Chapter 111: You Hit My Dad, I’ll Beat You To Death!
He had just eaten a few bites when crying and wailing sounds rang out from outside the door again, along with pleading voices and Lin Feng’s furious scolding. Then the gate was pounded on once more.
Mo Ziyuan’s face darkened. He threw down his chopsticks and was about to head outside when Lin Xin grabbed him. He didn’t dare struggle too hard, tugged a couple times without breaking free, then turned back to look at her inquiringly.
“I’ll go!” Lin Xin’s tone was extremely calm, and her expression was the same. She even smiled at everyone. However, even the thickest-nerved Gao Yong could tell she was very angry, even on the verge of exploding. He swallowed and said, “Miss Lin, let’s go together! I’ll back you up, so those people won’t bully you.”
“No need. You all stay here. If everyone goes, I won’t be able to act freely.” After Lin Xin finished speaking, she stepped out of the kitchen.
After she left, Gao Yong dramatically patted his chest. “My goodness, is Miss Lin this scary when she’s angry? I almost thought the one standing next to me was my father just now!”
Chu Yu also chimed in with lingering fear. “Exactly, that sense of oppression is too strong. To be honest, without a hundred or eighty human lives on one’s hands, you absolutely couldn’t cultivate that kind of killing intent.”
As soon as he said this, the room fell into a strange silence. Then everyone uniformly turned their gazes to Mo Ziyuan.
“What are you looking at me for?” Mo Ziyuan had seen Lin Xin slaughter wildly at the Grand Tutor’s Mansion, so he wasn’t too surprised. He calmly picked up a piece of chicken wings and took a bite.
“Come on, what’s Miss Lin’s background? Tell us all!”
“Ask Old Cui! He knew her first.” Mo Ziyuan mumbled unclearly with chicken wings in his mouth.
“Ask me?” Old Cui pointed at his own nose tip. “I just bought a ginseng from her. As for anything else, I don’t know. Don’t ask me!”
“Who cares what her background is? As long as she hasn’t harmed you all, that’s fine. Can’t she have a little secret?” Meng Yichen suddenly interjected.
“Uh… that’s true,” Gao Yong shoveled a mouthful of rice into his mouth. “I’m just curious. Of course I know Miss Lin is a good person!”
“Right, I didn’t mean anything else.” Chu Yu quickly pretended to focus on eating too.
Mo Ziyuan gave Meng Yichen a deep look, then lowered his head to eat while thinking about who knows what.
Lin Xin opened the courtyard gate and saw several people sitting on the snowy ground outside. Their clothes were covered in snow and mud, so their original colors couldn’t be made out. The one in charge should be the old madam sitting at the very front, with a pair of triangular eyes that looked troublesome. Beside her was a couple, plus one man and three women—four children.
This group of seven was crying and wailing that their house had collapsed and they had nowhere to live, and so on. Lin Feng stood to the side, furiously telling them to get up quickly and not block the way—Lin Xin’s home wouldn’t house them.
Lin Xin just quietly stood at the doorway watching them.
“Xin Yatou, please have mercy and let us stay at your home for a few days! Otherwise, in this cold weather, we’ll freeze to death. Even just for the sake of living in the same village, you can’t just stand by and let us die! We’re begging you!” Seeing her not speak, the old madam in charge wiped the tears and snot from her face onto her pants, then glared at her with her triangular eyes.
Lin Xin disgustedly stepped back and drawled, “Back when I couldn’t get by, you didn’t say to lend me a hand. You even told me to go die early and aim for a good reincarnation. Today, I’ll give those exact words back to you unchanged. If you don’t want to die, hurry and think of another way while it’s still light out. Otherwise, once it gets dark, it’ll really be troublesome.”
“Xin Yatou, this old woman is begging you. Take us in for a few days! We really have no other options. Our house collapsed and buried us. My old man is about done for too. If we don’t have a place to stay, my little grandson definitely won’t make it. Can you really bear to watch us freeze and starve to death?”
Lin Xin nodded and said very seriously, “I can bear it! Whether you live or die is none of my business.”
“Lin Xin, how can you be so heartless! Do you really have to watch our whole family die? How can you be so vicious! Lin Duo was right—you have a black heart.” A young lady in a cotton-padded jacket whose color couldn’t be made out, her face frozen pale, jumped up and pointed at Lin Xin’s nose while cursing.
“Since Lin Duo said it so correctly, she surely won’t refuse to help you! Why not go live at her home? I imagine her heart isn’t black, and she’s not a vicious person.” Lin Xin was completely unmoved by her shouting and cursing, and suggested with a smile.
“Lin Duo’s house is cramped and rundown—we’re not going. Your newly built house is the one we should live in. Hurry and open the door for us, or we’ll smash it ourselves. Then we won’t owe you any favors.” A little boy with a trail of snot under his nose shouted loudly. Given his age, he definitely couldn’t say things like ‘owing favors’—he must have heard it from the adults.
Lin Xin’s face completely cooled. She stared straight at the boy and asked, “What did you just say? You’re going to smash my home’s gate?”
Stared at by her gaze, the boy felt all the hairs on his body stand up. He involuntarily peed himself. Both scared and embarrassed, he burst into loud wails.
“You stinking girl, how dare you scare my son! I’ll beat you to death!” The boy’s father jumped up from the ground, swinging his dirty black hand toward Lin Xin.
Lin Xin’s eyes narrowed slightly. She raised her knee, twisted her hip, lifted her leg, and snapped it out—a series of movements in one smooth motion. One kick landed on the man’s butt, sending him flying. After landing, he still slid across the snow for a stretch until he crashed into a big tree stump behind him and stopped. He couldn’t even crawl up.
“Ah~ Husband, are you okay?” The little boy’s mother saw this and hurriedly rushed over to check on her man.
“Son~ Son, how are you?!” The old madam wasn’t willing to show weakness and joined the chorus crying for her son.
“Hmph! Bad woman, you dared to hit my dad—I’ll beat you to death!” Seeing his dad kicked flying by Lin Xin, the little boy surprisingly stopped crying. He dug up a clump of snowy mud from the ground and threw it at Lin Xin.
Lin Xin returned the favor, kicking the mud back right at the little boy’s chest, smashing him flat on his back to the ground.
“Ah~ Son!” His mother had been happily crying over her man when her peripheral vision caught her son smashed down. She hurriedly let go of the man and rushed toward her son, but tripped over a protruding stone midway and fell right in front of a girl of about ten.
“Mom~” The little girl reached out to help the woman up, but the woman swung her hand and slapped her across the face with a palm. “You useless money loser, didn’t you see your little brother being bullied? Why don’t you hurry and avenge him? You can’t do anything—get lost!”
After cursing, she slapped the girl aside again, crawled over, hugged her son, and cooed over him like he was her heart and soul.
The little girl had probably encountered this situation many times and didn’t say anything. She got up from the ground on her own, shifted to the side a bit, and numbly watched her mother cry while holding her little brother.
