Chapter 34: Make Her Move Out
Liang Chaosu remained in place, blocking the door, his peripheral vision scanning Lian Cheng, his expression unwavering, “I’ll make her move out.”
Mother Liang’s face was a mixture of shock and anger, she glanced at Lian Cheng, then back at him.
His suit was buttoned tightly, his tie neatly tied, not a trace of lustful hormones surging, his expressionless face conveying a sense of calm and composure.
Mother Liang believed she knew him well; in his eyes, there was no hidden emotion of heartache, pity, or tension. Instead, there was only a deep, churning annoyance.
Mother Liang’s emotions settled slightly, “Why?”
Liang Chaosu’s tone was extremely cold, “She knows her place and shouldn’t be living in the Liang family.”
Such ruthlessness, indifference.
He was determined to drive her away.
Mother Liang watched him for a long time, her emotions calming a little more.
Still, she had a question, “Then why did you open the door so late?”
Liang Chaosu glanced at the startled Lian Cheng, his honesty brutally direct, “She didn’t let me open it.”
Mother Liang blinked, stepping past Liang Chaosu to look at Lian Cheng.
She was dazed, standing there stiffly, her eyes red and damp, tear streaks of helplessness at the corners of her eyes.
Mechanically meeting her gaze, she was still engulfed in a hazy despair, unable to recover.
Mother Liang realized, she didn’t want to move out and was begging Chaosu.
Chaosu must have been annoyed by her begging, which was why he looked so angry.
Mother Liang told Liang Chaosu to leave first, “I need to talk to her. Go wait for me in the small flower hall; I also have something to tell you.”
Liang Chaosu straightened up and strode away. After passing Mother Liang, he suddenly turned back to glance at Lian Cheng.
That glance held no warmth, like a bottomless, dark, dead sea.
Lian Cheng shivered again and lowered her head to avoid his gaze.
Mother Liang closed the door and pulled Lian Cheng to sit on the sofa, “Mom is asking you, you don’t want to move out, do you?”
Lian Cheng nodded slowly; of course, she couldn’t move out.
That look from Liang Chaosu before he left was his usual way of punishing her severely when he found her trying to escape; his sudden decision to make her leave was by no means an act of great mercy.
“Alright then, I’ll tell Chaosu to let you stay. Mom can’t bear to see you go after raising you for twenty-two years, not to mention the resources invested, but just the feelings involved. Feifei’s wedding date is set, and Mom has also picked out a man from a distinguished family for you, young, handsome, and very considerate.”
Lian Cheng remained silent.
Mother Liang didn’t need her to speak; she had no other choice, “Mom has already arranged the meeting time and place for you, tomorrow at five in the afternoon, at Shengyuan. Remember to arrive in advance.”
………………
After Mother Liang finished her notifications, she went downstairs to the flower hall.
Liang Chaosu had changed into casual clothes, still in a calm, dark color scheme, with broad shoulders and long legs, looking heroic and upright.
He sat on a single-person sofa, his arms resting on the armrests, looking up at the ceiling in silent stillness.
His specific expression was unreadable, only a sense of disheveled dejection.
Mother Liang’s heart softened, feeling both worried and pained, “Is the Gu family difficult to deal with? Mom knows you’re ambitious, but you must also take care of your health.”
Liang Chaosu sat up straight, “Thank you, Mother, for your concern. I have it under control.”
Mother Liang didn’t know what else to say. Her proud son, precocious and strong-willed, had developed such astuteness when other second-generation heirs were in their rebellious teens.
By adulthood, he had become unfathomable, his wisdom and calmness reaching extreme levels.
The mother-son bond remained, but intimacy was lacking.
“Is she moving?”
Mother Liang moved her chair closer to him and sat down, “Mom can’t bear to let her go, so let her stay at home.”
“Did she beg you?”
“Mm.”
Liang Chaosu paused; his expression remained placid, but a ripple stirred in his eyes.
Mother Liang didn’t want the family’s intimate time to be wasted discussing Lian Cheng, “Feifei told me that you’ve been ordering people to impede the Hu family’s business these past few days and even sent Lichuan abroad in one fell swoop?”
“Mm,” Liang Chaosu shifted his body subtly, “Shen Lichuan is twenty-three. At his age, I could already open up markets independently. If he’s going to marry Feifei, he can’t be a failure.”
Mother Liang smiled helplessly and nudged him, “You think everyone can compare to you.”
Father Shen’s praise that his ambition was stronger than everyone else’s combined was no exaggeration.
Mother Liang even felt that if the Liang family was on the verge of collapse, it would explain his desperate drive.
Liang Chaosu sat back casually, his gaze drifting into the distance, as if casually glancing towards the third floor.
Among the brightly lit windows, only the two on the far side were dark, emitting an icy chill.
She was afraid of the dark, yet she wouldn’t turn on the lights.
“His abilities can’t compare, but the girl is still infatuated with him.”
“You can’t bear to see Feifei get married?” Mother Liang heard the strong jealousy in his voice and couldn’t help but tease, “Then, as her brother, won’t you find your brother-in-law even more displeasing in the future?”
“If he truly gets married, I will find him pleasing.”
Mother Liang chuckled, taking it as a brother’s righteous indignation, accepting the inevitable fact of his sister’s marriage with resignation.
“And what about the Hu family?” Mother Liang asked, “Feifei has a good relationship with Hu Tiande, and if the Hu family encounters trouble, she’ll worry.”
“Hu Tiande is foul-mouthed and lacks discretion,” Liang Chaosu’s aggression ran deep, “Let the Hu family teach him a good lesson.”
Mother Liang froze entirely.
Hu Tiande’s foul-mouthed target was Lian Cheng; was Chaosu taking revenge for Lian Cheng?
She immediately recalled Lichuan’s detailed recount of what happened in the private room that day before he left.
With the wedding imminent, Feifei’s reputation was important, and it was imperative to avoid conflict and storms, as it would tarnish the wedding.
Mother Liang, having been deeply involved in wealthy families for many years, naturally understood the principle that being innocent in public opinion was better than having no public opinion at all.
She assumed Chaosu was angered by Hu Tiande’s repeated provocations, which had affected Feifei.
However, even with Lichuan’s earnest instructions, a trace of unease remained in Mother Liang’s heart.
When his wedding was mentioned again, she casually brought up Lian Cheng’s blind date, but Liang Chaosu only gave perfunctory responses before leaving directly.
………………
The next day, Lian Cheng deliberately went downstairs at six o’clock to avoid breakfast time and go straight to work.
It was still dark at this hour, the darkest moment before dawn.
In the garage, four or five drivers were eating breakfast or washing cars.
Lian Cheng hugged the wall and walked to the very back; Old Han was taciturn and always kept to himself, so his car was parked in a secluded spot.
However, to her surprise, when she reached the car, it was washed clean, but the person was nowhere to be found.
A driver behind her had already seen her and, after expressing surprise, informed her, “Miss Lian Cheng, Old Han has taken leave for the past few days.”
Lian Cheng frowned; for the past few days, she had been talking to herself all the way when getting into the car.
Finally, last night, she had managed to pry open the tough exterior of Old Han.
She knew that he had an adult adopted daughter who had been trafficked, and Old Han worked tirelessly outside to support his wife in searching for her across the country.
He would not easily take leave; his full attendance was tied to his year-end bonus, and tens of thousands of yuan were more important to him than his own life.
“Is he sick? Or is there something wrong at home?”
The driver’s expression became unnatural, “I don’t know. Old Han just came over, and Brother Zhang approved a few days of leave for him…”
Lian Cheng fell silent.
After a long silence, under the driver’s sympathetic and pitying gaze, Lian Cheng left the garage and walked out into the darkness.
The Liang family residence was located halfway up the southern hills, deliberately set back from the main road for privacy.
The nearest bus stop was a mile away in a straight line, but the winding mountain road made it at least four or five miles to descend.
Lian Cheng had walked this road countless times over the past four years.
If she angered Liang Wenfei, she would leave.
If she angered Liang Chaosu, she would leave.
If Mother Liang was angry, she would leave, and if the drivers suddenly took “vacation” for no apparent reason, she would leave even more so.
