Chapter 126: Regarding How To Completely Leave Liang Chaosu
“Liancheng doesn’t want to go, so she’s appointed me to represent her.”
Ninety-nine percent of the mistrust in her eyes was undeniable, with only a sliver of probing that she couldn’t help.
Liang Chaosu had a smile on his lips, but his eyes were devoid of warmth, only urging her to wash up, “As long as you can get up tomorrow.”
……………………
Going out to sea for whale watching in Iceland, it’s not every time you’re certain to see a whale; weather, time, and location all affect the probability of whales appearing.
Annually, the best whale watching season is from April to October. Nowadays, you can still see them in December, but the types of whales that appear will be different.
Liancheng woke up early in the morning; Liang Chaosu was not in the room.
After washing up, she went downstairs. The courtyard was bustling with activity as the mercenaries were loading things into the cars. Liang Chaosu, wearing a down jacket over his windbreaker, was by the doorway bending over to put on his shoes.
Outside the door, the night was deep and cold; the foyer lighting was a stark white. He stood between darkness and light, and Liancheng could only clearly see the half of him illuminated by the light.
The stubble on his jaw looked freshly shaved, but not well done, with a faint scratch on his left cheek. The dark circles under his eyes were heavy, as if he hadn’t slept all night, exuding an indescribable weariness and disheveledness that, mixed together on him, created a uniquely mature yet indifferent aura.
Liancheng quickly went downstairs and stood beside him, “We’re leaving now? We’re not eating breakfast?”
Liang Chaosu straightened up. His posture was tall and upright, and the down jacket he wore underneath was puffy, accentuating the broad and imposing silhouette of his windbreaker. The shadow cast by him was overwhelming and full of deterrence.
“I’ll eat on the way.”
Liancheng was taken aback, “So urgent?”
“This isn’t the best month for whale watching. If you want the highest chance of seeing whales, we have to go to the best whale watching spot in the north, Húsavík.” Liang Chaosu turned and opened the foyer cabinet, taking out Liancheng’s complete set of going-out attire. “We’ll depart at seven-thirty, arrive at one in the afternoon, go out to sea for two hours, and be back before ten in the evening.”
Liancheng cooperated, extending her arm and leg, observing his expression closely.
Yesterday’s prenatal check-up showed the baby was smaller than expected. The female doctor had specifically advised her to rest, yet Liang Chaosu was not only taking her out today, but his itinerary was also so rushed and packed.
All these changes had occurred after that phone call from Father Liang.
But she had only heard a few brief words from Liang Chaosu; what Father Liang had said was impossible to infer.
Liancheng was anxious. With changes imminent and opportunities presenting themselves, she felt completely unable to grasp or hold onto them, which was truly tormenting.
……………………
Domestically, it was three in the morning.
Secretary Zhou hurriedly pushed open the door to the Chairman’s office, walked past an entire wall of rosewood bookshelves, and through a small door at the end of the bookshelf, which was imperceptible as a seam, was the director’s lounge, a separate living room, bedroom, and bathroom.
The decoration was Mother Liang’s work, and the furnishings were all according to her wishes, but since its establishment, Father Liang had used it only a handful of times, even rarely for his midday nap. Its primary function was just the restroom.
Secretary Zhou walked straight ahead, raising his hand to gently knock on the door, “Director Liang, we’ve received a reply from Iceland.”
He paused for half a minute, with no response from inside. Just as he was about to knock again, Father Liang opened the door.
He was wearing a cream-colored Tang suit pajama set, his eyes still half-closed with sleep, his face darkened, and his imposing aura weighed heavily. “Speak.”
Father Liang was advanced in age, found it hard to fall asleep, and woke early. Three in the morning was his only period of deep sleep. Secretary Zhou dared not waste any words, “At seven-thirty Iceland time, the Eldest Young Master took Miss Lian Cheng out for whale watching in Húsavík city in the north. The whale watching dock was chaotic, and the terrain complex. If we make a move, we have at least an eighty percent chance.”
Father Liang walked past him and went to the restroom to splash cold water on his face.
Secretary Zhou handed him a towel, “But it’s not impossible that this is also the Eldest Young Master’s ploy to lure the snake out of its hole. Húsavík is Iceland’s most famous viewpoint and a tourist town. Its public safety isn’t comparable to domestic standards, but the gap isn’t that large either. If the Eldest Young Master had prepared in advance and used the police, our people might suffer some losses.”
Secretary Zhou had been fully responsible for the Iceland affairs these past few days. The group of people hired by the Eldest Young Master had all had their identities and backgrounds thoroughly whitewashed from the moment they entered the country. With police involvement, any excuse would allow them to escape.
And he had made a mistake from the beginning by finding local Icelandic forces who were regulars at the local police station. In this situation, if the two groups clashed, the police would undoubtedly be biased and detain the local gang members with prior offenses.
Father Liang walked out of the restroom, “What about the new group you found?”
Secretary Zhou followed behind him. If the Eldest Young Master could find people with clean records, so could they. “We are in contact. They will be on the ground in Iceland within three days.”
Father Liang signaled Secretary Zhou to cut a cigar. “Then this time, we’ll just go through the motions. Don’t actually get into a conflict. Chaosu isn’t as simple as you think. He knows that if he stops this group, I can send another. If he doesn’t come back to settle the score with me, he’ll never have peace.”
Secretary Zhou’s expression showed surprise. After cutting the cigar, he asked, “Then what is the purpose of the Eldest Young Master’s arduous journey and effort?”
Father Liang took the cigar and lit it. The scarlet spark flickered, and his aged eyes, like the flame, seemed to brighten and dim. “Yes, what does he want to do?”
……………………
This time, Liang Chaosu was driving, and Liancheng sat in the co-pilot seat, with the seat reclined to a semi-lying position.
The car cabin was sealed, and her breath was filled with Liang Chaosu’s scent – deep, steady, and solid. It lacked the fragrance of cedarwood or ebony, but this faint yet tangible scent was indescribable, yet it suited him perfectly, uniquely, and intrusively ingrained in her heart.
Liancheng held her breath, thinking she would suffocate.
If she opened the window, the sub-zero Icelandic wind would freeze her to death.
She could only turn her head to look out the window. In the rearview mirror, the mercenaries’ cars were lined up, one beam of headlights after another, winding through the dark wind and snow, not a single one falling behind. This made her heart ache even more.
She decided to close her eyes.
Yesterday, after Father Liang’s phone call, Liang Chaosu had asked him what was behind his show of force. He had also asked if more manpower had been dispatched to Iceland.
She had already known this information, and Liang Chaosu knew it too, which was why he wasn’t going to the hospital and wasn’t going out, staying put in the villa.
Abroad, if a stranger breaks into a private residence with criminal intent, self-defense, even shooting, is legal and compliant.
His unusual departure now could only mean that he had confirmed that staying in the villa was no longer effective.
Father Liang was cunning and experienced; with his wealth and status, he would never launch a direct assault on the villa, turning himself into someone with a rose gold bracelet, and an international criminal at that.
If the problem wasn’t with the villa, then was it Liang Chaosu?
It was as if an electric current struck her mind. In a flash, Liancheng suddenly understood. If she were Father Liang, with Liang Chaosu protecting her, he couldn’t make a move. What would be the simplest solution?
It would be to transfer Liang Chaosu away, forcing him back home.
Liancheng tried her best to maintain her posture, so as not to reveal her excitement and be noticed by Liang Chaosu.
Then, what could she do?
If she fell into Father Liang’s hands, the child would certainly not be safe, and her own fate would be uncertain.
Even if she endured hardships and dangers, and was fortunate enough to rescue Old Ghost and be saved.
What would be the difference from her previous two escape attempts? Her pregnancy was already exposed; Liang Chaosu wouldn’t give up, and Father Liang wouldn’t either.
She could run to the ends of the earth and still find no peace.
Unless—
A sudden flash of inspiration, dangerous yet undeniably magnificent, appeared in Liancheng’s heart.
Once realized, she would be completely separated from Liang Chaosu, no longer having to fear his relentless pursuit, nor the Liang family’s continued pressure.
