Chapter 33: Many Hands Gather Firewood
As Zeng Yingying’s seemingly indifferent words fell, the two sisters who were eating happily over there couldn’t help but exchange a glance.
“You’re doing so well, with such a high salary every month that you can’t even spend it all.”
Hearing this, Zeng Yingying didn’t refute it. She had learned by chance during a previous casual chat that Liu Xinyue had applied for a job at Xinghai before her, so who could she blame for not cherishing the opportunity.
Xu Min’s movements slowed down. Zeng Yingying’s words obviously moved her a bit.
It was really that life had been too tough lately.
In their sales line of work, they had to wear cosmetics every day, which was a considerable expense just on that, and that salary wasn’t nearly enough to cover it.
For this reason, she had asked her family for money several times.
Looking at Xu Min’s expression in front of her, Zeng Yingying let out an almost imperceptible sigh, thought for a moment, and then said: “By the way, those cosmetics and such in my room, you two help me use them up, otherwise they’re about to expire.”
As she spoke, a troubled look appeared on her face as if unintentionally.
Having worked in the company’s Logistics for over half a year, Zeng Yingying’s ability to read people had improved significantly.
She could see Xu Min’s difficulties.
Sure enough, upon hearing this, Xu Min’s watery eyes visibly lit up with excitement.
“Thanks, Yingying. I’ve been coveting that set of cosmetics of yours for a long time.”
“No problem, just use them. I can’t finish them by myself. And those bags that I don’t use much, Xinyue, if you like them, just take them and use them, no need to be polite.”
She treated both fairly, and her words made the two women in front of her chatter happily and excitedly.
“Hey, you’re the one who’s got it good. You’re busy, sure, but the salary is high. Unlike us over there—we bought those Xinghai charging piles, but because of infringement, they’ve been sealed up and we can’t use them for this period, and now there are far fewer customers buying cars.”
Xu Min complained while eating. As soon as her words fell, Zeng Yingying froze.
“Ah? Xinghai Technology, right? I remember that company. I went for an interview there after graduation. See, what did I say? They even steal others’ patents for the products they sell. Good thing I was smart and didn’t go work there, otherwise I probably wouldn’t even be getting paid now.”
Liu Xinyue thought for a moment and recalled the scene when she went for an interview at Xinghai—it was just like a shell company—and she joined in the complaining.
“Yingying? What’s wrong with you?”
Noticing Zeng Yingying’s unusual reaction, Xu Min curiously asked.
“You mean Xinghai? Xinghai Technology, right?”
“Ah, yes. What’s up?”
Hearing this, Zeng Yingying didn’t reply. She immediately started frantically searching through her mobile phone.
“Oh no, such a big thing and I didn’t know about it.”
As she spoke, she found her mobile phone and subconsciously prepared to call Fan Ren.
“I’ll go make a phone call. You two eat first.”
She didn’t care about her own gaffe, hurriedly said that and ran to the room, slamming the door shut with a ‘bang’.
“What’s up with her? Such a big reaction?”
“Does Xinghai Technology have some relationship with Yingying?”
“Don’t tell me someone close to her is a senior executive there.”
Liu Xinyue winked mischievously. She knew that Fan Ren had previously worked there too.
This drew an annoyed response from Xu Min: “What nonsense are you talking? Don’t guess randomly. We’ll ask her when she comes out.”
In the room, Fan Ren laughed and comforted Zeng Yingying over the phone, and straightforwardly told her about the company’s current situation, but not to worry—the new product would launch in a few days.
He told Zeng Yingying to rest easy on holiday, because once the new product launched, the company couldn’t do without this housekeeper.
After hanging up, Zeng Yingying felt relieved, but still a bit uneasy. She dazedly went back outside.
At this point, none of them had the appetite to finish dinner.
“Yingying, why did you get so worked up when you heard about Xinghai Technology?”
Xu Min wasn’t bothered and asked directly.
Liu Xinyue’s lips moved as if she wanted to say something but held back. From her expression, it was clear it wasn’t anything good.
Zeng Yingying took in both their expressions and suddenly felt a surge of anger well up inside.
“I’m working at Xinghai, and now I’m the company’s Logistics Supervisor. You two eat. I’m going to the company.”
She couldn’t let it go, so she went back to her room to pack a bit lightly. After thinking, she grabbed a change of clothes and headed out.
“See, what did I say? There must be something she won’t tell us. Running off to the company in the middle of the night.”
Liu Xinyue mischievously watched the figure disappearing at the door and winked at Xu Min over there.
Xu Min didn’t refute, just rolled her eyes at her best friend and continued eating. She knew what Liu Xinyue meant.
But her mind wasn’t on that now, and she didn’t think Fan Ren, who had graduated just a few months ago, had the ability to take care of Zeng Yingying. Just look at those expensive bags and cosmetics in the room.
As soon as Zeng Yingying returned to the company, she saw lights on in several floors of the building, and she immediately felt tense.
Those floors were all the Research and Development Department. She knew these engineers, just like her, had been given a week’s holiday by the company.
But now they were all back working overtime, which clearly meant the company’s situation wasn’t as relaxed as Fan Ren had described.
With a heavy heart, she went upstairs and headed straight to Fan Ren’s office.
Fan Ren’s office door wasn’t locked. Zeng Yingying tiptoed to the outer room and heard complaining voices from inside.
“Boss Fan, why didn’t you tell us earlier you had such an awesome product? You made me worry for nothing. I was all ready to fight them.”
“A’dai, we’re cultured people. Why are you always thinking about using fists? Use your brain! Use your brain!”
Hearing Fan Ren in the inner room still joking around, Zeng Yingying’s suspended heart finally settled.
She pushed the door open and entered.
“Sister Zeng!”
“Didn’t I tell you to rest at home? What’s this about showing up in the middle of the night?”
Fan Ren looked helplessly at the person at the door, shook his head, then pointed to a table full of takeout: “Eaten? If not, join us.”
Zeng Yingying had only eaten a couple of bites at home earlier. Now seeing the two eating happily, she didn’t feel embarrassed and grabbed some utensils to sit down at the table.
She ignored Fan Ren’s grumbling and quietly cleaned up the scattered mess on the floor after finishing her meal.
“Well, Boss Fan, I’m gonna head out first.”
Fan Ren waved at the engineer they called A’dai, signaling him to get lost quickly.
This kid, just looking at his big bald head pissed him off.
He had clearly shaved his head because his hair was growing too long and annoying, but this kid insisted it was to show determination and followed Fan Ren’s example by shaving his own head bald.
Fan Ren got up and sat back at his desk, lighting a post-meal cigarette.
His gaze fell back on the monitor, and his thoughts quickly immersed in the design drawings.
Today, with the addition of that group of young engineers from outside, many minor tasks didn’t need his personal attention—he just delegated them.
With over half a year of cooperative experience in Research and Development with them, Fan Ren used these young engineers very handily.
So he didn’t reject their request today to work overtime and help the company through the crisis.
Once they finished the last bit of work tonight, tomorrow they could go back to rest. He just needed to keep one assistant to go with him to the factory to complete the remaining assembly work.
In the outer room, Zeng Yingying dazedly slipped back into the state from last week during the new factory Research and Development period, subconsciously arranging drinks and such trivial matters for the Research and Development Department’s engineers.
The entire Research and Development Department at Xinghai was brightly lit and didn’t go dark even late into the night.
