Chapter 74: Serval
Of course, the two didn’t find Silver Wolf, nor did they find the silver-furred little dog.
Unknowingly, the two arrived near Belobog’s landmark building, the Eternal Freeze Monument. What made Meng Huaifeng somewhat regretful was that he didn’t see Pela sister, who appreciated symmetrical beauty.
Pela, as an intelligence officer of the Silvermane Guards, had very little free time to teach the children about the heavy and difficult history of this city of Preservation.
Meng Huaifeng looked around and spotted Serval’s Mechanical Workshop. When it came to gathering information, how could passersby know as much as Serval?
Meng Huaifeng knew Cocolia was the final BOSS, but he had no proof, no evidence.
The Train Crew would believe him, but the local residents absolutely would not. Taking action directly against Cocolia would definitely cause tremendous Turmoil.
Possible power seizures, pursuits by the Silvermane Guards, pressure from withdrawing troops from the defensive lines, casualty counts from various possible situations—none of it would be less than the number of people who could be saved by resolving the crisis a bit earlier.
In that case, it would be putting the cart before the horse.
The best approach was still to find evidence, convince some people—especially Bronya—and then take down Cocolia, letting Bronya immediately take control of the situation to prevent Turmoil.
With a plan in mind, Meng Huaifeng pushed open the door of the Mechanical Workshop and entered.
“Guest, is there anything you need me to repair?” A slightly husky big-sister voice rang out.
Meng Huaifeng looked toward the counter. A beautiful big sister with brown hair and a few strands of purple highlights was tinkering with a mechanical instrument, glancing at them casually.
“Serval, hello. I am Meng Huaifeng, and this is my companion Star. We’re not here to repair anything.” Meng Huaifeng politely introduced himself.
“Oh, you know my name? Not here for repairs, so are you my fans? I don’t think I’ve seen you before. With such striking appearances, I’d definitely remember if I had.” Serval placed the instrument on the counter, her expression turning serious.
“Could we find a quiet place to talk in detail?” Meng Huaifeng said solemnly.
“What important matter requires a quiet place? What, want to confess to sister?” Serval teased.
“Stellar Core.” Meng Huaifeng got straight to the point.
Serval’s expression instantly turned grave. She came out from behind the counter, first locking the front door tight, then pulling down thick curtains, and led the two into a Compartment.
“Speak. Where did you learn about this thing?” Serval’s gaze sharpened, an electric guitar right at her side.
“Before explaining, first hear about our Origin.” Meng Huaifeng said.
“You come from the Underground?” Serval raised an eyebrow.
“No, we come from Outer Space. We are Nameless from the Stellar Train. The path of Pioneer was blocked here. According to our investigation, it’s confirmed to be caused by the Stellar Core, which is very likely the culprit behind your planet’s Cold Wave and Realm Splitting. Our purpose here is to find it and Seal it.” Meng Huaifeng said.
“Wait, that’s a lot of information. Please explain in detail, like what the Stellar Train and Nameless are.” Countless pieces of information in Serval’s mind cross-verified with the hints in Meng Huaifeng’s words, but some things, isolated from the world for hundreds of years, she truly couldn’t understand without concepts or explanations.
Meng Huaifeng gave Serval a detailed introduction to the origins of the Stellar Train and the great achievements of some Nameless.
“So, you’re heroes and knight-errants traveling the Universe acting as knight-errants without expecting reward?” Compared to the extremely suspicious Cocolia, the free-spirited Serval was willing to believe there really was such a group in the world.
Meng Huaifeng and Star nodded together.
“Empty words without proof. If you want me to believe you, show evidence. How do I know this isn’t Lies you made up?” Serval said gravely. Her heart was beating fast. If what they said was true, then Belobog had a chance to defeat the Cold Wave.
Even if that chance was slim, the people of Belobog, who had seen no Hope for so long, would be willing to give everything to fight for a ray of bright Future!
Rather than gradually being eroded by Realm Splitting in despair and buried by the Cold Wave.
“Star, give her your mobile phone.” Meng Huaifeng said to Star.
“Why not yours? Do you have some unspeakable secret on your mobile phone?” Star gossiped, while taking out her mobile phone and handing it to Serval.
“Where would I get a mobile phone? I only have my Martial Spirit.” Meng Huaifeng gave Star a slight eye-roll, then said to Serval, “I’ve heard you used to be a Technology personnel, so you should understand that with the Technology you have now, you couldn’t manufacture this kind of mobile phone. You can go online to check news from the Universe, search for Nameless, Stellar Core, and such information. That should prove I’m telling the truth.”
He didn’t know if the original mobile phone on Jarilo-VI would be affected by the Stellar Core and unable to connect to the Network of a Thousand Stars, but the one enhanced by Meng Huaifeng’s mark could connect.
“Oh, right, I forgot.” Star scratched her head.
Serval first examined the mobile phone’s exterior, then opened it to check the specs, and based on the user experience, confirmed that the Technology contained in this mobile phone was beyond what Belobog could achieve.
Then she began searching online for the various doubts she had accumulated during her time as a researcher, and found answers to all of them!
In the current Belobog, if Serval dared to claim her Technology level was second, no one would dare claim first.
Being able to answer her doubts, and in a way that felt right to her—this was definitely not something a local from Belobog could do.
Serval didn’t rush to return the mobile phone, but searched again for information on Stellar Core and Nameless.
Meng Huaifeng wasn’t in a hurry, quietly waiting for Serval to finish verifying.
Star, whose mobile phone had been confiscated, was bored and picked up a broken piece of Equipment from the Corner to tinker with.
After a long while, Serval finally let out a long breath and put down the mobile phone.
“I believe what you said. Come with me. I’ll take you to see Cocolia. If anyone is most likely to know where the Stellar Core is, it can only be her. I’ll do my utmost to help convince her.” Serval stood up and opened the door to leave.
“Wait!” Meng Huaifeng grabbed her: “If we wanted to see your Supreme Guardian, we would’ve revealed our identities long ago.”
“What, you’re worried she won’t believe? Don’t worry, she will. Belobog’s situation is worsening day by day. We’d grasp any shred of Hope tightly.” Serval never doubted the Belief and Unity of Belobog’s people.
“No, we suspect she’s already in Collusion with the Stellar Core.” Meng Huaifeng said gravely: “If you read carefully enough just now, you’d know some Stellar Cores have the Power to bewitch minds, especially the one on your planet, which can also create Memory Shadows, those Realm Splitting Creatures.”
“Impossible!” Serval’s face changed drastically: “She is Belobog’s Supreme Guardian, a loyal follower of the Amber Lord, with protecting Belobog as her Belief. How could she betray Belobog and collude with the Stellar Core, the source of disaster!”
