Chapter 34: I care about you more than you do
“That night, many girls called me, I know you were joking with me.”
When Lu Ziyi heard Ye Chuxiao say she liked him on the phone, he was confused. He knew she was secretly in love with her Brother Chusheng.
At the time of the call, he didn’t take such a confession to heart.
Until that evening, when he saw Ye Chuxiao sitting in his usual spot in the library, sharpening a pencil for him, that scene stirred an unusual feeling in his heart.
That night, he stood not too far away, holding the book he wanted to borrow, watching the quiet girl.
The white light from above shone on her face, and he could clearly see her serious expression. Upon closer inspection, her face was fair and tender pink, as pure as a child’s.
Her movements as she sharpened the pencil were skillful, as if each stroke was a piece of artistic creation, like carving.
The scene was quiet, yet so beautiful.
It reminded him of… his mother!
When he was very young, he watched his mother sharpen pencils for his father with such seriousness.
His mother was a martial artist, a martial arts instructor for film and television crews, and usually cheerful and uninhibited.
Yet, when she sharpened a pencil for her husband, her hand, accustomed to holding swords, held the small single-sided blade with exceptional seriousness and meticulousness.
His father’s favorite thing to do was to smile and watch his wife carefully sharpen his pencil, as if appreciating a flowing scene of peaceful years.
And he, from a young age to adulthood, would always watch his father looking at his mother sharpening pencils.
At those times, it was as if there was a world between his parents that no one could disturb; their hearts were only for each other.
This was his first and most devout feeling of love.
He also hoped that one day he would meet a girl who would meticulously, for decades, even for something as small as sharpening a pencil, do it for him.
And so, that night, the image of the quiet girl sitting in the library seat sharpening a pencil for him, was etched in his mind, reaching the softest part of his heart.
He looked forward to an eternal deadline!
Lu Ziyi said it calmly, but Ye Chuxiao stammered, unsure of how to respond.
That night, many girls called Lu Ziyi to confess their feelings. Perhaps they genuinely admired the School Hunk, but she didn’t. Her roommates had told her to do it, and she had lied to Lu Ziyi!
“I’m sorry!” Ye Chuxiao apologized again. “I harassed you, you must think I’m… ridiculous, right?”
“I know you don’t mean it when you say you like me.” Lu Ziyi cupped Ye Chuxiao’s head with his large right hand, her soft hair brushing against his slender fingers, feeling a hand full of gentleness.
“But, I like the pencils you sharpen, and I hope you’ll be my assistant, that’s true!”
Ye Chuxiao sniffled. She saw the sincerity in Lu Ziyi’s eyes.
Lu Ziyi said gently, “Xiaoxiao, liking someone is not a ridiculous thing. Everyone has the right to like or dislike someone, but the other person also has the right to accept or reject that feeling. It’s great when two people love each other, but it’s very sad when the other person doesn’t accept it! However, love is still beautiful, and there will always be the right person waiting for you!”
“Thank you, Senior Student Ziyi, for telling me this!” Ye Chuxiao was grateful that Lu Ziyi didn’t blame her but instead comforted her.
“You’re welcome!” Lu Ziyi suddenly pinched Ye Chuxiao’s reddened little nose.
Ye Chuxiao shivered and said softly, “Senior Student Ziyi, I’m sad right now, and you’re still pinching my nose!”
Lu Ziyi lowered his head, bringing his handsome face close to Ye Chuxiao’s. “Then let Xiaoxiao activate the first pain relief plan and let you pinch me back with all your might!”
