Chapter 61: Show Of Force
The tailgate of the truck’s cargo compartment was opened, and the scouts got off one after another, lining up.
Earth Wolf casually counted the numbers and said, “Once you’re all here, go over there and board the vehicles.”
Then he said into his earpiece, “Wild Wolf, Earth Wolf calling.
The rookies are all here. Get ready to receive the rookies on your end. Over.”
“Wild Wolf received. Earth Wolf, keep an eye on things over there. There are a few troublemakers among the rookies coming for this training camp.”
Gao Zhong Dui was lying on the hood of the Warrior Vehicle, comfortably basking in the sun, reminding Earth Wolf to be careful.
As the chief instructor for this training camp, Gao Zhong Dui had thoroughly reviewed the information on the participants. He found there were quite a few good prospects this time.
Their old friend Chang Ning was one of the more standout ones.
But thinking back, after he had deliberately deployed several elites over there, Gao Zhong Dui’s suspended heart settled a lot.
“Troublemakers? Once they come to our Wolf Fang, even if they’re troublemakers, I can make them behave obediently.”
Earth Wolf had a disdainful look on his face. The soldiers who came to participate in Wolf Fang’s selection were all the top talents from various reconnaissance companies, and they had plenty of bad habits.
No one at Wolf Fang would indulge them. If they dared to cause trouble, there were plenty of ways to make them completely compliant.
‘I heard Chang Ning from Night Tiger Reconnaissance Company is here too. This time, I’ll let him experience Wolf Fang’s way of welcoming guests.’
Earth Wolf revealed a knowing smile.
“Hurry up. With your dawdling like this, you still have the nerve to call yourselves the top talents of your companies? Aren’t you ashamed? I’m embarrassed for your companies!”
Earth Wolf was stimulating the scouts’ sensitive nerves. From the moment this group of scouts saw them, the selection training had already begun.
There were many new recruits in the group being trained. How could they tolerate this indignity? Several of them couldn’t hold back and were about to rush up to deal with Earth Wolf.
“Don’t fall for their trick. That guy is deliberately provoking you.
If you really go up there, never mind whether you can take him or not, you’ll be disqualified from the training camp.”
An old bird who had attended a training camp before kindly stopped those impulsive soldiers.
“They’re humiliating us like this, and we’re just going to take it?”
A hothead said with resentment in his words.
“Humiliation? This is nothing.”
The old bird smacked his lips and gently shook his head with a calm expression. He thought these new recruits were still new recruits, lacking experience.
“I’m here for Wolf Fang’s selection training camp, not to be humiliated!
You can tolerate it if you want, but I won’t indulge them. I’m withdrawing from this selection training camp!
Wolf Fang is nothing special!”
After saying that, the hothead walked in the opposite direction from Chang Ning and the others.
Earth Wolf just watched quietly without saying a word.
After seeing that soldier make his choice, he said to the comrade beside him, “Note it down. That soldier is disqualified from future selections.”
You can withdraw, and you can vent, but you can’t look down on Wolf Fang!
After handling the matter of that soldier withdrawing from the selection, Earth Wolf began urging the others to change vehicles.
Chang Ning saw all of this. It had no influence on him; he even felt that Wolf Fang’s way of humiliating people was too mild.
Others might not know, but could Chang Ning, who came from twenty years in the future, not know the brutality of special forces selection training?
A large number of special forces training videos had been exposed online, and those were probably just the tip of the iceberg.
The answers had all let Chang Ning know, so what Earth Wolf and the others were doing was useless against him.
Xiao Zhuang and Xi Wa looked at the arrogant special forces soldiers in front of them, feeling indignant inside.
Chang Ning looked at everyone: “Let’s go. Our ordeal has just begun.”
On their turf, if you don’t want to get messed with, better behave. A strong dragon doesn’t suppress a local snake, let alone them not even being strong dragons.
Under the guidance of the special forces soldiers receiving them, the scouts arrived at several trucks nearby.
The trucks were covered with thick tarps. When the curtains were let down, the cargo compartment was pitch black inside.
Everyone climbed up one by one. When Chang Ning climbed into the compartment, he found it was already packed full.
“Whoa, there are really a lot of people!”
Chang Ning was a bit stunned.
A soldier sitting on the outermost edge picked up the conversation: “Basically, seed players from reconnaissance units across the entire military region have been sent. How could there not be a lot of people?”
Chang Ning thought what the buddy said made sense. He threw his backpack on the ground, sat on it nearby, held his rifle, leaned against the compartment wall, and planned to rest a bit.
The truck suddenly lurched into motion with a bang.
Not everyone was as calm as Chang Ning. Without warning, when the truck suddenly started, the unprepared soldiers immediately tumbled all over.
A capital accent shouted in the compartment: “Fuck! The show of force has already started!”
Xiao Zhuang, sitting right next to him, heard it and turned back excitedly: “Squad Leader, you’re from the capital?”
Perhaps feeling a bit hot, the sergeant took off his steel helmet: “Yeah! I’m Qiang Zi, from 586 Regiment Reconnaissance Company.
What about you? From what you said, you’re from the capital too?”
“Squad Leader, I’m Xiao Zhuang, from Great Merit Regiment Night Tiger Reconnaissance Company.
I go to school in the capital!”
Qiang Zi laughed: “Yo, a student soldier, huh? How come you’re just a private?”
Xiao Zhuang said discontentedly: “What’s wrong with being a private? You became a sergeant before coming, and you’re saying that about me!”
Xiao Zhuang’s words made the others in the compartment burst into laughter. Everyone thought this private was interesting.
Actually, Xiao Zhuang had misunderstood Qiang Zi. Those who could participate in special forces selection were basically non-commissioned officers or officers. Here, privates and corporals were as rare as national treasures.
So seeing Xiao Zhuang’s military rank was private, he was just surprised, not looking down on privates.
“You’ve got quite the soldier temper!”
Qiang Zi didn’t mind Xiao Zhuang talking back to him. They would all be in the same boat from now on, so why make relations stiff?
Those who successfully transferred to non-commissioned officer in the military were all shrewd.
“If you were in my squad…”
Before Qiang Zi could finish, Xiao Zhuang interrupted: “I wouldn’t go to your squad even in my next life!”
He had been in a good mood meeting a fellow townsman, but this guy looked down on him for being a private.
So Xiao Zhuang genuinely disliked Qiang Zi now. When he didn’t like someone, he tended to act foolishly, and his words naturally offended people.
The veterans saw there was a good show and laughed heartily.
Qiang Zi’s smile disappeared, and he narrowed his eyes, staring at Xiao Zhuang.
Damn, he was joking, but this rookie made him lose face. How could he tolerate that?
With Xiao Zhuang making such a commotion, Chang Ning had noticed long ago. He just hadn’t expected the kid to offend someone without thinking.
“That squad leader, he’s from my company. As you saw, he’s just a rookie and doesn’t know better. I apologize to you on his behalf.”
To prevent the situation from escalating, Chang Ning had to step in to smooth things over. Xiao Zhuang was indeed at fault first, and if pursued, there would be punishment.
“I’m his squad leader. Sorry about that. Please be understanding.”
Lao Pao also spoke up to apologize for Xiao Zhuang.
The person involved, Xiao Zhuang, calmed down and realized he had done wrong. But at 17 years old, he was thin-skinned and embarrassed to speak, so he stayed silent like an ostrich.
“Alright, with so many of you smoothing things over for him, I’ll certainly be understanding!”
Qiang Zi saw there were many of them and knew starting a conflict would put him at a disadvantage, so he didn’t make a fuss.
Though the matter was over, the grudge was formed.
“If everyone’s alright, I advise you to rest while there’s time. Later, sleeping will be a luxury.”
To avoid trouble and to rest well himself, Chang Ning kindly reminded everyone.
As for whether they listened, that was up to them. He had reminded them anyway, as long as they didn’t disturb him.
In the dim environment and bumpy mountain road, Chang Ning soon felt sleepy. He didn’t force himself to stay awake; there wouldn’t be a chance for a good sleep in the next seven days.
With no more spectacle to watch, the compartment finally quieted down.
The convoy of five trucks was driving on the highway.
Because it was a mountain road, the road conditions were very poor. The trucks didn’t slow down either; regardless of pits ahead, the driver just floored the accelerator and went over them.
The scouts in the compartment were jolted dizzy. Chang Ning had just fallen asleep when this sudden violent bumping woke him up.
A nameless fire built up in his heart, very uncomfortable.
He hunched over and moved to the innermost part, banging hard on the compartment wall: “Can you slow down? In a hurry to reincarnate?”
The driver didn’t argue with Chang Ning. His response was to make the truck even bumpier, which immediately deflated Chang Ning.
But that didn’t stop Chang Ning from cursing loudly along with the soldiers in the compartment.
The driver was also a veteran. He was responsible for transporting new recruits to Wolf Fang every year. He had long grown used to it and treated even the loudest cursing as farting!
It had to be said that Gao Zhong Dui was very calculating, not giving people like Chang Ning, who knew the rules of the game, any chance to exploit.
With all the jolting along the way, it would be strange if anyone could rest well. Not only couldn’t they rest, they became even more fatigued, both mentally and physically.
On the mountaintop, Gao Zhong Dui stood on the Warrior Vehicle compartment, observing the team transporting the rookies with binoculars. As chief instructor, he had to control the overall situation.
At this moment, a voice came through the earpiece: “Wild Wolf, the rookies have reached the designated area. Can we start the show of force?
Over.”
Clearly, having the transport convoy deliberately take the rugged mountain road wasn’t the show of force, but just a pre-meal snack. The real main course was being served now.
“Then let’s begin.”
Gao Zhong Dui’s cold, chiseled face showed no expression at all. Even if he had a dogtail grass in his mouth right now, it wouldn’t change his aura.
As soon as he spoke, the roar of a landmine explosion echoed through the valley. Pre-set explosive charges detonated beside the truck wheels.
These were all pre-prepared training mines. Apart from being loud and having some added material, they couldn’t cause injury or death—very safe.
The sudden change left the soldiers without any time to prepare mentally. Everyone was somewhat panicked and flustered.
They clumsily grabbed the handles on the compartment edges, exclaiming in shock. At first, Chang Ning was no different from the others; even his scream once drowned out the rest.
Later, he calmed down. This was the selection training camp—could there really be casualties?
Thinking of this, he barely calmed down, shouldered his backpack, held his gun, and shouted loudly: “Hold onto your weapons! Get off the truck quickly!”
With that, Chang Ning grabbed Xi Wa, who was sprawled nearby, and jumped off together.
