Chapter 106: Burn To Death? Then I’ll Make It Happen For You!
The old Daoist priest hopped around the altar table twice, stopped facing Lin Xin, took a sip of the liquid from the bowl, opened his mouth to spit out a ball of flame, and lit the talisman on the sword tip. This sight made the He Clan Leader’s eyes light up, while the villagers crowded at her doorstep let out a gasp of amazement.
Lin Xin smiled slightly, her right fingers moved lightly, and a water arrow shot out from the main hall. When it reached the old Daoist priest, it split into two streams; one extinguished the talisman, while the other precisely shot into the old Daoist priest’s mouth, not only putting out the flame in his mouth but also making him cough nonstop.
“Master!” The little Daoist priests, who had been smug, were dumbfounded. They had followed their master around these ten miles of villages, watching him conquer all the villagers with this trick without ever failing, so now they had no idea what to do next.
“Cough cough cough,” the old Daoist priest had kerosene in his mouth, but Lin Xin’s water arrow splashed it, and he swallowed a lot. The taste nauseated him badly, and it choked him so much he couldn’t speak, left only with heart-wrenching coughs.
“Haha! And he has the nerve to boast about taking you in. I’ve really seen it all.” Gao Yong was always the one to liven up the atmosphere.
The old Daoist priest, who had finally caught his breath, heard this and choked again, coughing once more.
“I say, you little Daoist priests, your master is coughing like he’s about to run out of breath, and you’re just watching without going up to pat his back or anything? What’s the point of having you around!”
“Master, are you okay!” Stirred by Gao Yong’s words, the little Daoist priests snapped out of it and rushed over in a swarm, patting the old Daoist priest’s back clumsily, nearly patting him to death on the spot.
“Whoa, are these really master and disciples? Doesn’t look like it to me.” Chu Yu chimed in.
Cui Shi glared at Lin Nan with dead fish eyes. “If you ever treat me like that, kid, I’ll give you a laxative to make you shit for three days and nights until you can’t get up.”
Lin Nan had been a bit scared at first by the scene, but Big Brother Mo had told him he was the man of the house and had to protect his older sister, so he couldn’t be afraid of everything. That’s why he had stayed behind his sister without rushing into her arms like before.
But all his emotions vanished without a trace at Cui Shi’s words. He looked straight at Cui Shi and said, “Master, I don’t have that much strength, and besides, your body is much tougher than that old Daoist priest’s.”
Cui Shi: “······”
Lin Xin: “······”
Mo Ziyuan & Gao Yong & Chu Yu & Zhou Qi: “······”
Eye contact confirmed—this really is master and disciples.
“O-okay, stop patting. If you pat any more, Master is going to die.” The old Daoist priest finally broke free from his disciples’ encirclement and said weakly.
“Master, are you okay! What do we do next?” A little Daoist priest sneaked a glance at Lin Xin and asked softly.
“What do we do? Hmph! She dared to ruin my ritual and damage my reputation. I’ll make her pay!” The old Daoist priest had completely forgotten his initial thoughts upon seeing Mo Ziyuan and the others; his mind was now filled with the embarrassing scene just now, and he said viciously.
“But Master, can you… can you do it?” The little Daoist priest knew full well if his master had real skills, but following him meant good food and drink, plus the admiring gazes of the villagers, so he had never said anything.
But today, seeing Lin Xin make his master eat a big loss in one move, he couldn’t help starting to have doubts in his heart, feeling like his master was in trouble.
“Smack,” the little disciple got a palm slap on the face from the old Daoist priest. “Say that again and get the hell out!”
The little Daoist priest covered his face and didn’t dare speak.
The old Daoist priest gave Lin Xin a venomous glare, then looked at the main hall behind her. An idea struck him, and he found the He Clan Leader, who was shrinking to the side, no longer as confident as when they arrived.
“M-Master, what’s wrong?” the He Clan Leader asked very quietly.
“This monster isn’t very powerful, but she has already communicated with the ghost in the house. This Daoist is temporarily no match for them. To completely resolve this, someone must make a sacrifice.” The old Daoist priest said with a grim face.
“Sacrifice?” The He Clan Leader’s lips trembled. He had only heard of Daoist priests performing rituals to subdue demons, never of rituals requiring people to die.
“That’s right. The only way now is with blazing flames to eliminate the monster’s essence. She has already gained power; if we don’t act now, your whole village will sooner or later face disaster. You must make a decision quickly.”
“What?” The He Clan Leader felt like the sky was falling. He understood the old Daoist priest’s meaning—they wanted to burn Lin Xin to death!
He sneaked a glance at the people around Lin Xin and didn’t dare agree. He knew clearly that if he repeated the old Daoist priest’s words, he would be the first to die.
“This Daoist doing this already goes against heaven’s harmony, and I don’t know what backlash I’ll suffer. If you’re unwilling, pretend this Daoist never said it.” The old Daoist priest put on airs, putting the He Clan Leader on the spot.
Their conversation didn’t escape Lin Xin’s ears at all. When she heard the old Daoist priest wanted to burn her to death, her aura sharpened instantly. Mo Ziyuan noticed first and quickly held her hand, looking over questioningly: “What’s wrong?”
“He wants to burn me to death, saying only fire can drive away the monster in my body.” Lin Xin said without hiding anything.
“He deserves to die!” Mo Ziyuan had long despised Daoist priests because the old emperor believed the so-called national advisor and indulged in pills, neglecting court affairs. Hearing today they wanted to burn Lin Xin, his anger couldn’t subside, and he immediately wanted to draw his sword.
“No need, I have my own way to deal with him.” Lin Xin gripped his wrist in return, her voice carrying a reassuring tone. “I’ll show you my real skills.”
Mo Ziyuan’s anger was soothed by her just like that. After taking two deep breaths, he looked at her and nodded: “Okay!”
“Cover Nan Nan and Tao Tao’s eyes. What comes next isn’t suitable for them to see.”
Lin Xin smiled at him, then turned to look at the old Daoist priest talking to the He Clan Leader, a cold glint flashing in her eyes. Burn me to death? Then I’ll grant you that!
Her right fingertip drew a small circle lightly, then her middle finger flicked, sending the invisible circle flying out to land squarely on the old Daoist priest’s head.
Under everyone’s gaze, the old Daoist priest’s body suddenly began to shrivel up, his skin color gradually darkening. He seemed to endure great pain, clutching his chest and hunching over, then fell to the ground and began writhing in agony.
No matter how he twisted, the moisture in his body kept being drained until all his skin and flesh turned into brown dried meat clinging to his bones.
His mouth gaped wide, but he couldn’t make a sound, and finally even the struggling stopped.
This scene not only terrified the villagers and the three clan leaders, but even the little Daoist priests turned pale and hid far away, not daring to approach their master.
