was probably correct.

Though it had “human” thinking, it still wasn’t smart enough, too easy to read.

After washing up, Lu Jinzhao went to the library.

She no longer went to class.

Compared to classroom knowledge, she needed more knowledge related to “survival.”

The forum had compilations by seniors, recommending newcomers learn and understand more, including a large amount of folk customs and culture, survival guides, and various terror novels and movies.

Besides that, she had also searched the forum for terms related to [Lin Zhao], but unfortunately, there were no gains.

And in the forum, there were also a few people sharing their own mission experiences; these posts were often very popular, but few passengers were willing to share for free.

The one Lu Jinzhao was currently reading was a mission experience shared by the ID named [Qing Wu].

This person was very famous in the forum; everyone often talked about her, and from the words, Lu Jinzhao learned that this person was one of the existing [First-Class] in Yuncheng.

Also the most renowned and most recognized [First-Class].

Because Qing Wu seemed to have started unconditionally sharing her mission experiences from some point, in the posts she wouldn’t describe useless things in detail, nor expose her teammates’ privacy, just using simple words to describe the mission requirements, the dangers encountered, and the way to survive the mission.

Though low-level instances wouldn’t repeat, experience was often universal.

Her posts had helped many people; from others’ comments, Lu Jinzhao could also see that this ID Qing Wu was, in the platform, a trustworthy, reliable powerhouse.

And through Qing Wu’s posts, she had outlined a rough impression of this person: calm, friendly, decisive, intelligent, seemingly with no weaknesses.

“Does a person like this really exist?”

Especially in a place like the train.

Lu Jinzhao felt curious about this and took note of the ID Qing Wu.

Staying in the library until it was completely dark, Lu Jinzhao borrowed a few books on folk customs and prepared to leave, but at that moment, her mobile phone suddenly rang.

The caller ID showed the call was from Qing City in the capital.
