Chapter 200: Tears Of The Era
The largest office on this floor was initially used by Fan Ren, but later transferred to Jin Qiaoying, who was appointed general manager, to continue using, while he moved to another office nearby.
This was the place Zeng Yingying was coming to clock in today.
Before getting married, she had started taking care of Fan Ren’s daily life here, and it was also here that their relationship began.
Standing on the sofa that seemed unchanged in his memory, he smoked sullenly.
Listening to the continuous happy conversation of the two women by his ear, he couldn’t help but gain new cognition about his wife.
However, during the conversation, he also learned that Xu Min had been here for nearly thirty years, and during these thirty years, the building could remain as it was back then, all due to her merit.
“Husband, you sit alone for a while, I’ll go for a walk with Little Min?”
As if to avoid Fan Ren’s embarrassment, Zeng Yingying thoughtfully instructed, then pulled Xu Min and walked out, as if to talk about some private topic between girlfriends.
‘Hoo~~~’
With the office door closed, Fan Ren let out a heavy breath, and his whole body finally felt more comfortable.
It wasn’t that he still had lingering feelings for this first love; more than sixty years had passed, Xu Min had long been forgotten by him completely, and if not for today’s encounter, he wouldn’t even know if he would ever think of her again in this lifetime.
It was really that the relationship between him, Zeng Yingying, and Xu Min was somewhat awkward.
This was also why Zeng Yingying, although girlfriends with Xu Min and frequently contacted privately in the early years without hibernation, had basically never mentioned her in front of Fan Ren.
After finishing one cigarette, Fan Ren thought of his destitute life during university decades ago and couldn’t help recalling the occasional meals with Xu Min.
In his view back then, that was probably dating.
But recalling now, he hadn’t even held Xu Min’s hand, let alone any further development between the two.
Smiling and shaking his head, Fan Ren extinguished the cigarette butt in the brand-new ashtray, and at the foot of the desk, there was the small handbag left by Xu Min.
Then, as if still not satisfied, he couldn’t resist lighting another one.
Smoking two in a row was something that had never happened to him before.
“Boss, your heart rate was a bit fast just now.”
“Mm, I knew Xu Min from university.”
“No wonder, meeting an old classmate, of course your heart would race, after all, it’s been over sixty years.”
“Heh heh, she was my first love.”
“Holy shit!”
A’dai was shocked; at this moment, he finally realized that the surprised expressions of the couple in the elevator earlier weren’t from the joy of meeting an old classmate soon, but from this layer of complex relationship.
Outside, at the balcony at the end of the corridor.
“Oh my god, you still look about the same as in university, so young, quick, tell me if Xinghai has some high technology that only insiders can use.
Also, couldn’t contact you for these decades, what happened?”
Without Fan Ren present, the two finally showed a bit of a girlfriends’ demeanor.
While asking, Xu Min’s face showed a trace of lingering fear; back then when she couldn’t contact Zeng Yingying, she thought something had happened to her.
“Don’t mention it, Fan Ren tricked me into the hibernation pod and froze me; I was only thawed two years ago.”
Zeng Yingying helplessly spread her hands, but the affection hard to conceal at the bottom of her eyes was seen through by Xu Min.
“What about you? Married?”
Zeng Yingying, experienced, could tell at a glance from Xu Min’s speech and demeanor that she didn’t seem like a married state, so she asked softly.
Being asked this, Xu Min’s face showed some embarrassment, then she sighed and shook her head: “Dated a few, pretty boring, then broke up.”
“Broke up?”
No wonder Zeng Yingying was surprised; their generation, although having undergone two anti-aging treatments, had their lifespan extended to 150 years.
Although they didn’t look much aged on the surface now, no matter what, they were already over seventy years old.
And Xu Min wasn’t like her; after all, she had been in the hibernation pod for decades, so her actual age was just under 40.
Xu Min now was truly a woman over 70 years old.
And her conditions weren’t bad either.
Employees working at Xinghai truly had no poor people.
Xu Min shook her head awkwardly, clearly not wanting to talk about this topic. She changed the subject: “That countdown our company announced, is it real? Xinghai is fine now, but outside, people are a bit panicked.”
Hearing this, a trace of worry appeared in Zeng Yingying’s eyes.
“It’s real; Fan Ren has been busy with these things for the past decades, and because he was afraid he’d be too busy to take care of me, he tricked me into hibernation. Oh right, what about Liu Xinyue? Haven’t heard from her in a long time.”
“A long time? You slept for decades, of course it’s long.”
Xu Min’s tone unconsciously had a hint of sourness, then she held her head: “Her? These years she’s been muddling through, got married and divorced, looked down on this and that, every time she found me she complained, later I got annoyed and argued with her, then no contact.”
Speaking of this, Xu Min couldn’t help thinking of herself and sighed inwardly.
Hadn’t she been the same?
There was another silence between the two, and Zeng Yingying didn’t know how to respond.
In the end, Xu Min was the first to break the silence.
“Then that’s it for now; you two relive the days on Blue Star, I know it’s rare for you to come to the ground now, I won’t disturb you, today let me skip work too, contact when free.”
She controlled the muscles on her cheeks to show an not-so-good-looking smile, her words carrying a joke, yet also like evasion.
After seeing off Xu Min, Zeng Yingying returned to the office.
She saw Fan Ren sitting on his former office chair, feet propped on the desk, body unconsciously turning the chair, eyes slightly closed in a daze.
Zeng Yingying walked up and leaned down to peck Fan Ren’s lips lightly.
“What are you thinking?”
She licked her red lips, eyes smiling as she gazed fixedly at Fan Ren.
“Wasn’t I waiting for you to come take photos and clock in? What did you talk about?” Fan Ren said in surprise, quickly putting his feet down.
Hearing this, Zeng Yingying didn’t answer; she directly straddled Fan Ren’s lap, not caring if the chair could bear the weight of two people.
In this instant, seductive charm filled her eyes, her arms gently around Fan Ren’s neck, her breathing a bit hurried.
Zeng Yingying didn’t directly answer Fan Ren’s question.
She looked into Fan Ren’s eyes, her white teeth lightly biting her red lip.
Old husband and wife, Fan Ren knew what this meant; since her thawing two years ago, this had happened many times.
“Locked?”
Fan Ren glanced at the closed door and nodded his mouth.
Zeng Yingying’s pretty face flashed with blush, nodded slightly, then exclaimed as she was picked up by Fan Ren who stood up, slowly placed on the desk.
Outside the office door, Xu Min who returned because she forgot to take her bag, upon approaching the door her small mouth opened in shock, then quickly covered her mouth with both hands.
No one knew how long she stayed at the door.
If not for the two drops of tears on the floor spaced apart and level with her eye sockets, no one would discover someone had been here.
