Chapter 10: Their Affair Is Exposed
The butler felt pity and advised her, “Liancheng, endure a few days. Don’t go against the Eldest Young Master. After Miss Wenfei’s marriage, once things settle down, he won’t target you anymore.”
Liancheng appreciated his kindness, “Uncle Qian, I understand. Please arrange for someone to drive.”
She couldn’t endure it for a single day. If she didn’t save herself, these four days would be equivalent to waiting for death.
……………………
Liancheng was anxiously waiting for Bai Ying at a tea restaurant.
Bai Ying arrived a full hour late, her face looking extremely grim. As soon as she sat down, she chugged a cup of tea. “You’re really not carrying Shen Lichuan’s child?”
“What’s wrong?” Liancheng sensed something was off. “Did they discover the tampering with the video?”
“Not yet.” Bai Ying was angry. “Liang Chaosu spoke to my father, telling me to watch my words and actions. He doesn’t care about who I associate with, but causing trouble for him by colluding with someone is unacceptable.”
Liancheng clenched the handle of the teacup. “The child is not Shen Lichuan’s.”
She couldn’t say anything else.
It was just suspicion, without solid evidence, and Liang Chaosu could still pressure the Bai Family.
If Bai Ying were to help her tamper with the medical examination again, a slight mistake could arouse Liang Chaosu’s suspicion and completely harm Bai Ying.
“If it’s not Shen Lichuan, then who is it?” Bai Ying asked suspiciously. “Liang Chaosu, for his sister, monitors you daily. He questions you if you’re a few minutes late coming home. You’re under his watch, who could you possibly develop a relationship with?”
Liancheng’s mind was in turmoil. She struggled to maintain a calm facade, truly unable to muster the thoughts to answer.
The more she was silent, the greater Bai Ying’s suspicion grew. Suddenly, a flash of inspiration struck her, and she realized, “Liang Chaosu?”
Boom.
Liancheng’s face drained of color.
She had spilled tea all over the floor.
“It really is him!” Bai Ying immediately confirmed, absolutely furious. “How dare he? How could he? Damn that beast—”
Her voice became uncontrollable, and the door to the private room next door suddenly banged open.
Liancheng hurriedly grabbed Bai Ying, her hands trembling as she covered her mouth. “Don’t make a sound. If my relationship with him is exposed, no one in the Liang family will let me go.”
Bai Ying regained a little composure, pulled Liancheng’s hand away, and clutched it tightly. “When did it start? Does anyone else know?”
Liancheng’s relationship with Liang Chaosu was too taboo to be accepted by worldly affairs.
She had lived in fear for four years, and after becoming pregnant, she couldn’t sleep or eat.
Countless fears gathered like a flood. Her reason barely held them back, but Bai Ying’s immediate concern, free of prejudice or discrimination, shattered it instantly, causing her tears to overflow like a deluge.
“Shen Lichuan and Liang Wenfei got drunk and slept together.” Liancheng hugged her. “I didn’t accept it at the time and was looking for evidence with Shen Lichuan, which angered him.”
Bai Ying recalled, “No wonder you suddenly gave up back then.”
As she finished speaking, her expression turned so gloomy it seemed to drip water. “Does anyone else know?”
Liancheng was numb with despair. “No one else. Liang Chaosu is mainly doing this for Liang Wenfei. Besides, the relationship is truly taboo, so he has always been cautious and wouldn’t let others know.”
“You’re pregnant—” Bai Ying patted her back. “Did he suspect anything?”
“Probably not.” Liancheng wasn’t sure either. “The Liang family all know about my illness. If Liang Wenfei hadn’t caused trouble this time, no one would think I was pregnant.”
“You’re not pregnant.” Bai Ying stared at her very seriously. “It’s all Liang Wenfei’s suspicion and paranoia, slandering and tormenting you.”
Liancheng knew what she meant and refused. “Liang Chaosu is wary of you. He’s alert and vindictive. Don’t—.”
“Don’t scare yourself.” Bai Ying lectured her. “He’s human, not a god. My family’s hospital, my family’s doctors—he can’t control everything. He didn’t discover the video incident, did he?”
“But the medical examination isn’t just your family’s doctor.” Liancheng shook her head. “Liang Chaosu invited a gynecologist from the capital. My mother doesn’t believe me and also invited the Head of Gynecology from City First Hospital to examine me personally.”
“How could that be? Just because of Liang Wenfei’s suspicion?” Bai Ying found it unbelievable. “Didn’t Auntie always cherish you?”
“It’s been four years—” Liancheng couldn’t finish. No matter how deep her feelings for Father Liang and Mother Liang were, they couldn’t withstand her biological daughter’s constant provocations, as well as Liang Chaosu’s intentional isolation.
Bai Ying found it tricky. “You’ve always been smart, don’t tell me you can’t find a way to hide this until the examination is over.”
Liancheng closed her eyes, refusing silently.
Bai Ying was furious. “If you don’t let me continue to intervene, and the examination exposes everything, Liang Chaosu won’t let me off either, since I helped you before. This is self-preservation for me.”
Liancheng hesitated, and Bai Ying glared at her.
Their eyes met, and Liancheng became decisive.
She took a card from her bag. “I had laparoscopic surgery at City First Hospital before, so I know the Head of Gynecology’s situation. Her younger son was severely injured by firecrackers and is in great need of money. I think we can try to bribe her.”
Bai Ying asked, “What about the gynecologist from the capital?”
Liancheng bit her lower lip. “I’m still thinking about it.”
“Do you know who it is? I have a teacher in the capital city, so there might be a way to arrange things in advance.”
Liancheng was pleasantly surprised. “I’ll go back and check immediately.”
Not long after she and Bai Ying left, a young man in his early twenties, with slicked-back hair and a greasy face, clutched his stomach and kicked open the door to the adjacent private room. “Shen Lichuan, what kind of place did you find? One plate of dim sum, and my intestines are about to come out.”
Shen Lichuan looked up, his normally gentle and warm face showing the most gloomy and somber expression for the first time.
It was as if a raging sea, fiercely suppressed, but the more it was suppressed, the more frantic it became.
The young man was startled. “What’s wrong? Is Liang Wenfei rushing you back for the engagement again?”
“Engagement?” Shen Lichuan’s voice was chilling.
He sounded angry and mocking.
…………………………
Liancheng waited in her room until late at night. Stumbling footsteps echoed in the corridor.
They paused as they passed her door.
Liancheng involuntarily held her breath, and the footsteps moved away.
Liancheng took a deep breath, clutched the doorknob, and turned it.
“Liang Chaosu—” her voice trembled almost imperceptibly, “Could you—”
Liang Chaosu was enveloped in a strong scent of alcohol, his eyes also hazy. “Is something wrong?”
Liancheng turned sideways, signaling him to enter the room. “There’s something.”
She paused for a few breaths, adding, “It will only take you a few minutes.”
“Speak,” Liang Chaosu said, sitting on the sofa at the foot of the bed and rubbing his temples hard. “What is it?”
“To help with the alcohol,” Liancheng handed him a cup of water. “Did you drink a lot?”
The man took it and drank it in one gulp. When he put the cup down, his expression had relaxed considerably. “Not much. They can’t get me drunk.”
Liancheng dryly remarked, “You have a good tolerance for alcohol, you can drink a thousand cups without getting drunk.”
A faint smile flickered in his eyes, and he loosened his collar. “Why so attentive today? Do you need a favor from me?”
Liancheng’s gaze swept over the water cup. There was no hangover remedy in it, just plain water. “For this medical examination, I am not pregnant. After Liang Wenfei gets married, will I be cleared of suspicion?”
Liang Chaosu leaned back against the sofa back and reached out his hand to her. “You want to ask if our relationship will end?”
Liancheng looked at him. “Can it?”
Liang Chaosu suddenly pulled her, and with a tug, Liancheng fell into his arms. Her forehead hit his hard chest, making her head buzz.
