Chapter 97: Liang Chaosu Asks Where She Is
Father Liang looked at Secretary Zhou, astonished.
Secretary Zhou nodded affirmatively.
Shen Lichuan, seated one seat away from Father Shen, couldn’t hear clearly and lowered his eyelids in silence.
At the table, Mother Liang’s face was extremely stiff, “Twenty-nine years old, thirty by traditional reckoning, did I say something wrong?”
“Mother is naturally not wrong.” Liang Chaosu’s smile lines appeared on his skin, but there was no smile, “But ‘traditional’ is just ‘traditional.’ You only have one son who is twenty-nine years old. Father, do you acknowledge the one who is thirty?”
Underneath his insolence, a chilling dissatisfaction could not be hidden.
The young ladies on either side of him felt like they were sitting on pins and needles, awkward and uneasy.
When she had invited them before, Mother Liang had made it clear that Liang Chaosu was unaware, but she hadn’t expected such a strong reaction.
Father Liang’s expression darkened, and he tapped his fingers on the table, “Chaosu, you’ve gone too far. Towards elders, some jokes are intimate, and some are insults. Apologize to your mother.”
Liang Chaosu stood up and raised his glass to Mother Liang, “My apologies.”
His tone was aloof, his actions perfunctory. He drank it all in one gulp, as if pouring a vat of vinegar into Mother Liang’s heart, so sour it stung, so sour it twisted her heart and lungs into knots.
Ever since she suspected Liancheng had something going on with him, a crack had formed in the calm yet deep feelings between the mothers.
It grew larger and wider, and in just two months, it became uncontrollable, violently pulling apart until it became an unbridgeable chasm.
Her nose also felt sore, “Chaosu, your blind date—”
Liang Chaosu heavily placed his glass on the table, the dull thud cutting off Mother Liang’s words.
“Apologies, Mother, I really dislike the word ‘blind date’ recently.” He scanned the entire room, his expression sinister, his aura also dangerous, “I won’t go on blind dates; I will only expand. Whoever is interested in me, I will be interested in them.”
The young ladies were almost suffocated.
Liang Chaosu was unique in Nan Province, the primary choice for marriage alliances. The older generation saw his powerful capabilities as unmatched, while the young ladies looked at another aspect.
His appearance and temperament were precious and taboo, possessing a special sexual tension.
At last year’s Liang Family annual meeting, several young ladies had attended with their fathers. Liang Chaosu, dressed in a dark space-gray suit, walked to the left of Father Liang, a step behind, yet he was more imposing than Father Liang, and with his youth, a hidden sharpness lay in his eyes.
After going on stage, he stood there, the lighting, red and blue alternating, flowing across his face. The host introduced the Liang Family’s annual development item by item, mentioning him in three out of every three sentences. The applause from the audience was thunderous and unending.
And under the gaze of everyone, in the dazzling lights, he smiled, his expression unchanged, like a god statue looking down from above, very close, waiting for someone to approach him and strip away his abstinence and self-control.
To make him fall, his eyes on you, and his heart on you.
But often, before one could strip him bare, he was incredibly difficult to approach, and especially if he resisted, he would treat them as enemies.
Just like now.
Mother Liang’s expression turned pale inch by inch, then flushed with anger inch by inch, “You are outrageous—”
Liang Chaosu looked at Father Liang, “Father, if you raise a wolf, don’t expect it to be meek and subservient. My marriage will not involve marriage alliances, blind dates, or arrangements. You and Mother fell in love mutually; I will do the same.”
Shen Lichuan suddenly looked up at him. Their eyes met. Across a large round table, they seemed to look into each other’s eyes, seeing the figure of the same person.
Two seconds later, Shen Lichuan lowered his eyes.
Liang Chaosu pulled out a chair and left the banquet hall with big steps.
After he left, the corner of Shen Lichuan’s mouth curved into a smile, feeling implicitly relaxed and at ease.
………………
Liancheng had dinner in the evening, and Old Ghost called her to the beach to watch the sunset.
The winter sea breeze was cold and biting. Liancheng went back inside to get an extra layer of clothing. As soon as she opened her suitcase, she received a message from Liang Chaosu.
“Where are you?”
Liancheng’s heart sank. She couldn’t accurately give her location, whether it was the company or Bai Ying’s home. If Liang Chaosu were to go find her now, he would expose her within half an hour.
But she couldn’t not reply, or be too obviously evasive, as Liang Chaosu would perceive it.
