Chapter 98: Unless You Kill Her
She calmed herself, “I’m preparing a gift outside.”
This is too vague; it still seems like a perfunctory excuse. Only by detailing the specifics, a thorough empty fort strategy, can one fool people.
Liancheng said seriously, “Within two hundred thousand, what do you like? I’ve given you ties and shirts before. A wristwatch at this price doesn’t suit you. A wallet? You probably don’t need one with mobile payments now.”
Liang Chaosu paused visibly, looking at his phone, his stiff posture showing a hint of being caught off guard.
Gu Xingyuan raised his hand to stop the secretary from reporting, observed for a few more moments, and couldn’t help but ask, “What major event happened? The Shen family is no longer helping? Or the bank funds aren’t approved?”
Liang Chaosu didn’t answer him, got up, walked out of the conference room, and sent a video call to Liancheng.
Liancheng instantly rejected it.
Liang Chaosu sent a message, “Why aren’t you answering? Let me see you.”
Liancheng’s palms sweated. With only text and no voice, she couldn’t tell if Liang Chaosu had grown suspicious, and the possibility was high.
Because Liang Chaosu disliked video calls.
Before, when Liancheng had something to discuss, he always rejected video calls and only accepted her requests in person.
His assistant, Xiao Da, said that video calls were too informal. Liancheng understood; he felt she wasn’t being respectful enough in her request.
“I’m waiting for your answer. What do you like?”
Her back straightened, and she stared intently at the screen without blinking.
“A ring.”
Liancheng breathed a sigh of relief. The topic being redirected meant his suspicion wasn’t high.
She could still save herself.
“Understood, I’ll consider it.”
After sending the message, she waited for five minutes, but Liang Chaosu didn’t reply.
Liancheng’s shoulders relaxed.
Good.
She had successfully delayed the time again.
……………………
Meanwhile.
Liang Chaosu received a call from Father Liang, “Come back, I need to discuss something with you.”
He refused, “Tomorrow. I have something to do tonight.”
Father Liang said, “Gu Xingyuan’s uncle is in Nan Province. Consider the urgency yourself.”
The call ended.
Secretary Zhou looked worriedly, “Although Eldest Young Master is professional and personal matters are separate, today is his birthday. Will he come back?”
“Will he—” Father Liang said calmly, “You’ll know soon enough.”
Secretary Zhou’s tablet chimed with a notification. He frowned, scrolled through it a few times, and exclaimed in surprise, “Director Liang, Miss Lian Cheng has set sail. She’s actually going to leave.”
Father Liang reached out for the tablet. Secretary Zhou bypassed the desk and bent over to show him the location map, “Should we stop her?”
“No.” Father Liang pushed the tablet away. “Help her conceal the customs information for the fishing boat setting sail.”
Secretary Zhou was even more surprised, “You’re going to let her go?”
Father Liang smiled meaningfully, “Why not?”
A secret affair, hidden and stimulating. When the man takes the initiative, and the woman is forced, the critical point is never with the passive party. His thunderous action to deal with Liancheng would only make Chaosu’s feelings stronger and deeper.
After all, it’s in a man’s nature to want to be a savior, especially for the woman he loves.
Therefore, from the moment he harbored suspicion, he never intended to follow Mother Liang’s dominant approach of first appeasing, then sending away, and finally destroying.
That kind of approach is only effective on spineless individuals who rely on and are controlled by their clan. Chaosu requires a gentler approach.
Secretary Zhou had been with Father Liang for twenty years; he could understand most of Father Liang’s thoughts and intentions.
“Then all our previous arrangements targeting Miss Lian Cheng will be in vain.”
“If they’re in vain, so be it. Zhou Dazhi, I’ll tell you again. If she were to stay in the Liang family forever, like Gu Xingyuan’s sycophantic woman, she would only passively endure and follow arrangements. Then her fate would be no different from that woman’s.”
Father Liang’s voice was cold and chilling. “I won’t let him go, and Nianci won’t either. But she is resilient; she saved herself through her own efforts. This situation is different.”
“For stubborn individuals who refuse to yield, you can’t push them to the absolute limit. Unless you kill her and dirty your hands, you’ll just create an enemy, an enemy who knows your closely guarded secrets.”
Secretary Zhou understood.
A servant’s voice came from downstairs, “You’re back.”
“Mm.” Liang Chaosu’s voice was indifferent. “No need to prepare anything, I have to leave again soon.”
Father Liang gestured to Secretary Zhou, “Notify Gu family’s people. They must arrive within half an hour, stir up trouble, and keep him here tonight.”
